Erick
This would be awesome.
Dr Beinfest
Mike Dunn would have one of the quickest jumps from minors to closer if that was the case...
fanofthefish
I would be okay with trading Nunez, but I for one never have liked trading within your own division. Also who or what will the Marlins get in return for him, if the Phillies are willing to make this trade then certainly other teams would be too! Erick
Mike Dunn would have one of the quickest jumps from minors to closer if that was the case... It's a fantay site, so they're just looking at the guy with the best K/9 and most upside out of the bullpen. Dunn wouldn't take over the role, though. Especially not with McKeon here. I like this because the Phillies already have minimal payroll flexibility, so it'd be awesome if they gave us a quality pitching prospect or two/have to pay Leo Nunez the 5-6 million that he's probably not even worth. CyggyMarlin
Dunn has to lower his walk rate before I'd hand him the 9th inning role
CyggyMarlin
If Leo gives the Phillies heartburn, I'm all for this deal
Erick
Dunn has to lower his walk rate before I'd hand him the 9th inning role If Leo is traded, I'd be shocked if McKeon doesn't choose Mujica as his new closer. Mujica is the definition of everything McKeon likes in a pitcher. Maybe it can be a closer-by-committee sort of thing where Choate can come in to get a tough lefty in the 9th or something. Either way, it's not a big deal and I'm all for it.
MarlinKidd101
Trade Leo to the Phillies and order him to blow as many games as he can and help the Marlins win the division! It's all part of the plan...
babaru
I barely trust Leo with the closer role, so I'm pretty certain I wouldn't feel good about anyone else in the pen taking over the role.
CajunMarlin
Trading within the division is only a bad thing if it is a player who you hate to see go.
Jagsfreak27
I hope we get a decent return if we DO in face trade Leo. Despite his reputation on this board he is an above average closer and those can be pretty difficult to find. He just wouldn't look right in red either! GoFishGoMs628
I want Worley + (obviously they probably wouldn't do that) ... So you want another World Series, Phillies, it will cost ya.

poptart
Marlins love trading within the division! WTF the Uggla trade's paying off... maybe they slipped Leo a time-release muscle deterioration chemical in his gatorade.
flasportsfan88
Who cares if we trade in division, Nunez is overpriced and not that good.

When Uggla resumes jacking 30+ a year, and Infante is on his third team in as many years, tell me how that one worked out again.

Wow, he can hit some fastballs. His production has been god awful. He's still batting under .200, over half way through the season. He's become useless. Say what you'd like... say the Marlins got lucky in the trade if you wish, but you're naive to think anyone would want Dan Uggla at the moment. Atlanta is stuck with him. My post didn't say that his production was any good right now, although for the record he is still outperforming Infante in OPS (.626 to .613). I don't think he's gonna to continue being that bad. And I'm sure that you are laughing right now at how much Atlanta is spending on him, but just remember that the money we saved by trading him just went into John Buck, so the trade merely allowed us to crucify ourselves by a different means. Erick
Uggla's lack of offensive production has to do with an absolutely attrocious .BABIP. Once that become normal again...he's much better than Infante. Hopefully Dunn becomes a legit arm for us in the pen.
Sirspud
It's also worth noting that Uggla homered twice tonight.

The 48 we offered and the 55 the Braves gave Uggla is being used to pay John Buck's 3 year 16 million deal? Wow, we have some sh*tty accountants! Also, John Buck has been better than Uggla so far. Schnellders
I don't like trading within the division when it's in regards to an everyday starter, but when it's a reliever then that is absolutely fine with me as long as the return is sufficient. calimarlinsfan
I've seen some people at times talk about how Leo should go more than one inning, especially with how others in the bullpen are used quite frequently. Jack said that as long as he is a Marlin they might try pushing him to go an extra inning: http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/2011/07/20/florida-marlins-manager-jack-mckeon-might-let-closer-leo-nunez-pitch-more-than-one-inning/
