August 6, 200916 yr ill post what i posted a couple of days ago It really is obvious this fo has no interest in winning. They got nick for free just to make the fans not get on them. It's obvious saving money 4 years from now is more important then winning and getting a 5th starter and it shows. A team with an interest in winning fires there awful hitting coach to spark the team. A team that is interested in winning doesn't keep their cf in the minors, and a team who wants to win goes out and gets a fifth starter. This team is going nowhere until all of these things happen What will it take for you to understand that we can't call Maybin up yet? why not? hes obviously ready. it just shows they are willing to lose this entire season to save 1 million $ in a couple years I don't even know why I'm arguing with you since you actually think the FO doesn't want to win, but whatever. First of all, it's likely to be near $3 million, which is could get us a bat, pitcher, etc. in the future. Second, how do you even know that he would be better than one of our current ourfielders? first, if it is 3 million then he would be a great player and with the up rising in payroll it would be ok second, its obvious he would be better then jeremy "i should be a platoon dh" hermida.

Wasn't everybody lauding Nick when we got him. We needed him and it wasn't just a move for move's sake. Yes, we also needed a 5th starter, but that wasn't the only thing we needed and we filled a hole by getting NJ. Saying we got Nick just to avoid fan backlash is insulting to fans and the FO, because it makes it seem like we, the fans, view trades as shiny objects and don't glance at them more than surface deep and that the FO thought so poorly of NJ that they got him just cause. And Maybin ain't going to be the difference maker. I doubt he would have won us the last 3 games. That being said, I have posted that I feel we need a veteran back of the rotation guy that is consistent to combat the inconsistency of Volstad, early season Ricky, and whoever will be the 4th/5th guy. Now, I didn't see the game today, but it seems like the Nats bullpen from earlier in the season time traveled to now and dressed as our pen. Seriously, what's Fredi to do when his reliable arms aren't being that reliable and he has to call up guys like Ayala to pitch in tight games?
August 6, 200916 yr we only have two good player in pitching staff rest should not be big leauge fred not going any were he cost us little that what owner like he gave us high hope and their do this sh*t this team wont make make it post season forget it let see who we have doing next spring traing
August 6, 200916 yr We have 2 very good pitchers, a very inconsistant 3rd pitcher this year, and we still lack a true 4th and 5th starter. Our offense lacks the basic situational hitting needed to manufature runs. Our 3rd baseman is new to the position once again, and shouldn't be blamed when he was thrown into the wolves on a week notice, but that bad defense has obviously hurt this team. We don't have any sort of consistancy in the back of our lineup, and our team really isn't complete at this point. But the fact that some of you after just one series loss are calling for the manager and the coaches head with only 2 months left in the season is laughable. It truely is. We have been on a roll of winning series since we got swept against the Phillies to start the break. The world isn't over after one series loss, considering we play the Phillies, Mets, and Braves a lot more before the season ends. It's amazing how much panic runs through this forum so quickly.

We got swept by the worst team in baseball in August. Fredi isnt a good manager and he never has been. Presley might be the worst hitting coach in MLB. This team has alot of holes.

Seriously, what's Fredi to do when his reliable arms aren't being that reliable and he has to call up guys like Ayala to pitch in tight games? What does that even mean? Anyone knows (looking at a split stat) that the guy that had to be used in that inning (HE WAS IN THE PEN SITTING DOWN...HADN'T BEEN USED) was Dan Meyer. Kiko Calero would've been a better option, as well. Not Luis "I can't get a lefty out" Ayala. That was ridiculous "managing"...don't know who it was...whether it was Tosca's call, or whether it was part of Fredi's gameplan, today. Either way, horrible. Yeah, some of the blame has to go to the players...Volstad didn't pitch well, and we missed some opportunities to score (although, 8 runs should be enough to win a ballgame, as much as the offense is getting criticized today). But the manager and his coaches deserve blame too.
August 6, 200916 yr At this point, I begin to wonder why we even have a hitting coach. This team is so undisciplined.

You say that, but we scored 6 runs in one game and 8 in another. In one game, our ace fell apart very quickly in the 8th and our bullpen, which had been very strong lately, continued to give up runs after our starters fell apart. While one may not agree with some of the decisions Fredi made over the past 3 games and Presley as a hitting coach seems to have the team score is spurts, it is clear that the avalanche was started not because of Fredi, but because our pitching could not keep up with our offense. Those holes, as you say. It is hard to be a good manager when you have to constantly avoid holes.

They have won 9 of their last 13 games (including today). All their hitters are clicking at the right moment, this team is actually very dangerous at the moment. Give credit where credit is due, the Nationals played a hell of a lot better than we did.
August 6, 200916 yr i cannot beleive this actually happened. i knew the nationals were much better but you could just see that the blown first game was the omen of a nightmare series. we blew two huge leads and now we find ourselves 5 games out of the wild card. something has to be done and it needs to be done fast. MINIMUM 2 OF 3 IN PHILLY followed by some excellent play after that. extremely pathetic and discouraging series.
August 6, 200916 yr But I will agree in that Jim Pressley is not a very good hitting coach. It has been said for over a year now that he isn't a very good hitting coach. But blaming Fredi for these losses is ludcrious.
August 6, 200916 yr we will win the series against Philly. This team always seems to rise to the occassion against tougher opponents (e.g Cubs, Dodgers, Braves).
August 6, 200916 yr Pen guys who pitched or warmed up today: Tim Wood Brian Sanches Luis Ayala Brendan Donnelly Renyel Pinto(was warming up in the 8th) Pen guys who didn't move: Matt Lindstrom Kiko Calero Dan Meyer Leo Nunez Yeah, no managing at fault here!

It's the nationals. Those guys who warmed up are paid for a reason. We need our aces saved for the Phillies series. The only thing that was real moronic was Ayala v.s. LHB, the rest, they have to pitch to earn their paycheck.

We need as many guys rested as possibly for when West pitches in the 2nd game of the series, where he may not last long.
August 6, 200916 yr Range factor (RF) = putouts + assists 2009 starting CFs' range factor per game: 2.46 2009 starting RFs' range factor per game: 1.97 Difference: 0.49 So CF is half a play a play more important than RF in the average game yet we put our best outfielder in right and Bonifacio in center in a one run game. Tosca's awesome.

I'm sorry, but when you're in a playoff race and it's a 1-run game in the 7th inning, sending out the bullpen rejects is completely daft.

If Sean West pitches badly, those are the situations where you're better suited wasting guys like Wood, etc. No? Save your best relievers for the tougher spots (like today?) I'd say that makes more sense, what do you think?
