Just a Rumor...

Featured Replies

Got of the phone with Gabe Sandy (scout for the Marlins) and he told me that someone who am not allowed to name here told him that the Marlins have mettings next week with P.Martinez and Griffey Jr.'s agents...

Now,this does not mean they are coming here or that some type of deal has been made so dont kill me if nothing happens...

It could just be talks to see what it would take to get those guys here....

Lets see what happens....

Pedro has a home here and family and Griffey lives in orlando, both are in the ends of there careers and am sure would rather play close to home....

I'm sure those meetings will end quickly once a price is named by those players.

Speculation from rotoworld agrees somewhat...

The agent for Ken Griffey Jr. said his client is drawing interest from four teams, including the Mariners.

It was reported to be five teams earlier this month. The Rays likely were that additional team before they signed Pat Burrell. The Reds have displayed no interest in bringing him back. Atlanta and Florida still make some sense.

Nice info man!

I'd love to have Griffey the only thing is that he would probably want to start and we have Cody Hermida and Maybin or Mez.

We could probably deal Ross which would put pain in many marlins fans hearts or trade Hermida and if he finally pans out we would look like idiots.

But think about it Cameron Maybin a fututre superstar playing alongside with his childhood idle and mentor Ken Griffey Jr that would be unreal

Platoon Griffey Jr with Hermida in RF?

:mis2

Or just have Griffey start and play Hermida on Jr's many days off. Heck if it's about Griffey playing close to home and people actually think there's something to Hermida's home/away splits, then we can just play Hermida on all the road games.

If Pedro takes a low price and is willing to work from the bullpen, then I'm fine with him coming in.

But there both Lefties who struggle vs LHP

Would like to see him platoon with Cody but Cody desrves a chance to start full time.

I want to have him but i don't see it happening

Hermida doesn't have problems with LHP but it does not make sense to platoon two lefties.

Considering Griffey's RHP splits from the past several years (Which is in the upper .800's), a platoon with Cody would be good. Cody would still get a lot of days against RHP considering Griffey's need to rest. And if any of the three of Cody/Maybin/Hermida blow, then we have a good option.

LOL...Griffey.

No thanks.

Him and Cody combined would put up atleast an upper.800 OPS combined...most likely over .900

So why no?

If we're gonna spend 3-4 million on someone, I'd rather it not be on a platoon OF'er.

Plus, there's a difference between the nice hitters parks he played in, compared to Dolphin Stadium. Those people who complain about Hermida would have a fun time with Griffey. I mean, after all, Hermida was terrible last year according to some  ...Griffey had an OPS+ of 101, playing half his games in Cincinnati / Chicago. As a matter of fact, he had an OPS+ of 97 (below average) on the road.

There are better options, and I hope these rumors go away soon. Griffey...Cabrera...bah. If we're gonna spend on someone, save it for a guy who could actually fill more of a team need. (Pudge)

When they meet...not only will Loria scoff at the prices for these free agents, but he will demand that they pay the lunch bill too

:lol

Right now our projected payroll will be in the low 30's. We can fit both Griffey and Pudge in.

And again it's not about total OPS, it's about a platoon. Griffey has been horrible against LHP the past few years while he has crushed RHP. Yes his OPS will drop going from Cincinnati to Dolphin Stadium, but platooning him and Cody upgrades our OF and gives us insurance incase somebody goes down.

I keep trying to figure where all these roster spots are coming from? Griffey is a platoon player, Pedro I doubt can pitch every five days. I guess you can make the argument at least with Pedro if he lasts to the ASG someone in AA or AAA will be ready, but Griffey, and I love both guys, makes very little sense to me.

I reserve the right to be 100% wrong but it's hard to get your arms around not just one of the them, but both of them on this team.

Josh Friedman tonight said what I've been saying for awhile.

If you're going to give Jay Gibbons a chance...why not Barry Bonds? I think it's a joke that one of the best hitters of all-time isn't even getting a chance, when he's willing to play for the minimum.

our bench options right now are

Andino

Amezaga

Emilio

Helms

Dallas

Back up C

Emilio can be put in AAA, so that leaves 5 spots. Considering Andino and Alfredo are the same players, I'd assume Andino would be the first to go. IMO brining in Emilio essentially said this is the end of Andino's tenure.

This would then give our bench

Alfredo

Helms

Dallas

Back up C

Cody/Griffey

With Emilio being the 26th man, coming up when anybody is injured/sent down.

You're also looking at things like Gaby not winning the 1B job and being in the minors or jettisoning Dallas.

Pedro certainly also makes things grr in that we'd most likely lose DLC. And I really really do not want to lose DLC.

Other option would be Kensing or Proctor (pleaseeeee be a split contract). Really not much room to move with in our bullpen, but another starter would help us a lot.

How is everybody here so positive and excited at the idea of Garrett Anderson, but Griffey, who brings ALL of the same things to the table, makes no sense?

At this point, I'm just excited that the wheels are spinning on some things. Chad Corderro, Orlando Cabrera, Pedro Martinez, Pudge Rodriguez, Ken Griffey Jr....

There has to be some truth to some of these. You've got to believe that with SO many of these good-news rumors going around, the Marlins are looking to make some impact moves.

I heard that too. But there is a huge difference between a nobody like Gibbons and Barry Bonds when it comes to steroids backlash.

That said, as a noted Bonds hater, I'd take him on my team in a heartbeat.

Cody also said that probably 75% of the guys on the team would want bonds.

BS more like one of them tested positive and had no way around it...
