Jai and I really wouldn't say one is better than the other. And I imagine that Boni's speed in the OF would make him a real good defender there.

April 4, 201016 yr Also think it should be noted, we lost De Aza and Raynor this off season to keep Jai and we DFA'd Jai before season starts. Maybe De Aza and Raynor get DFA'd too if we kept them instead, but I've just never been a fan of Jai (He strikes out more than Mike Stanton, without his power).

You have to have 20 or more days of service time in the minor leagues (service time has yet to go into effect) for an option to be used. So we have not used an option yet.

But now I'm thinking that 20 days is a long time of service. So lets say, just for the sake of argument, that we call up Andrew Miller on Thursday... he hasn't lost the option that we used to send him down to AAA with? Interesting.

That said, I do know he burned a few bridges with the Fish at the post-season meetings in 2008 and they might not welcome him back but you have to believe he'd rather be pitching close to his family than not if the opportunity arose. And Calero's spring was brief and may not be ready for MLB yet but he did strikeout more than a batter per inning in his brief stint with the Mets and if he looks objectively at the Marlins' bullpen may determine going to New orleans for a short while could lead to him back in the bigs in no time. Normally I'm not a big devotee of the saying, but "...better the devil you know, than don't know..." seems to fit both players as to it comes to the Marlins. Adding to this is my take on Pinto which is his numbers are really deceiving. I go through them as numbers and I come away saying "Gee this guy isn't as bad I thought, I'm really fooling myself thinking he's a liability", and then I go look at his gamelog and check inherited runners who scored and realize how many times last season he either lost leads, or made an out of reach game tight, or blew a game with a run here, two there, etc. all year long. I would seriously consider moving Pinto to Boston if there was an interest (you need two to tango) for Nelson or Nelson and Jimenez. Just idle speculation.

I'm not trying to make 2009 out to be anything other than what it was, and that was several notches down from 2008. Nonetheless he had a good spring, he can still get lefties out. In that limited context, which is all I was suggesting I think back in the NL with lowered expectations he could be an asset to the ballclub if he were willing to wait his turn in New Orleans which is a lot closer to home than Pawtucket.

Word is that Calero's velocity is down from last year. The Met I would be more interested in who didn't make the cut is Nelson Figueroa, a reliever who has the added bonus of being able to make a start when called upon to do so. He made 10 starts for the Mets last year, even managing to throw one shutout.

Jai and I really wouldn't say one is better than the other. And I imagine that Boni's speed in the OF would make him a real good defender there. I've only seen him play CF, and he did a very fine job there. Barden gets the nod because he has a nice IF glove and can play the OF corners in a pinch. This is actually a pretty nice way to go. It gives us 2 bench OFers and 3 bench IFers (Helms), with Cousins just a phone call away in an emergency. When BC is healthy then Barden becomes the odd man out.
