August 20, 200916 yr no other way to put it around hit and run with the worst contact hitter in this team bases loaded and pinch hit a guy that he never plays bullpen well rested and bring in the less reliable lefty and pitcher off the pen

August 20, 200916 yr Umm no. The FLORIDA MARLINS LOST THIS GAME. How many men they leave on base? 15? That's horrific. And we've done it for the second time in 3 effin games.
August 20, 200916 yr i hate fredi but you can't blame him for this game. you can blame the offense for not coming through in clutch situations with men on base (specifically hanley) and you can blame bourn for making 2 great plays on balls hit by cantu that saved several runs but you really can't blame fredi...........this time.

August 20, 200916 yr I'll have to disagree with the thread starter (LOL Freddy Sanchez). No, seriously Fredi didn't leave 16 on base. BTW: Isn't Bonifacio one of the worst at making contact? I could be wrong here, though. Regardless, with that pitch I doubt anybody makes contact.
August 20, 200916 yr Oh, come on. The Marlins left something like 15 or 16 men on base and you make the manager the scapegoat? Hanley has been getting a lot of hits lately to pad his lead for the batting champ but it seems like he hasn't been coming through over the last four games or so. Obviously I can't fault him too much.
August 20, 200916 yr You can't blame Fredi. Marlins lost this game. The only move I didn't like was using Renyol Pinto in the 8th. He has been pretty good, though, so it's understandable.

Blame him when we lose, praise the players when we win. BTW: Not even close. Team average is a K in about every 1 in 4.44 ABs or so. Boni is up around 1 in about 5 on the season, and this month is once in almost every 10 ABs. Continually getting better with his ABs and working the counts.

I've been hearing this since May and his numbers have yet to actually get better. He goes on a little hot streak, someone says "look, he's having better AB", and then he'll have a terrible time where he can't get on base again. I documented this in the other thread. Though, about contact, he's actually better than most on the team at making contact with pitches. He's at 83% contact right now, which is only bested by Gload, Coghlan, and Cantu on the team. Though I'm pretty sure his contact is much better hitting RH (he was hitting LH) but I can't find a split of that.

The offensive numbers that so many put so much sole stock in don't show it because he gets on base in ways that don't show in the stats. Fielders choice or by causing errors. How exactly is he scoring so many runs and not being on base? Those guys behind him that are driving him in are doing an unprecedented job if they are driving him in while he sits on the bench after making an out. It's along the same lines as someone saying he almost hit into a DP twice in that game with the bases loaded. Translated that means he didn't, he beat out the DP's and didn't get credit for getting on base or the ribbies. Sometimes you have to look beyond the numbers. BTW I don't very often go back the following day and see what other posts were made in response to mine. I simply don't have that kind of free time on my hands. My opinions have changed on some things by pretty good contradictory opinions, but this one won't be. Although I'm sure you will give it your best shot again and again at the games. :thumbup

Although I'm sure you will give it your best shot again and again at the games. :thumbup He gets on base in ways that don't show in the stats? A bunt single doesn't go in OBP? His OBP numbers this year have not gotten better at all. From month to month they are basically the same. That's what I meant by not seeing improvement. Yes, he makes contact, but the contact isn't any good. A fielders choice should not be seen as a positive Bob. And yes, he's reached on an infield error a whole 6 times this season. That doesn't even come close to making up for his rediculously bad OBP, which hasn't gotten better at all during the season. How does he have so many runs scored? He had two RBI machines behind him, including the leagues' leading hitter. Think about how Coghlan has 116 less AB and only 15 less runs scored than Boni. Or how CC has only 10 more games in the leadoff spot but has 10 more runs than he does.
August 20, 200916 yr It is obvious Boni has been playing better since we traded for NJ. He's had his share of struggles this season, but I think it is possible he's turned a corner. Give the guy more time. Geez. Some people have so much hate in them.

Give the guy more time. Geez. Some people have so much hate in them. I hope this isn't directed towards me. I don't hate anyone. Hell, I was just defending him in another thread because someone said he had no positives. I'm just being realistic. There is literally a point in every month where someone says "Bonifacio is improving" and then he just regresses back to his mean. I'm not saying he's a useless player, I'm not saying he can never be better, I'm just point out the truth.
