July 4, 200817 yr I'm not usually one to start threads on a message board, generally I'm more of a reader, but this has just gotten me so angry that I have to vent it. Is it just me, or does it seem like Kensing's wild pitch in tonight's games against the Rockies was just the latest in a long line of Marlins relievers throwing one in the dirt in the late innings of a close game? Pinto a couple of nights ago, I know I've seen Gregg do it what seems like every other appearance. It is about the most infuriating thing I've ever seen.
July 4, 200817 yr Yea our Bullpen has been really bad for about a good month now. I dont know what the problem is but they better straighten out fast. They have blown about 5 games for us this year. 5 very important games.
July 4, 200817 yr Kensing just got unlucky in that inning. He made the batters look silly in my opinion. That ball in the dirt should have been blocked, but what can you do? I thought he pitched pretty well despite the unlucky hits he gave up.
July 4, 200817 yr It's very frusterating. We have the worst luck too, we throw wild pitches and it seems like there are always RISP to take advantage, but when we are batting and a wild pitch is thrown it always seems to be when no one is on f***ing base.
July 4, 200817 yr Call me crazy but I'm going to be very pissed if Kevin Gregg ever gets the chance to save a game again. HE SUCKS.
July 4, 200817 yr Was Hoover's fault, he needs to learn how to block pitches..... PUT YOUR BODY IN FRONT OF THE BALL, GOD THIS TEAM IS FRUSTRATING.
July 4, 200817 yr Author Rich Waltz was a little wordy at the end of the game: "And the Marlins bullpen blows two leads tonight" should have been " And the Marlins bullpen BLOWS." How many games are we going to give away this year? If the front office is at all serious about this season, they HAVE TO get us some relief pitching. I hate Kevin Gregg. I'm not surprised he blew the save. I'm surprised that he didn't do it by walking in/wild pitching in the tying run first. IMO Joe Nelson has been the only reliever out there lately who looks like he knows what he's doing. Has there been any thought to moving him to the closer spot?
July 4, 200817 yr Hoover is horrible at framing pitches - it seemed like we got 0 borderline calls tonight. He's also not good at blocking them either. Gregg.... has just lost his Closer's role IMO. And Pinto should not be our F-ing setup guy anymore.... his walks are not a new problem, he's always walked a lot of people. The last thing we need is our second highest ranked, in the bullpen hierarchy: 1. closer 2. 8th inning setup guy, to be a walk machine. Please do something Marlins FO.
July 4, 200817 yr Hoover is horrible at framing pitches - it seemed like we got 0 borderline calls tonight. He's also not good at blocking them either. 100% correct... i've noticed as well.
July 4, 200817 yr The Marlins don't get borderline calls regardless of who is catching Fredi does really need to shake some things up. Both the line up and bullpen could use some reordering.

When a pitcher throws a great pitch, the batter does not hit the ball well, and he gets a base hit - that is a lucky hit.

July 4, 200817 yr Kensing recorded three outs in that inning before the wild pitch. Had our defense done it's job, it would never have happened.
July 4, 200817 yr Might seem weird, but why not give Doug Waechter a shot at closing? I know he's our long guy but once JJ comes back , hopefully we'll have one of the starters go into that long relief roll. (Hendrickson or Tucker maybe, with one getting sent down (Tucker) or the other getting released.) Just an idea, don't kill me.

I thought he pitched pretty well despite the unlucky hits he gave up. What is an unlucky hit, please explain. The explanation is easy. Kensing hasn't made the "hate list" yet. When he does things will be blamed on him. Until he does things will be blamed on everybody else. With the exception of Hanley and Uggla.
July 4, 200817 yr Just thinking out loud but why not give Tucker a shot at the closer's job? He's got the stuff for it and it seems in his starts that he gets in most of his trouble about the third time through the order. His problems have a lot to do with not having a developed third pitch yet, but as a closer he'd be able to rely on his fastball the majority of the time. I know people have viewed him as a closer candidate in the past, why not give him an opportunity sooner rather than later. The only negative I see is that means Hendrickson would stay in the rotation longer (at least until Sanchez is healthy).

To paraphrase an ex Marlin manager, "When a pitch come in at 96 mph, it leaves the ball park at 106 mph." Tucker needs to go down to AA and work on some things. He has great SP potential. And despite all the Hendrickson hate posts, when JJ gets back that will most likely be the guy off the 25 man roster.
