August 12, 201016 yr I didn't see Dunn's HR, but Stanton's HR looked further than Hanley's. Hanley's was to center, though, wasn't it? left center
August 12, 201016 yr Unfortunately I missed the end of the game but I saw half of it. I must say that regardless of what happens, the rest of this season will be pretty exciting to watch if things continue the way it is and it definitely gives great hope for next year. With Mike Stanton finally being locked in and being a hitting machine, Logan looking good at the plate, Uggla continuing to hit well, and now that Hanley is looking to be back to his old self....things are finally looking good for our offense. Defensively, we still need work on. Glad we won and let's hope for a sweep! Keep on hitting!!
August 12, 201016 yr Just had a thought to the Padres going on a great run to end 2009 and then when they started hot this year, a few people came out saying "Well, this seems like a surprise but they sure caught fire at the end of 2009, maybe this is the carryover?" Point is... with the raw talent this team has... we could be that kind of team ending this year and picking up strong in 2011. Let's do it. This season may be lost realistically but theres still a lot of good baseball to be played. And with this team, it should be fun!
August 12, 201016 yr Giancarlo with his 1st career 5 hit game! That bomb was a missile and he almost took Desmond's glove off on that liner. I'm loving how in about half a season he's going to hit close to 20 to 25 homeruns as a rookie! Man he's going to be great to watch for years to come. Also it's safe to say Hanley is back and Murphy needs to start at least 3 games a week!!!!!
August 12, 201016 yr I voted for the Beast... and when it comes to deciding who plays more games at 3B the rest of the year: Donnie F****** Murphy > Wes Helms
August 12, 201016 yr Give Stanton next year at a steady rate and to start out in 2012. Cant jump the guy, but if by the ASB in 2012, he is still doing well, got something in this framework worked out. Speaking of the ASB, imagine Stanton in the HR derby. He might never get 10 outs!:notworthy

August 12, 201016 yr FROM ESPN: About Mike "With his 5-for-5 day, he became the first player to go 5-for-5 while under the age of 21 since Claudell Washington for the 1974 Athletics and the first ever to go 5-for-5 while also driving in at least four runs"

But the FO needs to feel that way also...provided they give us help with the bullpen next year and fix our holes, such as our bench players, ect. I'm liking Donnie Murphy more and more everytime he plays! If the FO wants it enough, we can do it though.

If the FO does something to improve the bullpen and (wishful thinking on my part) gets a #2 starter between JJ and Ricky PLUS a full season of Stanton, Logan, Gaby, and CC (with the "vets" Hanley and Uggla) = Exciting 2011 and beyond

I really can't wait until next year now but I'm just hoping that they actually do something to help us out. I mean I know the FO has taken the blame for this year's horrible bullpen situation, so maybe that means they'll be willing to fix it. Of course it always comes down to money. I'm just hoping Hanley has a better year next year than this year, if he has truely fixed his problem and that carries over to next year (whatever he's doing right not the actual problem heh). Who knows what next year will be like. But it'll be worthwhile for sure
August 12, 201016 yr Random thought - Hanley's improved stance still doesn't really resemble that of his early years. I'd like to see him open up a little more. That's just me, though. Anyway, it will be a test of how invested the FO is in improving the team this offseason with how they handle the bullpen situation. It's been on the back burner for years and enough is enough. The position players are pretty much set, so it's time to finally do something about the pen.

JJ is set, Ricky is in the process of signing, Sanchez needs to stay. After that, it's a bit of a toss up.
August 12, 201016 yr Uggh this team would be SO good next year if it acquired a legit #2 starter and 1-2 RP arms.
August 12, 201016 yr Lost in all the Stanton hoopla is that fact LoMo had a 3 hit game. Also disappointed by Volstad despite picking up the W.
