September 26, 200916 yr Friends, if we go Orange and Black, will we not look like the Orioles? And Halloween? If we go Orange and black we will look just like the Giants and the Orioles, and yes Halloween. Hell, we should just go red! Tommy Hutton answered an email the other night regarding seat and team color. He said that no other baseball team has that "sea blue" color. Maybe I am color blind, but I thought I saw the very same color seats in the Blue Jays stadium, and the Rays stadium. The darker teal that were in the earlier rendings seemed to be fine. It wasn't to pastel or bright, and easy to look at. And as far as Teal being an unmarketable color, I guess then the Dolphins stuff doesn't or never sold well?? As you can see there are differences in the types of Blue. However, I also disagree with Sampson and Loria. I think the Teal or some version of it, should be used instead of blue. There are many temas that use blue in many sports and it is too common. The teal has a definate miami/ south florida feel to it and is a very unique color. They are missing the big picture and looking to much at the project as some type of abstract art work. They need to do what they did in St. Louis and listen to the fans/costumers who are paying for it and lose their ego's. I cant help responding to this topic. Eventhough there are other important topics to discuss about the team.... If sea blue seats are going to be the color, then hopefully it will match the sea blue color that is on that example and not the royal or cobalt blue that they keep trying to say is the best color.
March 2, 201016 yr I like the Teal Seats I think they look sharp. Also it feels the color of the seats make it more of a home field. Can not wait for the new stadium to open. Go Marlins!
March 5, 201016 yr I think the teal seats look great, especially against the white, and the Miami skyline. I think that the WORST thing they could do would be to remove teal from our colors. I mean, I understand the move to more black and silver, but I like a little teal in there, to pay homage back to the 90's. Personally my favorite uniforms were the teal pinstripes. But the thing is, they are already changing their name, and as a result the iconic F will be no longer, so I don't think I could stand it if I had to deal with the Miami Marlins in orange, black, and silver. Too much change. I feel it is disrespectful to our history.
March 5, 201016 yr Teal isn't gonna happen, And I, for one, think Marlins fans should stop bitching about it. For all I care, the seats could be hot pink and magenta, as long as the seats are comfortable and the seats are in South Florida, as opposed to Las Vegas.
March 23, 201016 yr I like the teal, but think it should go. They need to make all aspects of this team more attractive to new fans. Teal is just not one of those mass appeal colors. And although I will wear teal in 2012 and beyond, I completely agree and understand their choice to get rid of it. I'm sorry but I don't think the colors are what have been putting fans off. Try 90º heat and killer humidity, rain on a regular basis and two post-championship fire sales. That and a market filled with people from out of town who were already supporting other teams when the Fish came into existence. But we all know that already. Teal may not be a "mass appeal" color, but the Marlins aren't a mass appeal team. There's plenty of blue, red, orange, etc. in baseball. There is only one teal and black. If they asked season ticket holders and other fans what they thought, and more people said lose the teal than said keep it, fine, I could live with the change. But to not consult the customer at all and then erase a part of a team's, and community's, identity is wrong. More often than not, when teams rebrand they consult their fans via market research. I have a feeling the Marlins new look is simply gonna be Jeffrey's way or the highway, and that's an unsettling scenario. Teal is likely going away simply because he doesn't like the color. Mr. Loria may legally own this team, but we do too. There are tens of thousands of South Floridians who have invested more emotionally in this team then he ever will, and we're the ones buying the tickets. He's in this to make money. He wasn't there when I and many other South Florida kids were seeing their first MLB game at Joe Robbie Stadium in 1993. He wasn't there in 1997 when this town was painted teal and black in honor of our champions. He got us a ballpark, and cemented the future of baseball in South Florida for decades to come, and I'm forever grateful for that. I just hope that future lasts long enough for someone else to step in and correct whatever mistakes he has made by the end of his tenure as owner. I'm all for a change when something is bad. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Marlins colors, never has been, and I don't intend to let the whims of the team owner take them away without a fight.
March 23, 201016 yr Teal may not be a "mass appeal" color, but the Marlins aren't a mass appeal team. And that's the problem.
March 23, 201016 yr Teal may not be a "mass appeal" color, but the Marlins aren't a mass appeal team. And that's the problem. They don't need to be "mass appeal". They need to appeal to fans in South Florida. People will buy stuff regardless of what color it is. I'm not saying they need to sell all teal shirts and caps, obviously people wouldn't buy a lot of that because the only place you'd probably wear it is the ballpark. But teal is a South Florida color and it works well. The look they had from 97-2002, black first, teal second, is the perfect mix to give the team a local flavor without going over the top with color. Bottom line is if the team is respectable on the field, people will support the team and buy stuff. Heck, the Dolphins always rank near the top in nationwide NFL merch sales and they haven't been a powerhouse team in quite some time. And their aqua/orange combo about as unusual and niche as you can get. They will most likely become marlins fans (or they are grounded). Haha nice. I agree I'll still love the team, and probably buy the gear whatever it looks like. But I obviously love my teal and if it changes, I will always long for the day it returns.
March 24, 201016 yr Well shoot, i know second hand authentic Marlins jerseys are hard to come by. Atleast the new set for sure. You look on this board and there seems to be a good deal of fans outside the state, which doesnt do anything for ticket sells but still the Marlins have a fanbase outside the market, i just wish it could help the picture in Miami.

They don't need to be a good team for people to buy their merchandise. Case and point the Washington Nationals. They've always sucked, and I still see people on the streets, rappers on tv, etc. wearing the stupid curly "W" hat because it's simple and has mass appeal. I like the teal, but fact is most people don't and that's why It's not often you'll run into someone wearing Marlins attire outside of Hialeah.

Seriously, I asked a guy at Foot Locker why they only had Yankees and Nationals hats. He said the Nationals hats sell like crazy. It was the weird W one. Ok. The colors they have now are good. The only thing that should be changed is the pinstripes. Anything that reminds people of the Yankees shall be removed. Also teal fans are most likely going to have to live with the dark blue seats. In the AC, the dark seats may seem cool. Also, more people will buy merchandise when the name Miami is on there. Florida is kind of dorky.
March 27, 201016 yr Teal is not a good selling color. I like it better with the black and gray with the little bit of blue.
March 28, 201016 yr I think part of the reason you don't see more Marlins hats on the street is because it isn't a good hat. I like the "F logo" but I think it only works as a patch or a generic logo on other merchandise. It's just not a good logo for a hat. It's too complicated and has too much stitching. I bet you don't see too many people wearing Blue Jays or Orioles hats either.
March 28, 201016 yr I raise my hand for someone that wears the Marlins and both blue jays hats. I have seen orioles hats up this way since we relatively close to Baltimore.
March 29, 201016 yr Was anyone watching the game last night when they showed sketches of the new ball park? To me it looked like the seats were teal, which I know had to be wrong from the other renderings we've seen. Wasn't quite sure what was going on with that. The last rendering of seats were blue. They were blue at groundbreaking, and blue on the latest renderings on the website. I think you are refering to the painting that was shown on the left field wall. I just sent Mr. Samson an email with a link to this thread. I agree keep the Marlins teal.
March 29, 201016 yr i agree with most everyone else, we need to keep the teal..its something that sets us apart from pretty much every other team. the teal seats would look great in the new stadium, the PS'd pics on page one look amazing.

We need FANS LIKE THIS to lead a Teal-As-The-Team-Color Petition!!
April 3, 201016 yr i hope we keep at least a little bit of teal on the uniforms but i'm with the ownership when it comes to the seats. teal seats don't look good
April 30, 201016 yr Just another observation on the subject of the team's colors in the future. Take a look and the MLB.com home page and put your mouse over the "MLB Sites" link at the top to see all the teams. Look at that. 30 Teams and only 4 main colors. Blue, Black, Red and Green(Kudos to Oakland for being different). I give you black doesn't really count but look at how bland that list looks. Baseball uniforms are boring enough, the last thing we need is the Marlins likely becoming another primarily blue team, especially when they now have one of few truly unique color schemes in the majors. Ideally I'd love to see an outlandish, 70s A's style colored alternate jersey(teal of course), but I'd settle for the '97 look, only updated and with the new Miami name. Right now we are basically a grayscale team, any color on the uniforms is tough to see unless your standing right next to a player. I really hope the design firm Loria hires to come up with the new logos and uniforms smacks some sense into him and somehow convinces him to keep the teal/black combo, and for his sake before they install 36,000 blue seats in the ballpark. Unless blue is the primary color of the team, and I hope it isn't, those seats will act just like the orange ones at Sun Life, they'll just make poor crowds look worse. Much like the green seats in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Arizona, etc. etc.

I dunno if anyone else has noticed, but I feel like each season the teams colors on the screen (like the "FSN" in FSNsports) has turned more blue and less teal. Same goes for other teal aspects of the team. I think i'll be happy with a lighter, aqua blue. Not baby though, not a fan of baby blue.
May 1, 201016 yr If they are going to add a color, aqua blue has to be it. What better way to represent something close to the Marlin, Water. Just keep orange out of the equation. If the uniforms got to change, I would love to see something like the Carolina Panthers Colors, the Sparkle silver we have now would look great with the aqua blue. I wish i was good with photo editor stuff, i think if some saw the current Marlins jersey with blue instead of teal. It would be outstanding.

But the trick will be not looking like the Rays and to a lesser extent Royals. Maybe adopt a blue and green combo of some sort like the Devil Rays had, which I admit I kinda preffered over their current look. Eventually I'll get over it but still whatever the new colors are, unless it's teal and black, I will be disappointed and very very reluctant to purchase any new gear.
May 2, 201016 yr At least Teal looks better than Orange. If Orange is the alternative, gotta jump into the Teal camp.
