Its hard to be a marlins fan

Featured Replies

Its hard to be a marlins fan.

i mean really, think about it.

lowest payroll in the league, playing in a football stadium with orange seats, changing names every year (in 2010 there will probably be a new stadium name)

i went to the game today, and just, made me sad (besides the loss)

-i was covered by ny fans, i had them in front of me, i had them behind me, i had them to my left, i had them to my right.

Where the hell are we...ny? they owned us tonight, it was basically a home game for the yanks. lets go yanks chants, blue pinstripe shirts/jerseys every where.

Andy F'N Pettite doubled!!!

-This team blows, it really does.

There are so many holes, so many holes.

No freakin way this team makes the playoffs unless some upgrades are made (which they wont)

Since im one of the 50 true loyal marlin fans, i'll still watch and cheer, but this team, the 09 version, depresses me. Even our star player doesnt look happy to be here.

I hope the world doesnt end in 2012 so we can have our stadium, and watch our payroll go up, and have a winning team, not just for one season, but a true contender.

If you're so upset about how hard it is being a Marlin fan, why don't you just become a Yankee fan? Being a Yankee fan is easy.

Tissue, anyone?

yup i need a tissue cuz i got an issue.

i mean i know its just a game, im not gonna kill myself over baseball.

but im a die-hard fan of the game...and to root for this frikin team?

blah...anybody who says this team is fine the way it is, must be ok missing the playoffs again.

i rather root for the pirates than the yankees.

i would never root for the yankees.

never.

It's really not that hard. Yes, we have the lowest payroll in the league. So what? We're still better than a bunch of team out there, we get lucky enough to have one of the best players in baseball (and to say he doesn't want to be here is also ridiculous), and yeah, we might not make the playoffs (we're not out of it at all though), but most teams don't make the playoffs. OMG A PITCHER DOUBLED!!! Big deal. We're getting a new stadium. We just won a WS 5 years ago.

You call yourself "one of 50 loyal Marlins fans". bulls***.

It's hard to be a Pirates fan. It's hard to be a Nationals fan. It's hard to be a Padres fan. Hell, it's hard to be an A's fan. At least we know we'll still be here in a few years.

Tissue, anyone?

Or the world's smallest violin?

Or maybe he'd like some cheese.

1997. 2003. Hanley Ramirez. Waaaaaaah.

ok i know about the two rings, and atleast we are not the pirates or mariners or royals or nats etc.

but still, i mean, look at us?

2 rings, but then the 2 fire sales.

and again, we dont even have a stadium! and the stadium we do play in? always covered up when the phillies come down, or the mets, or the yanks, or the red sox.

and even when those teams arent here, we have a fantastic average of attendence right?

freakin always around 15,000 or less.

1. Ok ya we are better than a lot of teams, but not the majority, we are more on the bottom half.

2. maybe the hanley comment was a little crazy, i'll give you that.

3. ya most teams dont make the playoffs, but let me ask you something, can you really see THIS team, in the playoffs?

4. ok sorry bout the pitcher getting a double, but its freakin petitte! and my bro (yank fan) even called it...it

just pissed me off.

5. I am a loyal marlins fan, im always keepin track of the team, and i would never leave the team, but they are a

frustrating bunch, i mean really? emilio bonifacio?

6. But yes, your right, atleast its not the nats, etc.

For the record, I wasn't saying that you're not a loyal fan, I would never say that to anyone who regularly posts here. I was calling bulls*** on "50 loyal fans". And yes, we have holes, but do we really have "so many holes"? I think not. Is the rest of our lineup not named Bonifacio really that bad?

And yeah, I could see THIS team making the playoffs. I'm not saying we will, but we've been hugely underperforming and we're still in the race.

--ok ya your right there are more than 50 loyal fans, but you have to agree with me that there is a low number, i

mean this is a bandwagon kinda place.

--Dan Uggla, i used to love the guy (no homo) but im kind of tired of him, i mean he's hitting like .216

--Nobody to play 3rd base (boni sux, helms is better off the bench, why not try coghlan?)

--Ross, im a fan of his, and ya he's a starter here, but i dont know if he's a starter on a top contender kind of

team

--Hermida, im not even going to get into it, i, :sigh: im just going to leave it there.

--It just feels like our who outfield is just, a hole.

--Our pitching was supossed to be a strength, and ya the injuries have hurt, but i mean, look at ricky?

and the bullpen, pinto kinda stinks, please, burke badenhop? and think of some of the guys we brought up...taylor?

Davidson?

West i dont know if he's ready, Coghlan will be ok with time, lindstrom i believe next year will be more dominant.

Need a new hitting coach, and fredi, eh im not the biggest fan, he's OK i guess, doesnt kno how to handle the BP tho

--This team isnt making the playoffs, i got money on it. If they do, hallejuah.

I really don't feel that bad about losing to one of the best teams in baseball. I find it easy to be a fan we have some exciting players were only a few games out and the rest of our div isn't playing great and have holes like us. The mets players are all jumping on the dl plus one of their main pitchers they just signed has forgotten where the plate is. The phillies star ss is hitting in the low 200s I believe, plus they lost myers for the season. Not to mention ibaneaz just went on the dl.

Yes, it's been extremely depressing only winning two World Series in past twelve years.

I couldn't imagine what you would be saying if you were a Nats fan.

We are a middle of the pack sorta team. Is that great? No. But it ain't bad either. It means we may not make the playoffs, but we are usually in the thick of it until the final month or so. And frankly, even if we doubled our payroll, we'd still be middle of the pack because of teams like NYM, Phillies in the NL, NYY and Boston in the AL, even the Cubs and the Dodgers, who can afford not only to sign the big players, but keep them around for a long time so that everyone starts to "expect" them to be contenders.

I am happy with the team (and yes, the ownership/FO) that seems, in general, to want to field a talented team (unlike the Pirates and the Nats) and are willing to make the moves if necessary.

As far as NYY fans in the stands, that happens in every town. They complain about it in Baltimore.

Sorry, after reading this post, I have a hard time believing you're a "die hard" fan.

Yes, it's been extremely depressing only winning two World Series in past twelve years.

Or a Cubs fan

Yup. It's the same thing everywhere. Go to a game in any city where the Yankees, Red Sox, or Cubs are the road team and the place is always overrun by their fans. Just the way it is.

It's not going to get any better here until our season ticket base increases. It'll be better in our own stadium, but as long as we have people from up north moving to South Florida, we'll never get rid of them completely.

The team isn't gonna make the playoffs this year but they are good enough to play king maker/spoiler and really that is all you should hope for, the best teams on paper often fail to make the playoffs in baseball. Overall, being a Marlin fan is a pretty sweet deal, Marlins are far and away the best sports franchise in South Florida.

I admit, this is just not our year, why do we have a love affair with AA players? untill we spend some money the marlins are just going to be a regular .500 team

Exactly. Or look at Boston. They had the best, most knowedgeable, enthusiastic fans yet they had to endure the futility and humiliation of the Curse of the Bambino for 80+ years. (unfortunately now that they are successful they've become annoying).

I know this team is frustrating but come on...there's no crying in baseball.

This guy was obviously not around in 1999. At least with this team we can start to see the pieces to build around and the guys who are expendable. In 1999, there really seemed like no hope at all, no plan, no purpose.
