Nolasco to AAA

Featured Replies

i honestly fully expected ricky to get sent down and i mentioned that in the game thread......he is just not the same guy.

calling up leroux makes no sense to me like....i expect to see de aza back up soon. also i really think christian martinez has some good talent and could start even though he gave up that reynolds home run.

The Marlins had no choice with Nolasco sporting a 9.07 ERA. This season is starting to sink as the rotation was supposed to be a team strength. Hopefully some of the kids step up soon or another fire sale could be in the near future.

Sucks for Nolasco but thats the way its gotta be. If we ever want him to become his former self, which I still think is possible, he's gotta rehab his confidence in AAA.

I'm not surprised that he was sent down after the past few games but if you'd told before this season started, following his triple A starts that he'd be where he is now, I would not have believed you. I just don't understand what happened to him or to our starting rotation. The only pitchers I was worried about coming into this season was Miller and Sanchez, and the latter not too much. I agree with those who wrote that our rotation was supposed to be a strength this season and all but two of our pitchers have either been injured or completely broken down. Its stunning how quickly and how far we've fallen.

I understand the payroll restrictions the marlins operate under but it bothered me this off season that we did not attempt to resign arthur rhodes , who ended up signing a 2 year 4 million dollars deal , or Joe Nelson who was willing to come back if we would have have raised our offer by 200k . Neither men are great pitchers but have shown themselves to be solid relievers . With the Marlins payroll to be a success every thing from the health of the starting pitching, the patchwork of triple A and journey man relievers , and young talented position players must click to work . if any element of that equation fails we dont have the depth in the minors(aa- aaa) and are not committed to paying major league players to acquire that depth to overcome adversity.

We did and he declined it. I still believe there was some "tom-foolery" going on at those Vegas meetings.

Peavy isn't unthinkable though. The issue is that he would be somebody you trade for at the start of the year, eat his big contract for that season, than trade him at the end, getting worse specs in return but having an bonafide ace for a season.

The problem is his no trade clause means that 1) he'd have to want to come here 2) it limits our trade options after the season.

He's also somebody that we'd only be able to handle of the rest of our payroll is down. This year we might be able to pull it off, but there's no way we can have him on the books next year, teams will also understand that, equals even less value for us in return.

I think starting next year our payroll may be surprising to those on here. Cash in = cash out. That's been the FO's logo for some time now. I think season ticket packages have been on the rise since the new pond got the go ahead. And will continue to rise once ground is broken. I haven't asked my sales rep if this is true, but I do know he is buying a boat from a friend of mine. That has to be a good sign. But I will ask him next time I see him.

We are only going to be a middle of the pack type payroll no matter what happens. That much has been drilled to us over and over. I just happen to think it will be sooner rather than later.

Then you have to think of the guys that are under playing their contracts to date. Uggla and his $5.35 mil for one. Jeremy and his $2.25 mil. Cody and his $2.225 mil. KC is paying most of Gload's $1.8 mil for this year but is on the books to make a base of $2.6 mil next year if we keep him, and I believe (but not sure) we are on the hook for that.

Not really saying anything here other than stating we can't afford any particular player for next year may just be thinking inside the box.

I agree 100% with the decision to send Nolasco to AAA, he has been awful. It could also be a kick up the backside to other slumping players we have that their roster spot is not safe as not many would of thought the Opening Day starter would be in the minors less than a couple of months into the season.

Looking forward to seeing West although if he gets shelled then it will be yet another guy who comes up and gets their confidence battered. At least this guy has potential unlike Koronka or Taylor. I wouldn't mind seeing us pay about $3m for Paul Byrd. Ok he isn't great but he could be a steady option in the rotation and would allow more of our young arms to develop properly in the minors instead of getting rushed up.

Final thought, Coghlan really has to be taken out of the lineup and sent back down to continue his development. He has been clearly overmatched at this level and is serving no use on the team.

I have a different perspective of Nolasco being demoted. It entirely denotes a failure in coaching! Nolasco went from Ace to waste in one off season. Most of you know that I have always viewed JJ as the Ace of the rotaion and that l have before debated that fully. I imagined a drop-off in regards to Ricky was always possible. However this is totally absurd. The aspect that he pretty much is fully healthy indicates that it has gotten to his head. I hace seen this trend trend with young Marlin pitching before...Anyone remember Tank? I think its time to look at the pitching coach, bullpen coach and start making some necessary adjustments...It's either that or get a Santero to start doing some "DESPOJOS"! If anyone sees someone blowing smoke with a cigar and all dressed in white in Lil Havana plz bring him to the staduim with you next time you come to a game!

Looks like I've been saying the truth this whole time about this front office huh? They are terrible! These guys are all frauds! Admin Beinfest is a joke! People credit him so much for us winning in 2003 but honestly other then Dontrelle what else did he do?

He had Cabrera, and that was thanks to Dombrowski! Dave really built that team, and they just added pudge, and a couple of guys like JP who we got to replace Preston Wilson because JP would be cheaper, and it turned out well.

They had a lot of luck with a good system left for them, and what they have done ever since is tear it apart! Limb by Limb, and peice by peice, and people now wonder why is it that everyone we bring up sucks!? Because we keep turning over the line up every year or every other year once guys get "expensive."

This is called "Rebuild mode" we are on it to expect to be better then this is a simple joke! Uggla, and Cantu will both be gone soon, as will Ross, and anyone making serious cash, and they will keep getting younger, and younger, and with how piss poor this pitching is don't be shocked if they listen for a trade for Hanley.

We have like 120 SS in our system afterall...

And these guys are on another level when it comes to stupid!

I want to congratulate you on being the worst poster right now on this forum. The worst. And that's saying something because there's quite a bit of competition.

Poor ricky, i mean he really got off to a bad start.

but i think he will find his form in AAA.

Im not saying he's going to be as dominant as he was in the second half of last season.

But he will come back strong.

this is the worst type of internet sports forum post -- the athlete goes blameless, and the coaches are the reason, as if this is a video game and Wiley or Fredi is holding the controller.

Don't blame the 26 year old professional athlete who won 15 games last year, blame the coaches like they screwed him.

When the Heat won 15 games two years after winning the title, did Pat Riley become a worse coach all of a sudden?

Lane if it was just Nolasco alone, you would have a valid argument however either we have the worse assortments of athletes going through our pitching staff or something isn't quite right in the training and conditioning program under Wiley's watch. It is just happening too frequently with our young pitchers. BTW Lane comparing Wiley as a pitching coach to Pat Riley President of the Miami Heat is just too weird dude Next time try a comparison that makes sense...John Farrell, Rick Honeycutt or Curt Young

On the topic of West, Andy Gonzalez was DFA'd and outrighted to AAA to make room on the 40 man. Great spring, but has really struggled in NOLA (.202 AVG, .572 OPS)

Wow. I thought this was a joke, at first.

Then again, I shouldn't be too shocked; he's been trash this year.

I meant Riley was the same coach that won the title and won 15 total games 2 years later

I am not a Fredi fan, but I think it's such a cliche and cop out to blame the coaches for players' failures. In other words, were you praising Fredi last year for Nolasco pitching great? No one was starting theeads that say "That Fredi sure knows how to manage, Nolasco is having a great year!". The hitting coach sure is smart when it comes to Hanley, too bad he's a moron with Uggla.... uhh, no. The players have to play the games.

The players have to play, but what is Wiley's job as you see it? His job is not just to walk to the mound before Fredi decides to pull a pitcher out the game

As much as our pitching staff was projected to be great, all our guys are young and were not established. They all showed flashes of brilliance, some more often than other, some for an entire season, but only for a season or so, so perhaps a bit of tempered expectations should have been made.

Nolasco struggled in the beginning of last year too. He improved, greatly, in the second half, but you want your ace, heck, even your two or third spot guys to be consistent through the entire year. I didn't/don't want the Marlins to be "throwing away" games in April and May to get Ricky "warmed up." Hopefully, Ricky pulls it together and comes back this year, and more importantly, we don't go through this again next year.
