Bonds To The Marlins...

Featured Replies

I'll take a bet with those odds.

Im taking that Loria plane ride into consideration.

5000-1? It is more like 1,000,000,000-1 I have a better chance of winning the lotto and getting hit by lightning in the same day

does Barry Bonds have that good of chance of being struck by lighting that same day. It would be our luck

Someone asked me to make this for them before:

That said, we have much better sh*t to do with that money. Not like there's a snowballs chance in hell anyways.

I honestly think we should be in the top 5 best odds of this happening. I really do believe there is a good to very good chance we see Bonds in a Marlin uniform next year. Would not surprise me at all. There are just so many variables as to why it makes sense for us and this is the type of signing that historically Loria seems to like + he tried it last year...

I would put our odds at about 6-1, or just in front of retirement and behind the A's. 5000-1 ??? wow! I would put down a bill even if it was 100-1(btw if anybody knows a book that is playing this bet...lemme know!).

I dont know why you think this is so likely.

Remains to be seen if the team will compete. Loria probably doesnt want any more bad publicity, and signing the biggest cheater in sports today(likely history) isnt good by itself, but doing it while claiming to be cash strapped aint great either. Selig has tried to distance himself from Bonds, the Marlins want a new ballpark and need MLB's help. Signing the one player that has been the biggest thorn in Seligs side and the one guy he likely wishes would just go away could hamper stadium negotiations.

Just as many variables as to why it wont happen as to why it will, and thats a good thing.

I dont know why you think this is so likely.

Not to mention we don't have a position open for him. Corner OF isn't even close to a priority. Hammer has improved greatly. Maybe not a future GGer, but a very good LFer, and cheap. Jeremy has shown what he can do with his bat and I think the "timidness" I sense from him in the OF is wearing off. And that cannon of an arm that I complained earlier about not seeing has finally been loaded and fired. If you want to talk offense, then HRs isn't our problem either.

Unless Bonds can take the mound and become a CY candidate, we simply have no use for him.

You made a good point when you mentioned that Selig has tried to distance himself from Bonds but your post loses credibility when your hate gets the best of you and you stoop to calling him the "biggest cheater in sports today".

I would put the Marlins at about 12-1 to land Barry and I will applaud the signing if they make it.

3 teams offered Bonds last season: the Giants, the Angels and us.

Bonds still wants to be a left-fielder, he doesn't want to DH.

Jeffrey Loria loves Barry Bonds (or do you not remember the near tampering charge from 2006 when Loria took Bonds on his private plane to New York?)

I'd say we have to be in the top-5 teams because: 1) We're a national league team. 2) Florida's a no-state-income-tax-state and 3) We've already gone down that road before in terms of offering him.

Bonds is just going to have to weigh how much he values being a left-fielder on a team that could be quite special with him on it rather than being a DH on a team that is already good. Miggy and Bonds really do deserve each other, for at least one season, just to see how incredible that lineup is.

And PS: Bonds has considered Florida before, he was thisclose to being our left-fielder in 1997 and not Alou.

but your post loses credibility when your hate gets the best of you and you stoop to calling him the "biggest cheater in sports today".

I dont know if its stooping or even hate when its the truth.

So how exactly is Bonds the biggest cheater in all of sports above any of the hundred if guys who were probably on but ALSO never caught on steroids as well? Just because he was better? That statement is so stupid.

Thanks, I was gonna say it, but you got there first. What makes Bonds a bigger cheater than the rest of the guys that are KNOWN to also be doing the same crap as him? Is it because he is better than they all are? He was always better than they all are. Oh man, I didnt read past your first sentence and you also mentioned the better thing. Well, good for you, you have a fantastic mind and I applaud you for that. But yeah, I cant agree more. Bonds is a cheater but Id love an explanation of what makes him the BIGGEST cheater.

...I was just playing "what if" with the whole "bring Bonds to Florida" scenario. If he did end up in Florida, something would need to be done with Hammer. As stated before, he could be moved to 1B. The other option would be to trade him. So, I guess I'm wondering if he would be more valuable to us as a 1B, or as a trading chip.

You would move Hammer to 1B

and while he is a valuable commodity, someone making the minimum (close to it) is more valuable to us

You keep Willingham and trade Jacobs.

Obviously, Willingham is the more valuable of the two. But, what would we receive for Jacobs?

If Willingham in LF(offensively and defensively) = Bonds in LF(offensively and defensively), then we are neither upgrading nor downgrading LF offensively or defensively by bringing in Bonds. This, of course, creates two scenarios:

Scenario A:

Move Hammer to 1B, receive a modest upgrade both offensively and defensively over Jacobs.

Trade Jacobs and receive ???

Scenario B:

Leave Jacobs at 1B, receiving no upgrade at the position, but not downgrading either.

Trade Willingham and receive a modest upgrade at CF?? C??
