Spring Training 3/8-3/14 Games

Know what I just noticed? Boni has a .429 ST average lol.

Its like the first week of last year... he even hit a HR too!

Yeah, that's not going to continue. He still should be at least decent off the bench though. Maybe.

Notables from today's 16-4 victory over Houston:

Coghlan 2-3 with 2B, 3B and 4 RBI

Bonifacio 2-2 both 2B with a RBI

Stanton 1-5 with a 3 run HR

Uggla 2-3 with 2B, HR and 2 RBI

G. Sanchez 2-4

Carroll 3-4 with 2 2B, HR and 3 RBI

Dominguez 1-1 with RBI

Penn 3 IP 0H 0R 0BB 1K

Volstad 3 IP 6H 4R 1BB 0K 1HR

I was at the game today, Penn looked great! Everything he threw up there looked like it was moving. Volstad looked like crap, the first hit he gave up could have been scored an error, but after that with his giving up the homer, looks like he still needs some work. It was great to see Stanton and Uggla go back to back to with bombs, both no-doubters. Also good to see Coghaln and Gaby get some good swings in too.

How much work will Volstad need??? I know it's early because we just saw Penn light it up but looked like crap his last outing and Volstad hasn't looked good any outing. My concerns right now are 1. Volstad (will he figure it out), 2. Pinto (will anyone take this guy off our hands????), 3. Anibal (needs to be consistent or it's not looking good).

Coghlan's just raking. I think he might have it figured out, Im hopeful of a real good season for him.

Stanton's trying to flash that power.

Sanchez is going for some consistency.

BC is trying to battle to stay in competition.

So far... I like what I see. Anibal, Volstad, and Miller still have quite a bit to go.

I think he had it figured out last year in the second half. You don't just hit .372 in the second half by mistake.

Anyways, anyone got video of that Stanton home run? I'd love to see it.

It was on MLB network when they showed a recap of the game. It was an absolute no-doubter, but this time he pulled it instead of hitting it oppo like before.

Hensley is making a very very strong case to join this team for openning day!! He had a very nice outing today

Hensley 3 inn pitched, 1 hit, 0 runs and 1 K

Johnson solid as always!!

I have no doubt that we will find 3 suitable SP's to follow JJ + Nolasco in the rotation. Every SP except Hensley and Penn have options left, I don't think the FO would have much of a problem starting off the year with Volstad, Anibal, West, RVH or any of the others in the minors if they need to polish their game a bit.

I think Volstad should actually start the season in the minors, and possibly Anibal too if he isn't looking any better.

I agrre I dont think Volstad is ready to come back, I think his rookie year was a bit of luck and lack of scouting on him or lackthereof

I would like to see the rotation fill out as

Johnson, Nolasco, West (if he comes around in spring), hensley and Penn and/or RVH

With Hensley, hes been pithcing great sicne last year but to bring it on this early in spring seems as though he might have a chip on shoulders from not being called up!!

There's still a lot of time to decide all of this. Spring Training isn't close to being over, and then there's the first couple weeks of the season where the team will be going with a 4 man rotation.

To be honest, after JJ and Nolasco, the guy I have the most confidence in is VandenHurk, for some reason. I think that if given the chance, he'd do well.

Nunez just blew a 2-0 lead. Cards now up 3-2

I sure wish the FO had gotten a promising closer over the winter. It costs games to be experimenting with RPs during the season, and ST isn't reliable enough for picking a closer.

Seems like all of Florida is getting rain.

Yeah, seems that way. Up here in Fort Myers, it was thunder and lightning all evening then rained all night and had thunder and lightning again this morning. The roads are absolutely flooded and its STILL raining.

today's lineup

LF Chris Coghlan

CF Emilio Bonifacio

SS Hanley Ramirez

3B Jorge Cantu

2B Dan Uggla

DH Cody Ross

1B Gaby Sanchez

C Ronny Paulino

RF Brett Carroll

Nolasco starting and Miller to follow

Does anyone know if the "B" game was played this morning as a makeup to yesterday's rainout. I see it was scheduled for 10am this morn but can't find anything anywhere about it.

It was played, I only saw info on West so far from it. He walked 7 in 1.2 innings.

From Palm Beach Post:

Meanwhile, the Marlins B team beat the Orioles 6-4 this morning up I-75 in Sarasota — sort of a makeup game to Friday’s rain out.

Lefty Sean West went 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit and three strikeouts but he issued seven (SEVEN) walks. One of those walks came with the bases loaded.

Catcher John Baker returned to action as the designated hitter, going 1 for 3 with 2 RBI.

Mike Stanton went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout and a run.

Yeah i was able to find some stats from it just now

West went 1 2/3 innings 1 hit 3 k's 7 walks...walked in a run

Baker 1 for 3 2RBI

Stanton 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout and a run
