Game 5 Thoughts

de aza is really good offensively. i really think he's going to be more than adequate. something like .275/.335/.395.

He's gotta show he can pull the ball with some degree of regularity before you expect league average or better numbers from him.

Where do you suggest they bat him?

I have no clue lol .. but I remember Fredi (I think it was him) saying he would love to see Hanley bat 3rd. So that clears up lead off but this all depend on what De Aza does now. I just have high expectations for De Aza! :thumbup .

I wouldn't be against hitting him elsewhere if he proves to be patient enough and Uggla continues to struggle.

Hermida's return may or may not complicate things. I really have no idea.

It would not be a very good idea, IMO, to have De Aza stealing at bats from Hammer and Jacobs each game

It sounds like to me that she was more advocating taking at bats away from Uggla. If that's what she was saying, then I agree with her.

Gotcha... I don't see De Aza being worthy enough to hit above up there, even with Uggla expected struggles (by some)

IMO, Hermida gets first crack at the 2 hole if Uggla's ever shifted out of there.

why? i don't recall louie pulling much from the left side of the plate?

Luis also switch hit, showed an ability to bunt for a hit and simply batted left-handed to utilize his (then) world class speed.

So I fail to see how De Aza and Luis belong in the same sentence. Other than a sentence like "Man, I wish De Aza was as good as Luis."

Let's not compare De Aza to Luis yet. Let's see where he is in 4 weeks, not 4 games, before we get excited at all.

I mean, the season is so young that if the guy goes 0-4 tomorrow, his average will fall almost 60 points and be under .300

Let's not forget that he is a career .266 minor league hitter. Sure, I am glad he is off to a fast start, but I will withhold judgment on making him the next big thing until I see more than 4 games worth of ABs from a guy.

Obviously you forgot that De Aza was taken in the rule v by Beinfest just like someone else, oh ya, DAn UGGLA!!1 So, Beinfest has found something else here.

And ALso let's not give up on Julio. Because I've got two words: Todd Jones. Two more: Admin Beinfest!!!1

:whistle

I didn't get to watch Game 5, but my thoughts are very plain and simple on the issue: Josh Willingham is....FABULOUS!!!

Jacobs also has been tearing it up quietly.

Lets leave the line up as it is. We are 3-2 with it so lets just give it a couple of weeks before we think of moving anyone around. And do not put de Aza in the second spot; as soon as you put the rookie there he will start pressing because he has to get on base, etc, and that's where he will get messed up. So as soon as Uggla and Borchard (or his replacement) begin hitting, we will be fine, yes, even if Cabs and Jacobs start "slumping" and begin hitting in the oh so lowly 300s.

Kids, kids, let's play a few more (weeks of) games before we begin drafting a eulogy for Dan Uggla, hmmm?

Trying to unwind from tonight's game (and the drive back to Palm Beach from Dolphin Stadium). I'm still not too concerned about Julio. At least from our vantage point in Sec. 127, one of those shots looked foul and we just couldn't tell what the hell he did to "balk" in that run. I think he'll right the ship, the man DOES have 99 career saves. You just don't fall bass ackwards into 99 saves!

Here are some of the sights (but not sounds) of tonight from the Fish Tank:

Eventually that may happen but to do it after 5 games would be nuts. I don't expect Uggla to repeat his '06 numbers but I expect him to outhit De Aza. If De Aza continues to get on base and Uggla continues to struggle then have De Aza leading off and move Uggla down to the bottom but you have to give Uggla a lot more than 5 games.

leave De Aza down in the order he provides an offensive spark there. Don't worry about Uggla he will hit it's only been 5 games

Good reasoning on Julio and pretty much echos mine. Give our coaching staff another couple weeks before we change things up. At least tonight Fredi had Randy up and ready to go after that slow start in the 9th. I'm not for him or against him right now and I most certainly am not going to be like the majority of the fans here. Ya know the ones. Thought Borchard was a god just by looking at his ST numbers without seeing the games and now think he needs to go, or the ones that all of a sudden want Uggy demoted after 5 games. I'm nervous when he comes into the games but I was the same way with alot of our closers. Dragon Slayer and JoBo to name just two.

Not to be kissing De Aza's butt all the time (I have to alittle because I have been cheering for him since the first day of spring). I wonder why Fredi put De Aza 7th in the lineup? Maybe he is building some trust in him or because Treanor is meh? I wonder if sometime this year (based on his performance) he will start batting higher in the lineup.

Simple reasoning if you think about it. Back up catcher comes in and De Aza is doing prety well. Fredi said he would most likely be moving up in the line up as his experience grows and he learns. My guess is that if Olivo comes back and plays Sunday, De Aza is back in the 8 slot.

Yeah Alejandro made that fielding error (as costly as it was), but he is a rookie...

nothing to do with being a rookie.... he took a terrible angle on the ball

he did, but i felt he should have realized he had no shot and just kept the ball in front of him. he keeps that ball in front of him and d-train maybe goes 7 innings.

Has everything to do with being a rookie. I would think Fish Fans that experienced last year would realize that. Kid saw a potential huge play and went for it instead of dropping back and keeping it in front of him. And let's not forget that this was only his second time playing in that spacious CF. He's a smart kid and my bet is that he just learned an important lesson at playing in center field at Joe Robbie.

If not for that play maybe DTrain goes 7 innings??? Give me a break. Might as well also say if not for that play maybe Miggy wouldn't have been a little more tired from standing out there an extra play and would have hit a HR his next AB.

I love this picture.. Was this when Hammer hit the homer?

No, I took that picture after Hammer doubled in Miggy and Jacobs in the fifth.

Bronco, you drive a Honda Pilot all decked out with Marlins stuff? On Friday I passed one on the Turnpike on the way to the game up by Delray (Atlantic Ave. exit) and wondered if that was you.

Saturday was another festive night at Dolphin Stadium. Never thought I'd say this, but the Marlins people are doing a great job so far (granted, it has only been two games) at making it very fun. I hope this results in higher attendance. :thumbup

*waits for someone to complain*

The goal is to see if they can keep friday and saturday attendance high. So far so good. Today will be interesting because its sunday and its easter. My prediction is 14,000 and a marlins win!

Any news on when Tank is coming back? I was really nervous when Julio was on the mound yesterday. Thank God we had a 5 runs lead because if not this guy would have blown another one. I know this is is second game but I really dont trust him nor dont want him to pitch when the game is on the line.
