July 5, 200817 yr I know there are other threads about this. And no, I will not change my opinion if he somehow finds his groove again temporarily - Kevin Gregg needs to go. He has no business closing games for a major league team. Stick him in middle relief to join all the rest of the clowns in the pen. But never as a closer. As it has been said, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me twenty times, it is time to find a good psychiatrist.
August 30, 200817 yr Author I know it's an old thread, but let's have two threads about how great our closer is because he deserves it.
August 30, 200817 yr Author The question is how long will the Marlins continue to let him close games? You gotta figure at this point they are just trotting him out there hoping to increase his trade value. At what point do they decide that continually using him as a closer decreases his trade value? I think that point came and went awhile ago. Maybe after tonight the Marlins will finally decide that time has come as well.

August 30, 200817 yr The Marlins in the past are known for converting middle relievers into good closers. See Armando Benitez and Joe Borowski. However, Gregg is definitely not closer material. He has cost us numerous games and more than likely the playoffs. Im sitting by the bullpen tomorrow so ill make sure he gets it!

August 30, 200817 yr wow, just today made me think, 10 blown saves, we lost i believe 7 or 8 of those games, i'm not sayin he should have a Brad Lidge like season, but he is a big reason we are 7 games back, just that simple. We survived wit a sh*tty starting rotation to begin the season, the least Gregg could've done in return was give us 1 inning of shut out ball every night, hell arthur rhodes has done that thus far in 12 games straight@!
August 30, 200817 yr One thing is to say Kevin Gregg as a player sucks but another to say he is a born loser. There's no need for that.

Mostly ALL closers were a middle reliver at some point in their career. Very few pitchers are automatically handed the closer spot. You've got to earn it.
August 30, 200817 yr I'm boycotting the marlins until freddi gonzales removes gregg as our closer. I'm not a fare weather fan, but I'm not going to waste my time rooting for a team that cares more about sticking a currently horrible pitcher on the mound in the 9th, than about winning. When anyone else has horrible streaks, they don't get to pitch. When pinto was sucking, he wasn't used as the setup man anywhere near as often as he was in the beginning. Why is gregg special? because he's our "closer?" Closers in the mlb are given way too much leeway.
August 30, 200817 yr Author Can anyone recall from what game it was that Gregg basically became a one-pitch (fastball) pitcher? I remember in the Atlanta game, he was up there throwing fastball after fastball. Then tonight he was in there pumping in fastball after fastball. When he tried his splitter finally, we all saw the result - grand slam homerun from Beltran. So was it the Atlanta game during the last series or was it before that he effictively became a one-pitch pitcher?

Oh, can you do it in a Welsh accent please, just like Tom Jones, so he'll know it's from me? Diolch yn fawr! (Thank you very much in Welsh)
August 30, 200817 yr should take a sign saying Gregg you suck. we should make him want to leave. he deserves no support. he blows and NOBODY can defend him.

August 30, 200817 yr Author I think we should keep Gregg on the team. Agreed. There is nothing more fun than a wildcard in the bullpen. Will he completely implode? Will he be able to throw anything besides a fastball? Who's to say! That is what makes baseball great.
August 30, 200817 yr i really like kevin and its too bad it has to go down like this becuase he can be lights out and we know it
