November 26, 200520 yr The Chicago Tribune's Phil Rogers believes the Marlins will wait until after Johnny Damon signs to trade Juan Pierre. He also says the White Sox have a better chance to get him than the Cubs because GM Jim Hendry won't part with Felix Pie, Matt Murton or Rich Hill. The White Sox no longer have Aaron Rowand to give up to get Pierre, but they have young outfielders they can afford to part with. Nov. 26 - 2:05 pm et Source: Chicago Tribune
November 26, 200520 yr Author Better market after the best center fielder is taken. More competition equals a better deal.
November 26, 200520 yr I read somewhere today that the White Sox aren't interested in Pierre. They have a rookie (Brian Anderson, I think) that they want to play in CF.
November 26, 200520 yr I dont think the Cubs will want JP because of his contract status and the fact that he is slightly overrated to anyone who knows baseball. You like the guy, but his production is not as fantastic as it would seem. That said, we could deal Castillo and get Pie and more. That would start things up, I am sure.
November 26, 200520 yr Let's just keep JP, I really don't think he is on the downside of his career yet, he's also enormously popular with casual fans whose support we need.
November 26, 200520 yr This is just like when the Beckett deal was put on hold....all it means for us is postponing the inevitable.
November 26, 200520 yr This is just like when the Beckett deal was put on hold....all it means for us is postponing the inevitable. this is totally different. that trade was agreed to... who knows what has been said in this trade
November 26, 200520 yr I'd love to move JP for one of the prospects they have in Arizona... Quentin or Jackson would be pretty freakin sweet... I'm guessing they'd definitely move that SS/2B prospect not named Drew or Upton... I forget his name.
November 26, 200520 yr I love JP but provided we get value might as go all the way with this "firesale". I prefer to get value than get nothing in a year or two when he signs with someone else. Same goes for Lo Duca and Castillo we arent going to be threats for a few years and by that time they will be too old or expensive
November 26, 200520 yr wow we have no regular outfielders signed yet, hopefully if Pierre leaves we can sign a good Centerfielder and sign Conine to play left field.
November 26, 200520 yr IMO, it is going to be a long time before Damon signs. Right now he wants a 7 year deal worth 84 million. It will take a while for a team to whittle that contract down to something reasonable.
November 26, 200520 yr This says to me that the market really isn't matching what they thought it would be, to wait that long to make the deal.
November 26, 200520 yr We need JP. I'm not writing the Marlins off just yet. Anything can happen, and as Girardi has said.. he's expecting to win. JP can show a lot of these rookies what hard work really is.. And he had one bad season (which honestly wasn't that horrible)... It's funny how so many people give up on a player after one bad year (Lowell and JP).. but someone has one good season, and everyone is going crazy for him (Pavano - in 2004).

JP can show a lot of these rookies what hard work really is.. And he had one bad season (which honestly wasn't that horrible)... I agree. Imagine how this team can do if JP goes back to being a .325 .385 and 65SB guy? I think he can be a very positive influence on the youngsters, just like how he was with Dontrelle. Let's trade Lo Duca for a catching prospect... and this is what we have: 1. JP 2. Luis 3. Hermida 4. Cabrera 5. Conine (let's re-sign him and put him in LF) 6. Jacobs 7. Ramirez 8. Catching prospect In all honesty, that looks like a pretty good lineup... and it certainly can't do any worse than it did last year.
November 27, 200520 yr I rather keep LoDuca to help the pitchers, and he also plays hard and leads by example. To me thats what we need from the vets. If we keep Castillo, LoDuca, Pierre, and sign a vet or two for the pen, and a guy like Armas, we could surprise alot of people next year.
November 27, 200520 yr We need JP. JP can show a lot of these rookies what hard work really is. Leadership....setting a strong example. This is exactly the reason I believe we should hang on to JP for another year (at least). At this point I would really like to see the FO focus on strengthening the bullpen. Salary is down to around $34M....so according to the reports the Marlins would like to around $40M this next year....Beinfest has about $6M to work with to build the bullpen.
November 27, 200520 yr wow we have no regular outfielders signed yet, hopefully if Pierre leaves we can sign a good Centerfielder and sign Conine to play left field. Have you even been following the team lately? And to all those people who want to throw a team onto the field where Miggy has the most experience, you will be scratching your heads when the DRays have a better record (and better attendance figures). Trade Pierre or LoDuca (or both if you can get adequate value) and keep Castillo. Castillo, even at his price, is a bargain in a market where people like Jimmy Rollins (although he is a 2B) make twice as much.
November 27, 200520 yr Jimmy Rollins plays SS, trade Juan Pierre to someone for an outfield prospect...keep Castillo and LoDuca
November 27, 200520 yr Rangers still talking trade By T.R. Sullivan Star-Telegram Staff Writer The Rangers aren't thrilled with the Florida Marlins over what happened with Josh Beckett, but the two teams are probably not done talking. The Rangers have told the Marlins they are interested in outfielder Juan Pierre if the Florida fire sale isn't over. It probably isn't, especially in the case with Pierre, who is a five-year arbitration-eligible player who made $3.4 million in base salary in 2005. The Rangers know that if they trade Kevin Mench for pitching, they are going to need another outfielder. They aren't going into the season with an outfield of David Dellucci, Laynce Nix and Gary Matthews. Pierre, who can be a free agent after next season, played center field for the Marlins but is better suited to left field. That's fine with the Rangers, who are satisfied with Matthews and Nix defensively in center. What Pierre brings, of course, is the potential to give the Rangers a true leadoff hitter. He had a .361 on-base percentage in 2003 and .374 in 2004, scoring 100 runs in both seasons. He dropped to .326 in 2005 but still scored 96 runs. The Rangers will talk more with the Marlins this week. Winter short hops At some point the Rangers must address right field, and the best free agent available is Juan Encarnacion, who hit .287 with 16 home runs and 76 RBI last season for the Marlins. no so fast my friends, but the question now is what would they offer? the Rangers certainly won't offer what they offered for Beckett...any of you minorleague gurus have any ideas? http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/baseball...rs/13268303.htm also look at this from the Herald Marlins buzz: Though Las Vegas hasn't publicly said how it will pay for a stadium, MLB president Bob DuPuy said MLB was satisfied with Vegas' stadium funding plan when it bid for the Montreal Expos. . . . A New Jersey official called about luring the Marlins, but that's highly unlikely. . . . Texas expressed interest in arbitration-eligible CF Juan Pierre, who's very available. . . . We hear Luis Castillo -- due $5 million in 2006 -- will be unhappy if he's one of just a few veterans retained. you kinda saw this coming

Don't kid yourself. Delgado leaves a HUGE hole in our lineup.
