February 16, 200917 yr Pudge mentions the Marlins as one of the teams trying to sign him, the others being the Astros and Mets. Do you guys think I-Rod will play for the Fish this season?
February 16, 200917 yr Unless he really wants to come back to Florida, the minute any of those teams offer him more than we can he is gone.
February 16, 200917 yr He lives here. His old family (read, kids) is here. His new family is here. It's a state with no income tax, there are worse situations in the world for a guy that is otherwise not particularly employable (until some team loses their front line or backup catcher). The Marlins have to be taking a hard look at Rabelo as we speak and it won't take long for them to form enough of an opinion about his health (the overriding issue in my mind after getting so banged up last season) to talk in earnest with Pudge or let it go.
February 16, 200917 yr I really want Pudge back, the guy is a leader and Baker would learn so much from him,Also on Bakers days off who else would you want back there calling pitches...
February 16, 200917 yr The fact that no one else has signed him does bode well, since it seems like no one else is giving him what he wants yet, and no one seems to need him bad enough to give in. Hopefully if he decides to concede some of what he wants to compromise on a deal somewhere then he will decide to do it here. Hopefully.
February 16, 200917 yr I believe the marlins will blow it on this one...Pudge should have been signed by now. I mean how can we let him go to NY? Astros wouldnt be too bad i guess... But still he should be here, he belongs here, pudge would be a great addition. OPEN THE CHECKBOOK DAMN IT! Wont regret it.

Pudge isn't that great anymore. As a matter of fact, after last year, some might say he's not even average anymore.

I agree, Pudge put up probably the worst numbers of his career last season and he's still wanting tthe big bucs. I doub he sign's with the Muts and didn't teh stros sign 2 other catchers this offseason? He should comeback here because one his family is here and he's played here before and he knows we love him and he won't get shot in the back by our FO if he's playing below average.
February 16, 200917 yr To say Pudge couldn't still have an impact on a team is crazy. Agree... This guy will have better numbers this year than Baker, BOOK IT! And to be honest I dont even want us to sign him for offense! I want his knowledge behind the plate with our staff
February 17, 200917 yr To say Pudge couldn't still have an impact on a team is crazy. No one said he wouldn't have an impact...just stating the facts. He's not anywhere near the catcher he used to be. It's the reason why he won't even start if he comes here.

Can he maintain it through an entire season, would be a different question

Winter Ball doesn't usually translate like that to MLB's regular season, however. Much tougher competition, night in/night out.

However the reports i saw said defensively he was his old dazzling self with the shotgun arm

Baker and Pudge splitting games would = nice production from the catcher's slot.
February 17, 200917 yr If pudge knows like I do he wont sign for the Stro's. The only good thing about that is he can boost his numbers in that crazy ass park we got and inflate his value more than it really will be but then again thats what Tejada thought too.
February 17, 200917 yr Author I'm really hoping that the Marlins sign Pudge. If they do, though, it would need to happen ASAP because he would need to get used to our pitchers and our pitchers would need to get used to him. If we sign him soon, he would be a great addition to the team and make our pitchers, or catchers, and the Marlins overall, better.
