Here's hoping the Marlins score a run to fall short a run, so that move comes back to haunt us a little more. Hopefully the entire front office saw it. That's the stupidest "managerial" move I've seen in awhile.

I mean, 1 of the 2 .800+ .OPS hitters this team has this year has been hitting in the bottom of the order, basically, all year.

A hitter failing in a sport where he's considered good if he goes up 10x and misses 7 is understandable.

Intentionally walking a career .620 .OPS hitter is borderline retarded.

It's not Fredy's fault players can't hit in key situations. You got to stop ripping the manager for thinks he can't control, that is just the easy way to make you feel better about your team "go for the manager". If you think about it we would have not tied in the 8th if it wasn't for Fredy's pinch hit moves.

I thought Utley shouldve been walked, but whatever someone thought else wise and it bit him in the ass, just like every other move he makes. This team is ridiculous and going down hill fast, and a major part of that is Fredi's managerial decisions.

I'm not fed up with our manager, more our mediocre offense and their inability so do the little things necessary to win a game like this. Meanwhile, there are still people on this board who don't understand why there's even a problem!

 

I'm ready to blow up the ship. Trade everyone. Except for Cody because he is fun. It's not like these guys are gonna suddenly stop doing the things they've been doing the last 3.5 years and transform into a playoff team, which we never were even with guys like Cabrera and Willingham (post-2005 I mean), much less without them.

 

If we could deal just one of our all-or-nothing hitters in a package to get a legitimate hitter in here, we'd be in business. But I haven't heard of any legitimate hitters on the market.

 

Let's face it, the salary is gonna force us to blow this team up anyway. We're never gonna make the playoffs in Johnson's time with us if we don't gave some serious structural changes to our team's make-up. The guys deserve a pat on the back for playing somewhat entertaining .500 ball the last two years, but that is all they are ever gonna be.

Not only was walking Paul Bako to pitch to an All Star simply retarded, but I couldn't also help but notice the Phillies didn't use all their bench players and were forced to pinch hit A GOD DAMN PITCHER in a key situation with men on base....

 

Fredi's incompetence is reflected by his team. When we shed some of these players in salary dump moves, and you see them perform better on other teams, maybe then you'll realize what the real problem is.

Did you guys defending Fredi not see the top of the 12th inning? He walked Bako and pitched to Worth. What could possibly be dumber than that?

Granted, I didn't watch the game, and am only reading about it in the box score, but I don't think walking Bako was a dumb move. Maybe not the smartest move, but that's what happens in hindsight. It's not like Werth is lightyears a better player than Bako, going from a Brett Carroll type of player to a Hanley type (to compare to us). And he wasn't moving someone into scoring position, they were already there. Fredi was probably thinking that since first base is open and we aren't known for our stellar defense, better to give the fielders two options for an out rather than one. That being said, pitching to Bako would have made more sense, but it wasn't totally a bonehead idea to IBB him. Maybe 50% boneheaded.

 

That being said, I don't think he cost us the game, yes, despite Werth driving in the one run. Hopper had two strikes on Werth. Werth singled to score a run from second. Any number of different things could have happened to get Werth out or hold Utley at 3rd. It didn't.

 

Now, if Fredi said to walk Bako to get to Howard or Utley, that would be mindboggingly dumb.

Considering I couldn't watch this game I really don't want to rip on fredi but walking a back up player to get to an all star in werth is dumb. Also I was kinda following this game on my touch and saw at one point late in the game we had 2 on, no out, with cantu up and didn't bunt and then I think Cody hit into a dp to end the inning. Not sure how cantu got out but all I hear from this manager and FO is small ball and the little things like moving guys over, so where was it. I've seen this happen more than once where bunting would be great.

There's no doubt that there will be another major purge of players at the end of the season. Herm, Uggla are all gone. Too expensive. Cantu and Ross maybe gone also. Too inconsistent play.

The purge should come now. We don't have to give guys away or even give up on the season. But we do need to exchange some of these all-or-nothing hitters with guys who know what they're doing.

But we are forgetting that the Marlins were already down a run. Just because we scored a run in the bottom half, without even a single hit, doesn't mean that we forget that we were already behind the 8-ball at that point. Fredi didn't lose the game, we were already losing the game at that point.

Let's put it this way. Paul Bako has a .267 OBP. In other words, there is a 26.7% chance he does something productive. Jayson Werth has a .367 OBP. In other words, there is a 36.7% chance he does something.

 

Fredi basically increased the phillies chance of scoring a run by 10%.

I agree. It is idiotic and perhaps Fredi outthinking himself (if the rationale was get an out at 3 bases).

 

But I don't think it cost us the game, because that is only looking at the final score and none of the context of how we lost. It was just one tick mark in a list of things that went wrong. It didn't help, at all, but it wasn't the only reason we lost.
