There's no tigers on this one... he's been "uncomfortable" to say the least when he comes in... on the season his stats don't scream anything terrible, but he just doesn't give me the feeling that the game is over, and the walks ALWAYS hurt

He's always "bend but don't break" but sooner or later its going to catch up with him

He still is throwing well, just catching some bad breaks. That 3-2 slider to Sweeney to end the game was a beautiful pitch, he just nailed it.

 

I say leave him where he is. We have gotten this far with him as our closer, no need to change it up at this point.

His value is at its highest...possibly now. He's still the "closer." Although I'm not sure how long we'll be saying that...

 

btw, I think Gregg makes 2.1 mill, and Miller makes 1 mill (the contract, I believe, he got when he was drafted)...could be wrong, though.

Gregg is a few years younger than Nelson, pitched a TON more innings in the majors, with some success in the AL, and fell into the closer role taking over for Jorge freakin' worst closer ever Julio, on a struggling team that realistically was going nowhere, and has been very solid in that role ever since.

 

He isn't putting up bad numbers, he has had some bad games, but to make a change right now would be a mistake, IMO. If he starts putting up Julio like numbers or you see the velocity on his FB drop, or his slider isn't breaking right...you start thinking about it. None of those things are happening right now though.
