Question about Herges, Petit and Mitre.

Featured Replies

Looks like Petit's lack of work really showed today. He needs to be sent down to get consistent innings.

I have been getting slammed for saying this on another board. Petit should have been sent down to get his starts in and German should still be in the pen. Starters need to work and develope. He will not get that opportunity at this level for quite some time yet.

A comeback? He's never been good enough to make a "comeback".

Look at the way the team has pitched since others have taken his innings. He has no case for the starting rotation. If the bullpen continues to improve, he has no claim to that either.

Our pitching did get much better when Mitre left the rotation with the injury...I would love to see him traded for a decent prospect

Mitre is a decent prospect. he's only 25 and before he got injured, he was getting close to having some real nasty stuff.

Mitre is not a prospect. He's a guy pitching at the MLB level without MLB quality stuff.

We've improved since he's been gone.

Please stop. He has MLB quality stuff. He has a very good sinker. Stop being so damn biased, it's annoying and it ruins every single thread. Sergio Mitre has a very capable arm and if not for a few longballs this season, his era would be much lower than the present 4.89. Get off his back.... for the sake of the board and it's sanity.

Whats the more telling split? His road era or his completely pathetic home era?

Let me tell you something, his home splits, in a pitchers park, no matter how horrible they are...he is overperforming. He is way overperforming on the road.

Once again, I ask you to look at how good the pitching has been since he's been hurt and others have gotten his innings. Hopefully, he isnt back on this team anytime soon.

And no, as I can tell you watching darn near every time he's pitched, his stuff is not MLB quality.

Just because Ricky Nolasco, Josh Johnson, and Scott Olsen are facing the National League for the first time, doesnt necessarily mean anything. Sure, I think they are all better suited for this team, but let's wait until they go around the league a second time. A 4.89 isnt that bad. He is 2 pithes away from that being in the 3's.

I happen to think he has a very good sinker. You on the other hand hate him with the passion of a thousand suns, and even if he threw shutout once in his life, you wouldnt give him credit. Oh wait, he did throw a shutout once. But I cant seem to recall against what team, or who was in the lineup.

I'm tired of your crap.

Fact 1: If you can strike out 28 batters in 35 innings while only walking 13, your stuff IS big league quality, regardless of what some loser at some board says.

Fact 2: If you make six starts, and in 3 of those you allow a combined 4 runs in 18.1 innings pitched, you probably belong in whichever league you're playing.

Fact 3: In one of his "bad" starts he went 6 innings and allowed 6 hits and 4 runs. That still kept us in the game.

Fact 4: He's only had 2 real bad starts in six tries, allowing 5 and 7 runs in those. In the 5 run start, he still went 6 innings, so that makes up for it a bit. And in the 7 run (6 earned) start, it was mostly the defense letting him down. Plus, something wasn't right with him in at the time, as suggested by him not even lasting 1 batter in his next start and eventually landing on the DL.

Once again, I ask you to look at how good the pitching has been since he's been hurt and others have gotten his innings. Hopefully, he isnt back on this team anytime soon.

Fact 5: Mitre's injury has given his innings to Nolasco. Nobody else. Mitre's injury didn't have an ounce to do with Moehler's improvement during our hot stretch. Ditto for Willis' improvement. Ditto for the bullpen. And Josh has been starting in place of Vargas. So, again, you have no point.

Look, we all realize he hasn't been, and probably never will be spectacular. But his ability to whiff people, along with the low walk totals at age 25, tell you there is a decent chance of him becoming an above average pitcher in a year or two.

Well, if that ever happens, which with someone of his lack of ability it probably never will, hopefully it wont be here. Hopefully he's not here after this year. We have too many good young pitching prospects to have a turd like Mitre wasting a spot in the rotation.

Dude, he's had some good games. Why do you refuse to accept anyone else's opinions, or even hard FACTS to the contrary?

Proof of Him having good games.....

APR 30 COL 0 1 3.82 0 7.0 7 1 2 5

Release em both.

First of all you can't release Mitre, he's on the DL.

Second, assuming he comes back healthy on or about the 12th of July, if comes back with three solid starts and shows no signs of shoulder problems he'll be in demand at the trade deadline two weeks later. Not that I'm looking to trade him but any number of contenders would have an interest there. For that matter if Moehler does not completely implode he'll be tradeable as well.

Because even a blind squirrel finds a nut?

Doesnt change the fact that he's a bad pitcher who doesnt have the stuff to pitch at the MLB level.

Bud Smith threw a no hitter, doesnt mean he's a good pitcher.

This is ridiculous, if you have anything against Mitre as far as his attitude or just him, THEN SAY IT! Don't try and get everyone against one pitcher by throwing garbage stats down our throats!

Doesn't desrve to be @ the ML level? He had a CG shutout against us last year and outdueled Halladay. The kid has a lot of potential! The kid has great stuff, don't use some terrible outings to overshadow his success, also his age won't kill him, his experience in the majors will help him improve.

Also if you REALLY think everyone decided to start pitching better and the defence decided to start playing better because Mitre was on the DL, then don't even bother responding cause you will endanger your credibility even more

Mitre pitched way better than Brian Moehler has this season. I'm for flat out releasing Moehler when Mitre comes back.

both should be in the bullpen, they can be long relif mop ups....leave the roatation for willis, olsen, JJ, Nolasco,Petit, Sanchez,etc.....

Mitre does not really have the mentality of a releiver, he has shown that in contributing to certain cub losses
