Team can really swing the bats. We outhit Houston 32-18.

Lost to Oswalt 1-0 and tonight even down early came within a run of tying it up.

Mitre also pitched well, which was a nice surprise.

Also I really like what I've seen from the bullpen early on.

Lost the series 2-1 but wow there's a lot to like here. On to New York!

Our guys can rake. I've never had any doubts about our hitting. We outscored the Astros 16 to 9. If we keep outscoring teams we'll win some games.

Our pitching was more than solid the first two games. Moe got hit around a lot. He's really the only one that performed very poorly this series.

Honestly, we have enough young arms that we can just put them into Moe's rotation spot. So who do we put in the rotation to replace Moe? Ricky Nolasco, that's who. He was a little amped up in his first inning of work, but other than that he was very solid. He's got above average stuff and can throw strikes. I like JJ as much as the next guy and he's got very good stuff, but he just walks way too many guys.

Our rotation would then be: Willis, Mitre, Vargas, Nolasco, and Olsen. I think Mitre has been used poorly by the Cubs. I personally think he's got outstanding stuff. That sinker is mind boggling. We all know about Olsen and Mitre. Of those five, we'll have a new big three emerge. Just watch.

To be honest except for starting pitching and defense on SS, 2B and 1B we are better in every other aspect than the 2004 team.

Gotta agree. And I think the starting pitching has a chance to surprise us.

I was very impressed with both the hitting and pitching. The defense clearly needs to improve, although there were several nice plays tonight, and a web-gem by Willingham in LF.

Moehler and Herges both looked poor, but the rookies were very strong.

I say this team will gel and give the other teams some tough competition.

I love what I'm seeing so far, I knew these guys could hit, however, what has surprised me thus far is the plate disicpline that they're displaying.

I'm loving the bullpen too, I'd never thought i'd say that, Franklyn German, Chris Resop, Carlos Martinez all looked in midseason form. Hopefully Bowyer progresses nicely and will get a shot in the pen later on.

I love this team, lets keep this up.

Yeah really the only major dissapointment was Moehler, and out of Petit/Nolasco/Johnson, I'm sure we can find one of those guys to step into the rotation if Brian continues to falter. Too early to say so far, but I don't think we're going to get a lot of production out of CF between Reggie and Reed.

Especially the bullpen. Nolasco/Johnson(hopefully Moehler soon) provide way above average middle relief, Martinez is filthy, Welleymer and German have great potential, hopefully Borowski and Resop are solid. My only concern as of now is Herges.

It'll be ineresting to see who gets sent down when Olsen gets called up :mischief2

I'm just nervous that the pen is gonna get taxed

Not to beat a dead horse, but the sooner Moehler loses his spot to Johnson/Nolasco, the better this team will be.

And looks like I wasn't so stupid in saying 1-8 we upgraded the offense.

Random, way too early to come to these conclusions but oh well thoughts -

- Hanley Ramirez will be an allstar. Reminds me alot of Derek Jeter but I would love to see him batting 3rd , 5th, or 6th (if we had one more power threat) instead of lead off.

- Wish we had a young talented lead off hitter who is above average in CF....A Jeremy Reed or something, we need to find that guy sometime in the future.

- It depresses me greatly and I can't get the thought out of my mind that we could lose this team to another city. I love this team but I wish I could enjoy them and knew they would devolop before our eyes here in South Florida.

- Carlos Martinez is a future ++ closer.

- Sergio Mitre could be a poor mans Kevin Brown and Joe Robbie stadium will help him immensly.

- Willingham IS THE HAMMER.

- I love this team.

- It depresses me greatly that we could lose them to another city. GET A STADIUM DEAL DONE ASAP ! I promise to buy every single person on this board a round of drinks when we get the deal done. Party at Conines ! Will be just as big a celebration as the World Series wins, if not more.

- Imagine letting this devolop for another year and then being able to raise the payroll to a measly 35 million....20 million extra dollars to spend on another legit power hitting outfielder and signing Willis and Cabs long term.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the sooner Moehler loses his spot to Johnson/Nolasco, the better this team will be.

Girardi pulled Moehler after 31 pitches. One would surmise he already is on a short leash.

Shadez Nation is happy with the first series.

Have to consider that if you reduce the season to a microcosm, the difference between a good team and a mediocre team is winning the rubber game of a three game series. In this series, we came a wild pitch away from winning two of three, and in both of our losses we made Astro fans squirm as their beloved closer was put to the test by patience at the heart of the lineup. I'll take it to start the season - I still think we're in for a few games like this in April and maybe a bit of May before the team finally clicks for good rolling through the rest of the season.

It's really only a good thing. Moehler I'm sure doesn't want to lose his spot, but it makes sense for the team in every way imaginable. Even when Moehler was pitching really well early last season, he wasn't a guy who was going to pitch deep into games very often. He had a lot of 5 inning outings.

It's in the Marlins best interest to find out what kind of starters they've got in all these rookies.

Cheer up. There aren't any realistic options that have been presented to the Marlins for relocation. I suspect the team will be in South Florida for quite awhile.

Now as far as keeping Cabrera and Willis, or any of the rest of this young talent after it matures.....we need a stadium deal.

baseball should watch out for this team in 2007/2008/2009. if we can get a freakin' stadium in so. florida we could end up seeing a dynasty develop before our eyes.

Not to totally damper the enthusiasm, but.....

This team is really young and doesn't have a track record for other teams to look at. Although I love the way we are playing, I think once opposing pitchers find our weaknesses they will be exploited a bit more and averages will fall. LF/CF are huge weaknesses when Willingham is behind the plate; Reed just doesn't belong in the majors, Aguila should be a 4th outfielder, and Abercrombie is too young to be here.

Anyone who watched to 1998-2000 teams knows that there will be trying times. Derrek Lee took absolutely forever to get it figured out at the major league level, and it seems to take the young guys a couple of years at least to work out all the kinks. The first series was great, but let's not start expecting more than a group that will play hard.

I love this team.

I hate Olivo's bat, his defense is f***ing awesome, that has never been a question, everyone has known for quite a while that he has the ability to call a good game and play very well defensively, thats why he is still in the league.

If he can learn to hit .250 on a consistent basis, we win.

I'd even settle for .240 from him.

Willy needs to be in left, absolutely zero question about it.

Aguila sucks and shouldnt be more than a 5th outfielder.

But with a dood like Reed who shouldnt be out of the minors you gotta do what you gotta do.

I still say Abercrombie will end up faltering, but thats ok.

If centerfield is our only bad spot, I'm happy.

Nolasco was great.

Moehler will be out fo the rotation by May at the latest.

Nolasco keeps up pitching like that and he could be in line for a potential starting spot.

The thing that I take away is that Cabs is going to be the catalyst for this offense all year long. Willingham and Hermida, Shadez and Jacobs will do their share, but this team is going to live or die by what Cabrera does. Starting pitching from Willis and Mitre have been exceptional and hopefully tonight was only a one night for Moehler, otherwise he's going to find himself coming out of the pen again. The bullpen seems to be solid, and seems to be much improved over past years with Bump and others coming out there to blow the game in past years.

All in all, NO TEAM better take this team lightly and if they can continue to play like this all year long, I doubt we'll hear many others call this team a "AAA" club by the end of the season.
