Posted April 22, 201014 yr I know the Marlins were not going to win every series for the rest of the season, but I didn't want to lose one to the Astros. We really need to avoid being swept tomorrow.
April 22, 201014 yr People keep saying the Astros are a bad team on the gamethread, but they're pretty much a .500 team, overall I bet at the end of the season. First series loss of the year, the important thing is getting this horrendus bullpen fixed, somehow. Why is Minervini interviewing Lindstrom, asking him about all his pitches, like he still plays for the Marlins?
April 22, 201014 yr The bullpen is pretty much annoying me to no end. It seems like there is nothing that we can do right when it comes to the bullpen, even when we use the right player.
April 22, 201014 yr I like Fredi and think he and Tosca are capable managers but in my mind I keep seeing 2003 all over again. Â Which may be a good thing.
April 22, 201014 yr we lost series we should have won now get win see how we do to team kick us round alot Rockies

April 22, 201014 yr Well this loss stinks. We need a Bullpen or this will be a long season. They can not continue to lose leads.. AHHHH!!!!

April 22, 201014 yr aaahhh. the bullpen sucks so much. badenhop is usually reliable so i'll give him a pass. and nunez has been lights out so far in the season. but the rest of the pen is pure garbage. some sort of change needs to happen and quick
April 22, 201014 yr To me, I'd cycle out managers every couple of years almost regardless of their performance. It just seems to me there's only so much someone can teach a generation of players for a few years, before you bring in someone else that can really spark up and teach them things they didn't know. I mean, I guess they brought in the new pitching coach, but do you stop there? Sometimes I just think you need to rile the team up and get them going again. I think we've all seen what the marlins are capable of, if someone could just motivate or teach them how to play to their best potential everyday, and cut down on these mediocre performances (defense specially) we could win the division. I don't particularly hate Fredi like some people do. But I wouldn't be against him getting replaced. I think we've been on the cusps of something great for the past 2 years now. Just need something to get over the hump.
April 22, 201014 yr It would be nice if our 10 million dollar ace could maybe go 7 innings so we don't have to rely on a poor bullpen quite so much.  Uh oh, now I've gone & done it...
April 22, 201014 yr It would be nice if our 10 million dollar ace could go 7 innings so we don't have so many opportunities for our pen to blow it.  Uh oh, now I've done it...  Well, there's that I guess. Remember when Hanley went on a slump directly after he signed his contract? JJ wasn't perfect, but he wasn't super sloppy. He's played OK recently, can't expect the man to leap tall buildings in a single bound everytime he's out there.
April 22, 201014 yr When the Astros were like 0-8... I was thinking "Oh, sh*t, they're going to get hot by the time they play the Marlins next week". Of course it happened as well.... I can't believe we've lost 2 games to that crappy team. People say that the way you make the playoffs is to be .500 on the road and then win good at home. Well... if you're going to look at it that way, I tend to look at another way in that you should win the games against the teams you should beat. You can go 9-9 with the Phillies, 9-9 with the Braves, 3-3 with the Dodgers, 3-3 with the Cardinals and then beat the Pirates, beat the Astros, beat the Nationals, beat the Padres etc. and do it good. Players can get all psyched up for that marquee "big series with the Phillies", but that doesn't mean that you can just take the easier games for granted. These 2010 Marlins can hit just as well (if not better) then the 2009 ones, but it'd be nice to see an improvement in the defense and/or starting pitching. The bullpen that was bailing us out at the start of last year clearly isn't anywhere near as good in 2010. The hitters aren't going to give us 4-7 runs every game all year. I still see some hope that JJ, Nolasco and Volstad can throw a good amount of quality starts. I'm unsure about what we're going to get from Robertson and Sanchez... well, I'd like to see him out of the rotation once someone else proves they're worthy of that #5 spot.
April 22, 201014 yr Hey Erik, Dom2613, Rab...everyone. It's been a long time since I've posted here. Just wanted to come on here and say what's up. You know that I am a Lindstrom fan and at the same time a Florida Marlin fan as well. I remember well our debates and opinions over last season. One of them was whether Lindstrom was healthy or not because of his inconsistencies. Due to the fact he had no spring training last year because of the WBC IMO attributed to his control issues and hurt his consistency. Matt is still good friends with most of the players on the team, in fact John Baker, Wes Helms, Cameron Maybin, and Matt all went out to dinner and the mall yesterday before the game. This year with Brad Arnsberg and an actual spring training he has learned new grips on different pitches and is consistently throwing them for strikes. He attributes most of his success to Arnsberg. You might wonder how I know all of this information and little insights...well it is because Matt Lindstrom is my brother. Matt appreciated all of your support throughout the last 3 seasons, sorry if I ever came off hostile or beligerent. Like I said I still follow the Marlins and hope they do well. Good Luck this season.

I'm unsure about what we're going to get from Robertson and Sanchez... well, I'd like to see him out of the rotation once someone else proves they're worthy of that #5 spot.  Agreed. But I will say Robertson's made a good impression on me so far. Still so soon to be entirely sure about him, but still What's frustrating is defense... how do you fix defense? Do any players ever significantly change their fielding capabilities at any point in their careers? Just seems like this Marlins generation has been hovering between "bad" and "average" on defense for quite a few years now. Can anything be done?
April 22, 201014 yr Agreed. But I will say Robertson's made a good impression on me so far. Still so soon to be entirely sure about him, but still  I like Robertson too, but right now... I just have this same feeling about him like I did with Brian Moehler in 2005. I remember Moehler pitching against Pedro and it was 1-0 Mets win I believe, he went 8 innings and only gave up 1 run. I also remember a game in LA against the Angels where he was pitching a shutout in the 9th inning before they got some hits and we ended up losing the game. My point? As good as he pitched in 2005 with some amazing performances, I always went into his next start more hoping that he wouldn't get knocked around rather then believing he wouldn't get knocked around. That's the way I am with Robertson and I probably will be all year.
April 22, 201014 yr The bullpen is pretty much annoying me to no end. It seems like there is nothing that we can do right when it comes to the bullpen, even when we use the right player. They weren't bad tonight. Which is why I included the bold part. Badenhop was the right choice today and yet he fell behind in counts and the Astros hit him. I didn't see the game so I can't tell Badenhop's pitch location other than gameday but what I did see was how Burke got behind Blum and how Blum proceeded to triple, how he threw a wild pitch, how only one of the batters he faced saw a first pitch strike, and how he threw 18 strikes and 13 balls. From that I can only gather that he didn't have his best stuff today and was a bit scattered. I'm not saying Badenhop sucks because he doesn't but it's just frustrating that the bullpen continues to falter, even when it seems like we have the right guy in the right situation. It's understandable that Badenhop can't bail the team out every time but it sucks that we don't that many reliable alternatives.

I never knew you were his brother either, I can see now why you took offense to some of the things that were said before. Â Feel free to stop by, and share how he's doing every once in awhile too...he's actually on my fantasy team that I'm paying good money for, and I just traded Brian Wilson tonight so he's (Lindstrom) going to end up being 1 of my 2 closers now, lol. Seems like he learned how to throw a 2 seamer from what I saw tonight...and the statistics look nice, as he hasn't walked a batter yet. Â It's early, but Lindstrom (and Nunez, as well, to be fair) are doing well in their roles, right now. Since this is the postgame thread, I'll say, again, that I don't think the Astros are as bad as their early record indicates. I don't know why people keep saying they're horrible. They had an 8 game losing streak to begin the year. Those things happen, but they're a pretty average team...not bad/horrible.

That is cool that he is on your fantasy team...I hope he continues to pitch well for Houston and for your team. You know as far as the 2 seamer is concerned I think its his best pitch next to the split-change that he never ever throws. It's all about mixing in pitches because you and I both know that MLB hitters can square the hard one up.  The Astros aren't too bad considering they faced potentially the division leaders in the NL West (Giants), then the NL East (Phillies), then the NL Central (Cardinals) their first 9 games. Those teams have some pretty good pitching. It looks like the bullpen for the Marlins is going to be the biggest frustration this year. Nunez is doing a good job...his stats are nice too. It's nice to see Dan Uggla hitting over .300 and Jorge Cantu is a hitting machine. Like I said before; I like the Marlins and believe they are only a few bullpen arms away to go a long ways this year. I'll keep you posted bro. It was nice hearing from you tonight. Still jealous of your baseball knowledge. I got insight...you got knowledge!

April 22, 201014 yr Bottom line, in my opinion... our ace has yet to have a lights out dominant game this year, and his starts have been uncomfortable games thus far. Dont worry heshould clearly be able to come around. But that leaves our questionable bullpen vulnerable, and yesterday, even our best setup man cracked. In a way, this game just happened to be won by the Astros more than us losing it. Not too bad in the long run, but it sure stings tonight. Must win Thursday!
