Cantu killed this team tonight. The poor bullpen management didn't help either. Marinez should have never seen the light of day in that inning. Even with the bad bullpen management the damage should have been limited if Cantu makes those plays.

Really awful loss tonight. One of the worst of the season.

Bullpen could have done better, despite being somewhat poorly managed there. I don't like to second-guess relief pitching choices so much , I'll leave that to you guys (with the rookie bench coach in charge, let's not forget). But like I've already said on the game thread, Cantu's errors are completely unacceptable. Yeah, sure, the Chipper Jones ball (or was it someone else?) was hit pretty hard, and Cantu had to retreat to 3rd base to get his foot on the base while still looking forward to catch the ball from Paulie, but so what? He's a grown man, a major leaguer and a veteran. His two 2 errors cost the team 3 outs that inning. I've had everything I can take from Jorge Cantu. Trade deadline or not, that man can't be our everyday 3rd baseman anymore.

So who should have been in? Burke Badenhop? Jorge Sosa?

Bottom line is, Cantu lost the game. Tankersley actually did his job...the Heyward hit was a POS, and Tank actually got a righty to hit into a double play. Jorge Cannot, as usual, couldn't make the play. Cannot also screwed up a bunt play.

Cannot lost the game.

An inning is 3 outs. We're playing a first place team. Can't expect to win when your relievers are forced to get 5-6 outs in 1 inning.

Just trade Cantu already, seriously. I'd rather have anyone else play. Anyone. Bonifacio, Helms...rush Dominguez. I don't care. Play someone who can make a routine play, and doesn't throw like a girl.

what a f***ing nightmare.

wow just tank starting the inning gave me horrible vibes.

on top of all this the giants are most likely going to win and well be back to 6.5 out of the wild card when it feels like were much closer.

gotta take the series....it was almost too good to be true that we would win this game.

I'm with Erick that the bulk of this falls on Cantu but also agree Marinez was a really stupid move. Should've just gone straight to Hopper or pretty much anyone with experience in a bases loaded, 0 outs situation, not the youngest guy in the pen who was the least amount of experience. That's just asking for it.

Tank actually wasn't bad. And I never defend him. Like Erick said, he gave up a lucky hit, got a double play (that Cantu f***ed up) and the HBP should've been called back due to a blatant lean in.

Intriguing idea. I wonder if we would still get more production from 3B with a rushed-up Dominguez. I still would like to find a way to get Logan up and in the line-up

The only reason I can think of for why they went to Marinez was because he is a strikeout pitcher and we needed one. I know we all want to ease the kid in and give him easy pressure free innings but eventually he has to show he can help this team when we need him. That being said I feel he was rushed and we should have gone straight to Hopper.

Poor Tank gives a up a duck fart to Heyward then gets a ball hit right at Cantu which should have at least been one out.

Cantu is just messing everything up now and seems mentally lost.

Yeah, I would have brought in Badenhop. I don't trust a 21-old year old rookie who has pitched a couple times this year to come in and get out of the most crucial part of the game.

But yes, Cantu lost the game. He was awful tonight. He needs to be gone.

I think the thinking with that is that Marinez is the future, and he's going to have to get used to those situations if he's going to be elite sooner or later, anyway.

Granted it's a tough situation for a 21 year old kid, but Badenhop isn't exactly an option to trust either. Especially with all the left-handed bats the Braves have in their lineup. There's a reason he got hit hard tonight. Left-handed hitters hit Badenhop really well. Same for Jorge Sosa, who just sucks, really.

...I don't know why Jorge Sosa is on this team, actually...

Bottom line is if Cantu makes those plays we most likely get out of that inning with minimal damage, regardless of the pitcher. I think we both can agree on that.

Except for Sosa though because he sucks awful.
