a teams colors/logos/merchandise determine how popular a team is.

:lol

Prove it.

Fans don't want something simply because it is connected to the Marlins.

Could it be that they're not really fans? Perhaps they're art collectors, like Loria.

I think it's rather snobbish to turn your nose up at people who care about colors.

Fans want to buy merchandise for their favorite teams and the ownership wants fans to buy it. It's a mutual relationship.

Aesthetic appearance does have a lot to do with it. Fans don't want something simply because it is connected to the Marlins. They want something that they find visually appealing enough to purchase and wear. Notice that there has been a large number of people on these forums looking for second hand uniform items pre-2003 (more teal) design. You generally don't see much excitement for the modifications that Loria's group has made thus far.

Believe it or not, this stuff matters. That's why teams are constantly changing designs and trying to give fans more options.

100% agree with you. However, were all big Marlins fan here, do you plan on buying a hat/jersey/shirt .. etc etc regardless of the colors to rep your team?

I think it's rather snobbish to turn your nose up at people who care about colors.

This deserves a bit more attention.

It's the opposite of "snobbish." It's totally "fanish."

A snob would object to the color choice. A fan cheers whatever they come up with.

Colors don't matter, wins matter. As I've said, they can play in cut-offs, I don't care. I'll go with whatever. I'm a fan.

Well, when you get right down to it, we have no effect on anything.

To put a finer point on it and to state it more succinctly, I object to all of the whining about stuff that simply doesn't matter at all. Like colors. Or slogans.

Who plays matters. What color they play in doesn't.

What matters is completely subjective and it's absurd for you to tell us what matters and what doesn't. You're complaining about fans who care about the prospective color scheme of their favorite team and saying how ineffectual it is for us to complain about things we cannot change. You know what is even more ineffectual than that? You complaining about my caring about the Marlins prospective color scheme.

I am kind of thinking the navy blue seats are just a neutral color. I think navy is a pretty standard color. I'm not sure how black seats would look. I fully expect to be black and orange. Not sure if blue could be tied into that without looking amateur.

Why do you need to buy a bunch of commercial items to be a fan?

I see a pretty sizable difference between attending games and watching games on TV (which should have little to do with color schemes) and purchasing jerseys, hats, shirts, etc. If you don't like the new branding, I don't see why you are a bad fan if you prefer to wear teal.

I see a bunch of people still wearing beat up hats c. 1993-1995. Are they bad fans for not embracing new brandings and color changes? They are clearly making an aesthetic choice.

It's snobbish because you are sounding like some of the other people here who turn fandom into a pissing contest of team loyalty.

There are legitimate reasons for people to have aesthetic concerns about team merchandise and you really have no real reason to dismiss that as absurd. As I said above, what's the problem if I don't like what Loria unveils and I prefer to scour the secondary market for pre-2012 or even pre-2003 branded items. That might be how I personally view the identity of my team at its most aesthetically pleasing epoch and it doesn't affect how many games I watch.

Furthermore, I don't see why fandom can't entail more simply caring about the W/L column. Fans care about a more diverse assortment of things. Even if they seem superficial to you, they aren't for everyone else. That's why people go to Fanfest to get autographs. They care about the iconography of the franchise. Frankly, that's why there is a pretty sizable market for MLB merchandise in the first place.

Right on.

Why is it that American sports teams basically have the same uniform designs for years and years on end? In soccer teams change their kit (home, away and often a 3rd strip) either every year or 2nd year to maximise revenues. How come this isnt the case over there?

Feel free. Just don't call me a snob while you're doing it or writing about it.

Because soccer is awful.

And the US is a tradition/nostalgia centric society when it comes to entertainment.

If you accuse me of not being a "fan" in doing it then I will absolutely call you a snob since it's an elitist position for you to take.

You would think they would break with tradition to gain so much more in jersey revenues. And soccer is not awful. MLS yes, proper established leagues no.

Have you ever been to a European soccer game? I used to share your opinion until I actually went to one for the first time.

Was your pinky up when you typed that? ;)

How fancy of you to think of that :thumbup

I think you both are taking it to the extremes.

The retro look has been pretty popular in every sport lately. As far as new gear goes, I don't care what they wear as long as they play good ball. But I don't want to cringe every time they take the field either.

And the marketing angle is well noted. But fans will pick and choose what they want to buy. And if the powers that be see that the newer product isn't selling, they will make changes.

This quote just came in, and I think we may need to have an emergency meeting to reopen voting

As long as the colors aren't like those retro Houston Astros jerseys, I'm fine. If they are, then I'll probably never buy a single piece of Marlins merchandise again.

This has got to quite honestly be the worst uniform I've ever seen, and that little stadium logo really scares me into thinking it'll be somewhat like this.

QUITE HONESTLY, ENTENDU101, YOU'RE THE UGLIEST UNIFORM I'VE EVER SEEN!

And I highly doubt it'll look anything like that. As Squall said, it'll be something modern looking.

P.S. Yes, I do own a rainbow uni. And it owns you.
