Don't care, thats one of the weak spots on this team.

Add a catcher and some bullpen arms along with a GOOD #2 pitcher.

Because you know, our catching pool is so deep and talented.

I'd love him but he's someone who'd cost us an arm and a leg while Loria is willing to at most sacrifice a finger nail.

I'm sure thats something the "talking heads" would say to sign him. Yes his offense would help the team and team may even talk with his agent to make it seem like they would be willing to splurge, but I just don't see this happening. With Baker out for a good part of next year and not really having any depth at the catching position they will need to make a run at somebody.

isnt he one of the worst defensive/throwing catchers in the league?

Yes

I would rather sign Torrealba for 20% the price

no thanks. use the money to sign uggla long term and add a proven pitcher to the rotation or bullpen. our catching platoon has been serviceable for the last couple of seasons. there is a different switch hitting catcher on the red sox that we should look into acquiring, salty. he's still somewhat young and cheap and a move back to the NL might bring back his stroke he had for the braves.

Who know's what's happening with our catching situation though. It seems the Marlins are really thinking of letting Paulino go after his suspension and Bake can't hit lefties to save his life (not to mention he did not have a good year before he went down). Hell, we don't even know when Bake is going to be back from Tommy John. Catching is something we need to think about, but I don't want to pay that either.

Yeah, our catching situation is really up in the air for next season. Our usuals are out for a not so small portion of the season.

Was today's game the first game Riveria has caught this season? At times, he looked slow at the plate, both while batting and behind it.

Costs too much, bad defense, and if this year is any indication, has started to decline offensively. .817 overall OPS, .735 away from Fenway.

I'll pass and take someone cheaper and younger.

Well from his recent play, I think Brad Davis deserves a look into at least be our backup.

I know it's a really small sample size, but he's OPSing 1.058 against lefties so far. If those numbers stay constant, we have a new (and cheaper) Paulino.

If Baker can recover from TJ faster than we think and be ready for Spring (or even May), then we can roll out a platoon of Baker/Davis.

That is, of course, the team has no interest in bringing Paulino back.

Save the money for resigning Uggla and getting us another starter.

Bad idea, but what's encouraging is the fact that they are actually thinking of spending some big money to improve this team. Just on the wrong player. Maybe we should go out and sign Carl Crawford.

If they really want to spend that type of money...sign Cliff Lee. But none of this is happening. I don't want Martinez, and considering there's no spot for a Crawford, I could care less for that, as well.

That is probably impossible, if the Rays don't have the money to sign him, how will we?

Rather spend that money on that proven number 2 starting pitcher.

Cliff Lee would be more expensive..How much is Crawford going to get on the market?

Catchers that are set to be FA going into the offseason that could be good signings.

Josh Bard (33)- Career .280 Hitter vs LHP (If Paulino is released)

Rod Barajas (35)

John Buck (30) (most likely to be resigned, will cost decent amount of money)

Ramon Castro (35) - club option

Ramon Hernandez (35) (would love to get him but will likely be resigned and is injury prone)

Gerald Laird (31) (Scott Boras Client...)

Bengie Molina (36) a little old but I wouldn't mind if he can hit a little

Miguel Olivo (32) - $2.5MM club option with a $500K buyout (not likely, Colorado probably will resign)

A.J. Pierzynski (34) if he's a FA I'd love to go after him.

Yorvit Torrealba (32) - $3.5MM mutual option with a $500K buyout

Yeah, Crawford is a good player whose variety of good numbers might make him seem like a great player, but he is merely a good hitter who doesn't produce enough runs to be worth signing him when we've got several guys we can put in his position that could put up similar if lesser production (without the steals) at his position.
