October 3, 200718 yr Why is it that the media always complains about the 10 pm start times in the first round? This is in reference to Mike Greenberg ranting about it on ESPN. When will they get the idea lodged in their head that with west coast baseball, this is inevitable? 10 pm et starts are not a problem. 11 pm et starts however can be a problem. and i bet west coasters were ranting about 10 am pt starts a few years ago. caused me to miss almost all the braves 2000 playoff action because all three games started at 10 am pt and i couldn't see them because it was way too early.

October 4, 200718 yr Jose Mota is very awkward in front of the camera with a mic but other than that, TBS has done a good job.
October 4, 200718 yr Author Ted Robinson calls a damn fine tennis match, but he was absolutely brutal tonight.
October 5, 200718 yr Ted Robinson calls a damn fine tennis match, but he was absolutely brutal tonight. TBS may have matched NBC for most random B, C & D game crews. Reminds me when they had Chip Caray, Joe Morgan, and Bob Uecker as their A crew because Costas was doing the Olympics. But Don Orsillo/Joe Simpson, Ted Robinson/Steve Stone, and Mel Proctor/Ron Darling take the cake. All are solid, but they are about as colorful as a white sheet of paper. At least that means the ESPN circus stays on radio exclusively. I still think FOX has better A, B & C crews. Update: So I was looking up some info.... Chip Caray? Aforementioned MLB work for NBC along with hosting FOX Saturday Baseball. Ted Robinson? Worked for NBC during the 90's on The Baseball Network and GOTW. Mel Proctor? Was so bad with partner Ron Darling on MASN/Nationals broadcasts in that first season in DC that both were let go....and never was allowed by NBC to go near a baseball microphone as far as I can tell. I think TBS would have helped itself by not being so random. I don't have issue with Robinson, but Proctor? Oh well, at least it's the late game.
October 5, 200718 yr Some comments for the Spanish-speakers on the TBS en Espa?ol coverage: You can get the audio from Pete Manzano and Fernando Palacios in Spanish via TBS SAP, but CNN en Espa?ol is also carrying the games in Spanish, for those of you with abuelitos and abuelitas who need their games in Spanish and can't get TBS SAP. (Many folks can get CNN en Espa?ol already with their normal Digital Cable service.) The TBS coverage is growing on me though, I'm liking the graphics and studio show. For FOX coverage, rumor has it Felo Ramirez will be returning to call the game on FOX SAP and FOX Sports en Espa?ol....possibly with Cookie Rojas and Fernando Valenzuela alongside.
October 6, 200718 yr Day 1 of Division Series Averages 4.5 Million on TBS Thursday, 04 October 2007 MLB announced today that the first day coverage of the 2007 Major League Baseball Division Series on TBS delivered an average 3.6 HH rating and an average of 4.54 million viewers, according to Live plus Same Day data from Nielsen Media Research. The triple header’s average audience of 4.54 million viewers – which featured the Colorado Rockies at the Philadelphia Phillies, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at the Boston Red Sox, and the Chicago Cubs at the Arizona Diamondbacks – exceeded last year’s Day One triple-header coverage. In 2006, a triple-header that featured a pair of games on ESPN and a New York Yankees – Detroit Tigers primetime telecast, had an average audience of 4.48 million viewers. Game 1 of yesterday’s schedule on TBS (Colorado at Philadelphia) produced a 2.6 HH rating and 3.17 million viewers, exceeding last year’s Game 1 audience on ESPN by 78 percent. The second game yesterday – the Angels at Boston – recorded a 4.3 HH rating and an average of 5.46 million viewers. The 5.46 million viewers represents the most watched telecast on all of ad-supported cable for the day. The game’s viewership represents a 115 percent increase over last year’s Game 2 broadcast. The two pre-primetime Division Series windows on TBS yesterday averaged 4.26 million viewers, marking a 94 percent year-to-year increase over the two Division Series windows on ESPN during the first day of coverage last year. The final game of yesterday’s Division Series coverage on TBS, which featured the Chicago Cubs visiting the Arizona Diamondbacks, produced a 4.0 HH rating and an average audience of 5.13 million viewers. From 8:00-11:00pm, TBS averaged a 4.1 HH rating and 5.19 million viewers which made it easily the most-watched network on cable television for the night in primetime. http://www.bizofbaseball.com/index.php?opt...9&Itemid=52
October 6, 200718 yr I like this crew TBS has of Caray, Gwynn, and Brenly. The rest are kinda meh though.
October 6, 200718 yr Had a look at the TBS message board. From just reading what people there wrote, you would think that TBS had just killed the game and poured salt on the grave. :lol Wow! A lot of disatisfied people there. :confused
October 6, 200718 yr I feel TBS has been outstanding in their coverage. I'm not crazy about Stone but everyone else has done well and the production has been good
October 6, 200718 yr Game 2 for all the crews are in and they all seem to mesh well. TBS' studio crew is excellent and the Chip/Gwinn/Brenly trio was solid last night. Ted Robinson and Steve Stone sound like a blast from the NBC Baseball past though, I kept expecting Bob Costas to pop in at any moment, thank god he did not. So far, I give TBS an A. They handled the tossing of the Los Angeles-Boston game to TNT excellently and they make it so easy to follow the games. :thumbup BTW, Dick Stockton is paired with Ron Darling instead of Proctor, as I incorrectly posted previously. They have shown some improvement...good thing they are the D-Crew.

October 6, 200718 yr Terry Robinson is beyond terrible. Steve Stone doesn't help matters. Ted was NBC's #2 man behind Costas in the 90's....if NBC got baseball back....he would still be calling games. I think he's done a pretty good job considering he hasn't called a baseball game in over 10 years. I like Steve Stone, but the audio issues with his mic last night were bothering me. It kept echoing through the start of the game.

BTW Brenly and Gwynn were brilliant
October 6, 200718 yr Author Here is what 'grades' I'd give the broadcastors: Studio Ernie Johnson - A+ Curtis Granderson - A+ Cal Ripken Jr. - B- Frank Thomas - C Play by Play Chip Caray - A Don Orsillo - A Dick Stockton - B- Ted Robinson - D- Color Tony Gwynn - A Bob Brenly - A Ron Darling - C Joe Simpson - C- Steve Stone - D
October 7, 200718 yr Author Seriously. He is very, very good. If you or anyone else doesn't read his blog, I'd recommend it. He actually writes it too. :lol http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?...anderson_curtis
October 7, 200718 yr What I like is how ESPN is no longer guaranteed the "top" MLB broadcast talent that FOX doesn't use. Before ESPN would horde anyone they could, but now TBS has 4 crews and ESPN Radio has 4 crews. Stockton works on FOX MLB telecasts too as their 6th string voice when the NFL on FOX doesn't need him to call a football game, but Buck, Albert, and Vasgersian are calling football. So I'm used to the idea of him calling baseball games because he's called several Marlins games on FOX over the last few years. Ted Robinson has done pretty well, I feel, with his call considering he hasn't done baseball in over 10 years.
