I was going to vote the bullpen but then thought, no.

Brett Hayes needs to get more attention and more starts at catcher at least let him start more for the rest of the year.

Can't wait for the catcher competition in spring training next year.

Hand shouldn't be pitching in the majors, when a pitcher has more balls thrown than strikes he needs to remain in the minors. I know we don't have "MANY" options, but lets at least let "ANOTHER" option try his luck at pitching.

I thought Hand's reaction was comical, do you actually expect Jack to leave you out there when youre throwing balls all over the place and we "STILL" have a chance to win.

Play to win.

Gotta love Boner, I've always loved speed back to the Castillo days then Pierre now Boner is streaking!

1. Sabermetrics don't say that.

2. Hayes' production is nice, but it's also based on a small sample size.

3. Whether you like it or not, it's a business. The Marlins aren't going to be paying John Buck $6 mill per year to make room for Brett Hayes, who's never even shown signs of being a good hitter in the minor leagues.

Erick don't try to tell me they don't say that, because they do I will post the numbers for you below.

John Buck's BA/PA

2004: .235/258

2005: .242/430

2006: .245/409

2007: .222/399

2008: .224/418

2009: .247/202

2010: .281/437

2011: .226/355

2011: ZiPS (U): .233/511

------

Hayes doesn't need to show he's been a good hitter in the minors if he shows he's a good hitter in the majors, which he has for the most part so far.

------

Yea it's a business, you don't sign a catcher who has 1 good year to a 3 year contract, dumb!

That's not sabermetrics? You said sabermetrics say he'll never hit more than .240.

If anything, sabermetrics say he has an unfortunate .257 .BABIP this year. Plus, if he gets up to .240-.250 with the batting average, that's more productive than the .240's of year's past because he's walking at a decent rate this year.

You're also not taking into consideration that he's a catcher. Despite how terrible his year might seem, he has a 1.5 WAR. There aren't many good everyday catchers in the big leagues.

If you're a sabermetrics guy, you'd see that Brett Hayes numbers are not sustainable. He has a .333 .BABIP (entering the day), a 5.1 BB%, and a ~27K%. The .BABIP is almost impossible to sustain and the K/BB ratio is just horrible. Start him every day, and you'll wish John Buck was back there again.

You're basing your opinion on Hayes based on the fact that he's been productive over the course of 80+ plate appearances. That's not a telling sample.

That's basically only a month of playing. John Buck has had good months, too. As a matter of fact, John Buck's numbers are trending upward as he's been more productive each and every month. Since you seem to like small samples, Buck has posted a very nice .766 .OPS (.262/.351/.415) in 72 plate appearances this month.

Stanton's HR went 455

Really? Didn't seem to be that far.

Damn.

Actually when he hit it I thought he got jammed til I saw Bernadina running back.

Went pretty far up...plus it was nearly to dead center.

This is true ...

So ... when's he gonna get really into one like in NY?

I complain about Buck a lot, but lately, he has looked much better. Along with what Erick mentioned, his line drive % is up to 17.3 with his career avg. at 16.9. It was much lower than that earlier in the season, so that is a great sign. He also has more walks this year, which is also a good sign. He just needs to keep it up.
