Our 1 to 4th hitters, where 0 out of 12 This was a huge win, especially with the poor offensive display. The bats need to wake up now in order to put a decent streak together and keep gaining ground on the standings. JP needs to get it going, or Jack should give him a couple of days off.

I'm just saying that the offense must step up and pick up the pitching once in a while. When was the last time our bullpen pitched with a 3+ cushion? seems like if our pitching doesn't go 8+, there is no room for mistakes for middle relieving

August 19, 200520 yr Yeah the offense has been nonexistent lately, thank God for the stellar pitching. I think we are gonna need great pitching until our walking wounded get back into the groove. Hopefully that won't take too long.

August 19, 200520 yr You know we could use the excuse that we were facing Jake Peavy tonight, but we weren't facing him on Tuesday night and Brandon Webb is not Jake Peavy other. Its great that this team sits 1 game out of the Wild Card lead and that they are getting the job done any way possible, but sooner or later not scoring runs is going to hurt the Marlins big time. Don't forget that coming up next month we face every single team in our division and the Astros and I'm sorry, but 1 or 2 runs isn't going to cut it against those teams. We are still very much in reach of a playoff spot (either way you want to look at it), but 2 runs is not going to be the Braves or the surging Phillies.

August 19, 200520 yr The Dodgers have been using a set 5-man rotation, never skipping one for an off-day. I found that out the hard way when I moved around my schedule to accomodate Penny's start in DC only to discover he was set to pitch the next day on 5 days rest.
August 19, 200520 yr I agree with Fresh Fish... yes although we faced Jake Peavy, we still need to score more runs.... especially in late inning games. Lets face it... we are not going to get CG SHOs every night... we need to be able to hit with RISP and late in games... It seems lately that when we are loosing in the 7th inning, we have a sense of defeat. In 2003, if we were down in the 7th inning, we were dissapointed if we didnt come back... Dont bash FreshFish for pointing out the obvious... Cause if we are to make it to the playoffs and we have to face the Cards in the first round, you better believe that our pitchers wont pitch shutouts and that us scoring 3 runs is gonna cut it... I am still a firm believer that with our 3 Aces and a healthly line up we can do some serious damage in the playoffs.... The main point is that we need to get hits at key at bats and improve our run scoring in the late innings.
August 19, 200520 yr The team is built around pitching, so the offense isn't gonna be great. They are struggling, but I think the fact you are winning games and gaining ground with the offense struggling is a good sign. The offense is going to wake up, and your pitching isn't going anywhere, because the staff, ESPECIALLY the big 3 and Todd Jones, are clearly on a mission.
August 19, 200520 yr We are winning but I would feel a little bit better if the offense woke up and started scoring more than 2 rpg. We won, that's the bottom line now, but there is no way we'll keep winning these 2-0 games for the rest of the season.
