What can be done

Featured Replies

We should call the local media, and show that we mean business! We should get as much media as we can to help our cause. Let's exploit the situation to get a deal done. Let's show them that Florida is the real home of the Florida Marlins. Let's keep them here. This is a rough situation but we dont got much time to work with so when we protest we must express our frustrations and get as much attention as we can.

I wonder if Jeff and mini-me have ever thought about doing what was done in San Diego. If I recall (and someone correct me if I'm wrong), people contributed money towards Petco Park and their names where engraved in brick and used in the construction of the stadium.

I think any kind of donations would do, but minimum donation of $100 would guarentee you that you would have your name on a piece of mortar.

I'd contribute in a heartbeat.

Form a terrorist group like PETA :D

I think we can get our own terrorist group started right here :shifty

Even if they only got 100,000 people to contribute $100, that is still $10 Million closer than they were previously. Imagine if they could get 1,000,000 people to contribute? :mischief2

Baby steps though..

The Mayor's office is in the Stephen P. Clark Government Center. You can take MetroRail to the Government Center station and be right there. His office is on the third floor I believe. I have been in that building many times and it is not that intimidating, so your protest should always be respectful, loud, and well founded. Media attention is easy to get as the Government Center is one of the media's favorite hangouts.

Maybe we could get Jeff Conine and ex Marlin Spooney on this :lol We could only wish!

I like the idea of the bricks. I wonder if anybody else thought about that?

We need to work together guys.... :thumbup we can do this!

Jeff did make the "I want to take my kids to a baseball game in Miami" statement yesterday on channel 7. I'm sure if we had someway to contact him he'd be willing to help the cause.

Yep.. We just have to find a way to contact him. I am sure he will help *hopes*

Hmm, I'll see if anybody I know can get a hold of him.

Something else I thought of.....anybody ever heard of that show, Three Wishes? I don't know if they have 9 digits worth of money to throw around, but if we all bombard them with requests they have to come down and do something. Maybe the TV cameras in the faces of the organization and the politicians will get them going since this will be national TV.

Great Idea like always :) Yea.. I heard of them before. I was thinking the same thing. Everyone should write to them and tell them what this Marlins team means to them- What do we have to lose?

Here is the site.. http://www.tv.com/three-wishes/show/35323/summary.html

At this point, we have nothing to lose but our baseball team. So everything is an option.

I can take that flyer into photoshop and make it an entire sheet.. We need to put the numbers of goverment and post them all around..

I've never heard of that show. But hey, why not? It wouldn't hurt.

If someone makes the flyer, I'll be more than happy to add it to the campaign page to print out. Try to make it on Acrobat if you know how.

ill email you a pdf of it..

Thanks. Do you have my email address?

There's a website at savethemarlins.com. It's a guy who seems like he really does want to save the team, but it's humorous and would never accomplish anything. Someone should get in touch with him and see if he'd make the site a more serious one with resources and things.

IMO a geocities website won't accomplish anything. We need to go professional. I'll certainly offer my web services (HTML, graphics, etc) and money to purchase a domain name (savethefloridamarlins.com, $8.95 a year at godaddy.com) and a hosting service so we don't have popups.

I agree with you man! Although that geocities site is great we need something MORE powerful!

Ok, let's contact the guy and see if he wants to join us. Thank you for the offer! Go for it! Let me know what you need.

mk7, that's awesome.

I'm going to go on Monday (or maybe tomorrow, are banks open?) and open up a new account at my bank. I'll connect it to paypal, so any and all donations can run through there and we can have a central source of money for the cause. We can purchase flyers and stuff with the money of course, but first and foremost would be that money going to the stadium.
