April 23, 201115 yr Just got home. Amazing game to be at. Tough to lose it like he did on the little soft cheap ass hit. I wasn't expecting him to make it past the 6th with the way they were hitting him, though. They stung a lot of balls in the middle innings. Great night for him obviously. Also a great night for Coghlan with two hits, a HR, and the great diving catch. Wasn't that Cousins? Yeah, it was. Coghlan made some good reads out there too, though. They were hitting the ball hard all game. I didn't think Anibal would hold it past the 6th then he just turned on another gear and started mowing guys down. I'd never seen that out of him before.

With Infante at first and no outs, Hanley struck out swinging (and threw his bat into the third base side seats) and apparently somehow interfered with Ianetta who was trying to catch Infante stealing. On batter's interference, as far as I can see in the rulebook, only the batter is out and the runner goes back to the last base he touched. However, both Hanley and Infante were called out. Why? Is there a special rule I'm not seeing regarding plays when a guy is going on the pitch? Here's what I see in the rulebook regarding batter's interference. 6.06 A batter is out for illegal action when -- (a) He hits a ball with one or both feet on the ground entirely outside the batterÂ’s box. Rule 6.06(a) Comment: If a batter hits a ball fair or foul while out of the batterÂ’s box, he shall be called out. Umpires should pay particular attention to the position of the batterÂ’s feet if he attempts to hit the ball while he is being intentionally passed. A batter cannot jump or step out of the batterÂ’s box and hit the ball. We're usually the team that people bounce back on, so don't count your chickens just yet.

April 23, 201115 yr I remember the rockies announcers were confused as to why infante was out also. Their conclusion was that: only the batter is called out if the batter's swing interferes with the catcher. but since they thought hanley blatantly walked in front of the catcher with the intent to interfere, infante was called out. i dont know if this is in the rulebook.
April 23, 201115 yr I like Animal Sanchez for a nickname. LOL at Mr. Extended Batting Practice, this boards getting real sharp with the nicknames i tell you what. This team feels real good right now. It's almost, Almost! like stress free baseball. Our pitching has been stellar, I wonder how much this has to do with having an experienced catcher like Buck on the roster? About the batter's interference call, seems like the umpire took a more forceful interpretation of the rules. Calls like that suck when they're against you, but we won...so..=)
April 23, 201115 yr Another great effort by the team tonight. I'm real anxious to see how good this team can be once LoMo gets back, and once Hanley and Stanton fry going. If we can get improvement there, we should be in this till the very end.
April 23, 201115 yr Agree with the above optimism. We are starting to play some serious ball. Teams like us that dont spend much usually generally don't have a lot of depth and really can't afford to lose guys to injury. We need LoMo back somethin fierce.

April 23, 201115 yr A question for all you experts. JJ, who has had arm surgery, goes for a no hitter into the eighth against Atlanta. Freeman doubles with one out in the eighth and Edwin immediately pulls JJ after 109 pitches. Anibal, who has had should surgery, goes for a no hitter into the ninth against Atlanta. Fowler doubles on Anibal's 117 pitch and Edwin leaves him in to finish the game. Why the difference in the handling extended pitch counts for the two pitchers? One was in the 8th, the other was in the 9th? There are no experts here. Just fans with opinions. But... JJ had a 6-0 lead with a very rested pen. Edwin noticed him tiring or struggling a bit or he wouldn't have gone over to ask him if he was still fit to go a little earlier. Actually said he didn't want to go sit next to him and have that conversation but felt he had to. Still, had he gotten through that 8th he would have stayed in. 109 pitches, a big lead, a manager that was already concerned, and a very reliable pen ready to take over. Anibal was on cruise control. Can't be sure, but I don't think there was anybody warming up at that time. Had he given up that hit with 5 outs to go he probably would have finished the inning because he was cruising, but maybe not the game. Imagine this scenario. In AJ's no-no he walked a ton of guys. Had he allowed a hit with 5 outs to go do you think he would have been left in?
