Reggie Sent down

I'm sad to see Reggie go. After meeting him at the awards dinner and seeing what a down to earth guy he is and hearing him talk of his off season preparation (working on his swing, etc), I was really pulling for him to have a great spring and get that CF job. I hope he can do well in AAA and make it back to the bigs.

Jesus, I didnt realize the "Shot in Cincy" was his first MLB HR.

What a way to get your first.

Can a baseball be hit much further than that?

He hit that one like 490 right? I think physicists have proven that the furthest a human can physically hit a baseball with a wooden bat is like 550.

We will always have this Reggie moment.

:(

I'll miss you Reggie. Hopefully you get another shot somewhere eventually.

P.S. Michael Gosling still blows.

Btw

Alex Sanchez blows, and so does Eric Reed, but Sanchez blows even worse.. Borchard better be starting in CF.

Wasn't Galaragga's shot at Joe Robby about 550?

I'm trying to find where I read the study. It may be in this book:

Good luck in AAA Kool Aid. Reed won't be far behind so save his seat on the bus.

Harsh but true.

Doubtful.

No I think it's more like probable.

I like Eric Reed. He hustles and he is great defensively.

But what has he done in the Majors that would indicate that it's "doubtful" he will end up back in the Minors soon?

Reggie didn't deserve to waste away on our roster last year not playing. His physical talent is undeniable and the only way he will ever realize it is getting consistent work.

I'll always remember that shot against The Rocket. I was sitting behind the Astros bullpen and I was screaming "Get up ball, get up!"

They should trade him right now while someone may still be stupid enough to offer something valuable in return. Reggie sucks, he's no spring chicken either. Seems like a nice guy, but he's terrible. I'm surprised to see him go this early, but it's the right move.

If you were a GM of a major league baseball team what would you give in trade for Kool-Aid? I wanna remind you your job depends on the team's performance...I am sure that it wouldn't be very much if anything

Good luck in the future Reggie.... Can this guy even be a regular AAA or even AA CF? Who knows.... How in the H*%& did this guy even make the Marlins last year? Talk about desperation. You guys remember his mom(in houston)(Craig Mins interview) saying how proud she was after his first hit and "he was here to stay"....haha

I wonder who's idea it was to keep Reggie in the major league club all last year. Was it Girardi or was it the GM? Either way, I think it is best for both Reggie and the club for him to play daily in the minors rather than suffer through another horrible season at the major league level, hurting the club with every out he made. We all agree that he needs more development and he certainly failed miserably last year. So I applaud the move.

Not much of a major league career so far but as its been said, if my major league career had a 490 foot shot to left field and home run off of one of the greatest pitchers the game has ever known, I'd still be smiling at the end of the day...

I'll take Borchard as my starting center fielder, please.

With what we have now I agree with you here. Reggie needs to learn plate discipline and that every pitcher he ever faces is going to change speeds to fool him. He seems to not ever have an idea what may be coming.

Good luck in AAA Kool Aid. Reed won't be far behind so save his seat on the bus.

You could say the same about Joe Borchard. From what I gather, this Reed kid can at least play defense. And both Reed and Borchard are(stat wise) pretty terrible at the plate.

So in that situation, two options that are both bad hitters, dont you take the one who cant at least play the position?

(Borchard was loathed by my friends who are White Sox fans, pretty much saying if it had anything to do with baseball he was awful at it)

That probably says more about your choice of friends and their knowledge of the game than it does about Borchard's playing ability.

Borchard proved last season he can play the game defensively (at least as a corner outfielder, school is still out on his potential in CF) and offensively his ten homeruns in 230 ABs equates to a 25+ HR season if he played everyday. Additionally (and this is just my own little thing no one has to agree with the methodology or validity of the claim) I like to look at what it would take to make a player's numbers respectable, in this case I looked at what it would take to get Borchard from a .230 BA to a .275 BA. The answer was ten (10) more hits. Knowing the game is one of inches and a little luck (good and bad) I see potential there for improvement. One additional hit in every 23 ABs last season changes people's perception of him completely.

Aside from my nasty little comment at the start of this post ( :notworthy ) I'm willing to bet if Borchard had come in and hit .275 with ten homeruns in 230 ABs this conversation wouldn't be taking place and most people would be generally happy with performance, urging the FO to install him in CF. Keep in mind alot of those ABs were solos coming off the bench as a pinch-hitter.

I have no idea what he'd do in an everyday role but I don't think he should be written off too quickly. He has the "potential" to succeed at this game and showed glimpses of it last season and this spring. It's anyone's guess whether he does the job or not, but I'm not ready to bet against the guy.

Is it just me or do all the Reggie topics usually turn into who could come up with the funniest joke on Reggie?

You're right. And it's stupid. They can't top the joke that was his performance.

Not to be harsh, but isn't this kind of a last chance for Abercrombie? Unless he turns into the AAA all-star he has never been (or AA), he'll be lucky to get spring training invites let alone a real shot at a MLB job.

Wasn't Galaragga's shot at Joe Robby about 550?

529 feet I think

I have heard of Mickey Mantle being credited with a 560+ foot HR, but that was well before the system we have today for analysis.

all these stats, you are tryin to justify this guy, when he was just brought in on a FAVOR IMO

GOOD LUCK REGGIE I'm confident we will see more of you soon

a favor? that is absolutely ridiculous

Borchard played on the south side of Chicago. And it's not like Borch grew up in Chicago, he was born in California and went to Stanford. As for Girardi, he is an Illinois boy.
