How do the Minaya/Manuel firings affect our Manager search ?

Recommended Posts

Amazing how 3 NL East teams will have vacant HC jobs in the offseason.

yeah well 2 of those teams (Marlins and Mets) owners expected much better seasons than what they got. I saw this happening a year ago. I saw with Washington improving & Atlanta improving we'd have less wins. I don't know what rose colored glasses Loria was looking through ? Then again I think he is a bit of a goof anyways (and one of the worst owners in baseball). His cheapness has handcuffed this team for 5 years now.

You don't think so ? I mean c'mon the man has millions couldn't he have just spent $ 3 to 4 million more and gotten us some bullpen arms ? If he had, JJ would be the walkaway Cy Young winner.

I don't think it affect the Bobby V situation at all, as I don't think he goes to NY.

I also don't think he'll end up here.

FWIW Jeff WIlpon said on the radio this morning that while the new GM will choose the coach, Bobby V is on a short list of candidates they want them to consider.

No no, I bet he is as he probably will be on most teams, I just don't think he ends up there.

I think Valentine winds up in Seattle. Don't see this firing changes anything.

I get that impression too.

I could see that. Or, to a lesser degree, the White Sox or Cubs.

I think the Mets are going to find it a difficult job to fill that manager's spot. Thanks to Manaya and company, they are screwed up for a couple more years at least. Unless their owner is willing to shovel a bunch more $$$ into them to cover it up. It wouldn't surprise me to see some more FO firings coming from there.

The Mets job may be the most unappealing one currently available.

That roster is saddled with bad contracts and players who are past their prime, or reaching that point.

They do have some young players that have pretty promising futures (Pagan, Davis) however the majority of the roster is in need of an overhaul. On top of things, their best bet for the future MIGHT be trading Reyes and/ or Wright however they'd be committing hari kari if they actually did.

It's truly a messy situation in Queens. Minaya did them no favors whatsoever and left them in rough shape.

The Cubs are in pretty bad shape too. That's another rough position, with the new owner coming in, the organization also saddled with no real identity and a shaky farm, and the team hemmoraging money yearly.

Come to think, not being biased here, but Florida might actually be one of the more attractive openings available this off-season.

Not to do with the Mets managerial role, but something regarding their front office anyway:

A source tells Anthony DiComo of MLB.com that the Marlins are expected to deny the Mets permission to interview members of their front office for the team's GM vacancy.

This includes president of baseball operations Admin Beinfest, general manager Michael Hill and assistant general manager Dan Jennings. Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that Jennings has a list of teams for which he may interview without the Marlins' consent and that the Mets are one of them, so he may still be in play for the job.

Gotta agree with ya. I haven't heard a peep from the White Sox. Wonder what's going on there?

Beinfest said our manager's job would be taken care of quickly. Whether that means they already have a new one in their sights or are going to extend our current one is questionable. But because of the time it takes to conform to all the MLB rules of hiring a new manager, the minority needed interviews, I would think our manager for 2011 already has the uniform on. I'm thinking the coaching staff is where we see changes. Just a feeling.

Apparently Bobby V has reemerged as our leading managerial candidate. I'm on an iPod touch right now so if anyone could google it and post a link to my claim, I'd appreciate it.

Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reports that Bobby Valentine has again emerged as a leading candidate for the Marlins' managerial opening.

Valentine was close to a deal with the Fish in early July when skipper Fredi Gonzalez was fired, but Edwin Rodriguez was given a try on an interim basis instead. Capozzi says that Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria "wants" Valentine, whom he considers a "close friend" and the kind of "high-profile personality" that could lead the club into its new stadium in 2012.

If Bobby V ends up becoming our new manager, will Edwin go back to managing the Zephyrs?

I'd say he stays on as a bench coach

If Bobby V does get the job, that's an important piece of power he would be giving up. I just don't see his ego allowing that. He would have to have a very good and impressive interview from Edwin to keep him on that way.
