I know everyone loves those 'doom and gloom' threads, but here is one that isnt quite like that. Since Reggie Abercrombie's 0/22 streak, he has gone 10/37(including tonight's 2 hits). That 10/37 is good for a .270 batting average. His OBP is around .289

Obviously he still probably isnt ready to be up with the big club, but he has a been a much better hitter since his arrival to Cincy

thoughts? comments? anecdotes?

I agree with you. I don't think the guy's that bad. We might as well give him a shot and see what he can show us.

His first pitch swinging worked out for him twice tonight.

I wouldn't consider that turning the corner, but still I'm glad to see him back at the Mendoza line (.200 exactly). :thumbup

I would say that of all the young guys who have struggled early on, Reggie is the one who will benefit most from being allowed to work through the nerves and "deer in the headlights" plays.

I became a believer when he one-hopped that throw home and the ball beat the runner by 2 steps a few games ago.

His natural talent does cartwheels around Aguila, Reed and Cepicky combined.

:dkdance

I would like to see a little more "Dontrelle Energy" in his step though.

He still needs to be sent down, but I think this month in the big leagues will help his overall progress in the long run.

There really aren't any better options on the team or in AAA/AA so long as Hermida is on the DL, so might as well keep running him out there.

When Hermida returns, I'd like to see Aguila and Abercrombie split time in CF.

Alittle off topic but..... Abercrombie currently has a better batting average than Jacobs(.179)

I think he has the best chance of locking down the CF job, especially with Aguila not being able to make a throw, Reed getting picked off, and neither of them being able to hit. At least Reggie is finding a way lately, he's got about the speed Reed does with amazing range and a great arm that just needs a tad more accuracy.

Reed should be the first to go.

Oh, but then who would Girardi substitute on the bases for his best hitters in close games?

Oh, almost forgot.

Kool Aid also gives you the added bonus that when he gets the right connection on one of those crazy powerful swings, the ball is going a long, long, long way. SEE: Cincy homer.

Like I said before, he's going to be the next barry bonds...........Maybe.

He's getting on-the-job training, and there has been several bumps in the road. No doubt, e'll have more. But it could make him a better player in the future.

Hah.

I think we have bigger problems, see 1st base

seriously, I'm glad Reggie is improving

I'm actually inclined to agree that first base is of much greater concern since things were actually expected of Jacobs while most everyone knew centerfield would have been a massive void.

Reggie's future probably isn't as a starter, but Jacobs isn't even looking like he could handle platoon duties at this point.

:( so sad

I like the tools that he brings to the table. Obviously, his plate patience isn't anywhere near MLB level. You can still get by decently without patience for awhile, but he is going to have to develop some at the plate. He can't go up there having decided already to swing at the first pitch.

both need to be sent down as soon as possible...reed to AAA and reggie to AA...or maybe both in AAA with reggie in RF. I know this won't happen, so I'd rather see reggie go down and get everyday ABs in Querque because he has the higher ceiling. I think Reed is what he is right now.

At least at first base we have a viable option that is both young and full of potential. If Jacobs continues to struggle, I would hope that Stokes gets a chance instead of being mere trade bait. The question for Jacobs is how much the organization will tolerate before they give Stokes a chance.

I wouldn't say the position is more of a concern, but the player probably is. We knew Reggie was a "project" coming in. I'm glad to see Reggie getting some hits, even if I wouldn't say he's turned a corner he's at least shown he can make strides. Still needs a lot of work at the plate but he's at least showing some promise.

Jacobs meanwhile is laying a giant egg. Thank god Yusmeiro is at least pitching well...

stokes has about zero trade value...

stokes has about zero trade value...

I wouldn't say that.

As of right now he has more trade value than Jacobs (currently) and he definately shouldn't be looked as trade bait.

I still pefer him out of there when Hermida comes back..
