Personally, I think we can do a lot better. Pudge will demand a huge paycheck and a majority of the playing time even when Baker returns. Not to mention his numbers are nowhere near his salary demands.

I rather see Baker starting with Davis/Hayes as back up. Pudge coming in means Uggla may be gone.

Pudge is signed for next year so we'd have to trade with the Nats to get him. He has a 2 yr $6 mil deal with them

Not to mention, he'll be 39 next year.

 

I just saw his salary for this year and see that he's only making $3 Million, but I believe he's under contract for next year anyway. He's not worth it.

 

I'm still hoping and praying that Baker can be ready by Spring.

Yea but sh*t... When are we going to get an HOFer to go in as a Marlin. If Sheffield gets in then we may get him, but if he doesn't then we're going to have to wait until Hanley, Stanton and co have a career (given that we keep em and they have HOF careers)

Tough to say really. I know it's not as bad compared to pitchers. According to his twitter, Baker really intends to be ready by Spring Training. Of course, that is in no way a guarantee. I think he's recovery has to go perfectly well for that to happen. No setbacks at all. We'll probably be better to assess the situation come Winter.

Love him to death for what he did here but that's in the past. He's having the worst year of his career right now and is likely done after next year. So no.
