heat84
http://sports.espn.g...tory?id=6404094 Although this could be beneficial to the Marlins who usually just miss out on a playoff birth, I like it the way it is. I hope this isn't a slippery slope towards the NBA playoffs.

HitDaCycle
Perfect timing too. We'll have the World Series in our brand new stadium ballpark in 2012

Rabbethan
ESPN says "Commish: 10 teams in playoffs for '12" Commish said: "I would say we're moving to expanding the playoffs, but there's a myriad of details to work out," Commissioner Bud Selig said Thursday at his annual meeting with the Associated Press Sports Editors. "Ten is a fair number." "The more we've talked about it, I think we're moving inexorably to that," Selig said. TOTALLY the same thing. enterthemadness
Make it best of 3 for the WC teams. Then winner advances to current system. MARLINS WIN TITLES NOW.
poptart
I definitely made a thread about this a few months ago. Totally for it.
Admin
I've mad my case about this several times in the past. It's really hard to justify expanding the playoffs. Baseball is not designed for tournament-style play (which is what expanding the playoffs signifies); if you demote the regular season more, you are impoverishing the game itself. Dr Beinfest
I kinda hate the idea, although it should help the Marlins. Kinda where I stand on it. I'm just glad it's nothing ridiculous like 16. It's good and bad.
canada-marlin24
i like it but what happens to the 5th team. do they get a bye or something based on wins? if the two wild cards played each other then someone is left out.
Schnellders
Tommy Hutton suggested that teams in the 1 game playoff are forced to use their best starter. How do you define who is the best starter?

Like every stupid Cy Young voter. Wins. Felix Hernandez... Oh please, Felix Hernandez winning the Cy Young was like Arcade Fire winning Album of the Year. Because the world gathered up enough hipsters who said "psh, we don't care about awards or fame." and in the end, being a hipster and the sense of being unique ended up not being unique at all. In fact, it became popular to be a hipster. With the attention diverted by Jimenez, it's almost a reverse-psychology win for Hernandez. mystikol87
He probably just meant that the teams would be forced to use their best starter because if they lose, then they're out.

Or maybe it was because he was the best pitcher last year and everyone knew it, just like Greinke the year before. Also, not sure what him winning the AL Award has to do with Jimenez getting attention for the NL award from April to July.

Also, not sure what him winning the AL Award has to do with Jimenez getting attention for the NL award from April to July. Relajate. Arcade Fire also won because they indeed had the album of the year amongst the candidates. That being said, there's no doubt that Lady Gaga (Ubaldo) was the superior artist in popularity and all of the 'critics' thought she should've won. Wins = charting on the radio. Justice was served, as it should've been. That's not to say that it's not completely normal to see the artist who charts the best getting the Grammy. Happens all the time. In short, what have we learned here? Lady Gaga and Ubaldo Jimenez are one in the same.
Entendu
Lady Gaga's a f***ing joke and her music is sh*t. Maybe that's why she didn't win the Cy Young.
Entendu
Oh, and I'm not sure how I feel about this. Winning the Wildcard should guarantee you more than a 1 game playoff. That's stupid.
