Will it be Zaun?

Featured Replies

Treanor is so iffy with his injury and the catching choices are twindling while the asking prices are going up. Zaun is a serious possibility.

Excerpt:

"Zaunie just wants to play, and he's a free agent after this year," Gaston said. "He wants to play, and put up some numbers and you know, he hasn't been able to play here like he wanted to. He got hurt and Barajas has come up and played better than he has. To me, you put the best player out there."

Given his current situation, Zaun said he would relish the chance to be a backup for a contender, or to provide a veteran presence as a starter for a team like the Marlins. Zaun said he believes the work he's done over the last five years with Toronto's pitching staff, which has developed into one of the better groups in baseball, could carry over to another team.

Zaun would be a solid addition, especially if the price is low. He'd be more effective than Baker/Hoover/Treanor/Rabelo.

yes he is better then them but not what we need. we need bengie pudge laird or doumit.

Treanor may say he's coming back next week and will probably try but put these two words together in your heads - groin + catcher = DL sooner than later.

That said I wouldn't be surprised to see the Fish bring in TWO catchers, and in that case Zaun, who sees himself as a backup catcher already, would be a bad # 2, not with an OBP in the mid-.300s. Torotnto has repeatedly said they'd be happy to trade him if anyone expressed an interest because Barajas is playing so well.

I would be surprised as I said above to see a totally new catching tandem in the next 48 hours.

I think it would be a wise move but I don't see it as something Beinfest would do.

Im not a big fan of Zaun i rather want Molina/Pudge/Doumit/Laird to be the marlins catcher if we get anyone.

Any catcher is a huge upgrade over the garbage the Marlins have been running out there. I'm thinking that even Gregg Zaun would be a huge upgrade over anything the Marlins currently have and you could get him for a secondary prospect. If you want Laird, Molina or Doumit you are going to have to give up something that will leave a mark on the future of the Marlins. The Pirates in particular have no reason to trade Doumit unless they get a pitcher back that can start for them right now.

A note of correction:

In my post above regarding Zaun which has already been quoted....

I MEANT TO SAY "WOULDN"T BE A BAD #2 , not "WOULD BE".

My bad.

Just for fun-

Would you guys do this deal:

Rangers get- Hermida, Volstad and a mid-level prospect

Marlins get- Salty, Hamilton

And btw-

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel says a television report out of Toronto has the Marlins interested in Gregg Zaun.

The Marlins are known to be searching for a catcher, so it's not a huge surprise they're interested in Zaun, a switch-hitter who's batting .243/.349/.370 this season.

OHH my thats a tuff one. They get Hermida Volstad and a Mid level prospect, and we get Josh Hamilton and Saltalamachia i think that would have been a good trade Salty a future allstar catcher Josh hamilton 1 of the best players in the AL so but im not sure but i think i would have agreed to this trade.

No Salty isn't worth those two players of course Hamilton is amazing but it would favor the Rangers (IMO)

molina/doumit/laird/insert any catcher other than zaun/ zaun.

thats would be great. i think they need to get doumit. he seems like he has power andf average.

I say, bring him in! Why shouldnt we get somebody who's willing to work his ass off to play for a team who's in contention to the playoffs? He wants to work to be the starter, idk about anybody else, but I sure havent seen that from any of our catchers. The willingness! I think we should try him out to see what he's capable of, and i dont just mean stupid stats. I mean a guy who's playing his ass off and is in with his heart, and to me Zaun sounds like that guy. I see a bunch of people here saying the same as everybody else. What happens if we DO get one of the other guys and they underperform? You guys will just complain that they suck too.

Stark saying the Marlins are still looking for catching help. Thinks Bengie Molina will stay put, but Gerald Laird, Ramon Hernandez, Gregg Zaun, and others are still out there.

We really need to talk to the Rangers. I've read they're shopping Teagarden and Salty also.

its slooooooooooooooooooooooooow

might be all the manny thread... although I have yet to get in it today it never loads so I couldn't tell you how many people are in there
