Posted August 31, 201113 yr Left the game in the 4th inning and is heading to miami to be evaluated. hes only played in 92 games this year. i think everyone cursed him by predicting that he was going to have a huge year i.e. Edwin.
August 31, 201113 yr Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post is hearing "unconfirmed buzz" that Hanley Ramirez has a serious shoulder injury that will require surgery. Ramirez was set to return from the disabled list later this week, but he suffered a setback with his shoulder during a minor league rehab game Wednesday night. He was sent back to Miami for further evaluation, but it sounds like his status for the rest of his season and perhaps the early part of 2012 may be in doubt. Stay tuned. --- RotoWorld.com
August 31, 201113 yr Shut him down, get that shoulder operated on, come back healthy in 2012. August 31, 201113 yr by default, Hanley is abdicating as the face of the Marlins. This puts the Marlins in somewhat of a conundrum. Hanley was going to be the face of the franchise, especially with the Latino population. With Hanley out and possibly not the same Hanley ever again (you never know if these shoulder things can become chronic) do they have to keep Gaby to be that "Latin Face" ? Does Mike Stanton know how to speak Spanish fluently ? If he doesn't, if I am his agent, I get him ASAP into Spanish classes. I can then in a year or so, get him commercials in Spanish and solve the Marlins "face of the franchise" problem nicely & neatly. Also it shows management that he Mike is ready for that big contract.
August 31, 201113 yr I wonder how he hurt it? If it's been bothering him all season and he's said nothing I can see how he's struggled at the plate. Probably hard for him to just let it fly when he knows his left shoulder is gonna hurt.

Probably hard for him to just let it fly when he know his left shoulder is gonna hurt. But he should have said something and gotten it taken care of then. Now he might have to have surgery that doesn't let him play on that all important 1st game next season.
August 31, 201113 yr Why am I not surprised? ---- On a positive note perhaps Hanley has needed surgery all along and thus is a result of his poor play this year; I mean only Josh Johnson can dominate while secretly injured. ---- At least Stanton will lead the National League in home runs and will finish this season with less than 200 strike outs I can name a few people that argued that wasn't possible, earlier this year.
August 31, 201113 yr At least Stanton will lead the National League in home runs and will finish this season with less than 200 strike outs I can name a few people that argued that wasn't possible, earlier this year. That's mostly because signs indicated earlier in the year that this would be the case. Thankfully it won't, though.
August 31, 201113 yr At least Stanton will lead the National League in home runs and will finish this season with less than 200 strike outs I can name a few people that argued that wasn't possible, earlier this year. Yeah, but Greg Dobbs is better. He has a 28.3% success rate.

August 31, 201113 yr Hanley's been bothered by this shoulder for years now, maybe finally getting surgery is the best thing.

We don't need a latin face. Just a face. Homeruns, in this instance, are bilingual. I've been seeing this all season. Minor injury -> DL ->send down -> further injury complexity -> major doctor examination -> shutdown What the f*** is going on here?????
September 1, 201113 yr Obviously we know very little information about the health status of players, but I have the fear that both Johnson and Ramirez could have benefited from having surgery this season. Johnson scares me the most. He was supposedly sidelined for inflammation and "no structural damage." The Marlins keep teasing with the idea that he's going to pitch in the majors this season. Just days ago, Hill said that the "plan" is still to have Johnson pitch a few starts in September. Meanwhile he hasn't started throwing until somewhat recently and he's only been throwing on flat ground. There's probably a whole lot we don't know, but I still wonder if it would have been better to put him under the knife months ago.

And while I may mot be the average fan they are targeting with their decisions, my excitement level for 2012 is completely unrelated to whether or not JJ gets any September starts.
September 1, 201113 yr Having Johnson miss a large portion of 2012 would be much more devastating than having him only throw a handful of starts in 2011. I won't be too happy if he goes down next season because something wasn't properly handled this year, especially considering that around June it was clear that this team wasn't going anywhere.
September 1, 201113 yr Jesus, the Marlins can't catch a break. Whatever it is with Hanley, I hope they tend to it starting from now just to ensure that he's good for next season.
September 1, 201113 yr by Joe Capozzi Hanley Ramirez was examined by doctors in Miami today and had an MRI on his left shoulder. The Marlins said they won’t get the results until tomorrow. But indications are Ramirez won’t be back this year. He felt discomfort in his shoulder swinging in the on-deck circle last night and took himself out of the game. He was on a rehab assignment with Class A Jupiter. One person who spoke to players at the game said Ramirez was in a lot of pain and that his shoulder had swelled up significantly. The feeling is he will need surgery, but the team has not said anything about that yet. Marlins writers at Citi Field in New York are still waiting to gget briefed by the front office, whose top officials still haven’t arrived yet. They were in their annual “state of the team meeting in Manhattan all day. This does not sound to good.
September 1, 201113 yr Does anyone else feel like someone in the conditioning/medical staff of our organization is dropping the ball? Does anyone have any information about how decisions like this are made and what could(if anything) be going wrong? I wish i had a sports medicine major on speed dial.
September 1, 201113 yr Both players and owners will ALWAYS try to minimize down-time and will ALWAYS go for the least invasive course of treatment that has any chance of success. It's why players often are day-to-day instead of immediately going on the 15-day DL. Everyone wants to see if a minor injury will resolve quickly. If no progress is being made, they resort to more tests, etc. Then the 60-day DL. If the injury isn't responding to anything, they're left with season-ending options like surgery. This sort of thing happens league-wide, it's not just the Marlins. Medicine isn't always black and white, there are many gray areas and every injury is different. If you were a player, you'd do the same thing: try to minimize down-time and avoid surgery if at all possible.

From what I remember reading, JJ will pitch a couple games in the minors this season if at all. I have no problem with just shutting him down. Get him some "supervised" off season conditioning.
September 1, 201113 yr If Johnson were to have surgery I bet he's gone the whole 2012 season. Surgery recovery on pitchers is longer than position players. Especially things having to do with the arm.

(Of course, a catcher throws many more times than SP I realize that so a lot of wire and tear there compared to position player.)
