Tallon was quoted as saying that he has some things "in the fryer" and is waiting for some call beaks from some big name people.

Alex Semin would be a nice replacement for samuelsson. Guess samuelsson just wanted Detroit like garrison wanted Vancouver.

Well like Dr. B said, we have an infusion of youngins coming in with Huberdeau, Howden and possibly Drew Shore as well. That's some nice offensive talent there, but we have to expect growing pains as well.

Yes there will definitely be growing pains and I think we need to offset some of that with some nice signings. We need to build on the momentum from last year.

I'm guessing Tallon wouldn't want Semin even if he had the money to spend.

We need scoring. Where's Pavel Bure when you need him? But seriously I think Tallon is looking at two or three years from now before he thinks the team will start to contend so he's not going to go after the big FA or the big trade until then at least. That will be just to supplement what we have here. It's all about building through the draft. And so he is just letting that take it's course and on top of that foundation he is going to lay the big FA's and the big trades.

With gudbranson and potential Howden and huberdeau ready the time to add a key free agent is now.

We can't afford to miss the playoffs anymore.

I think Huberdeau and Howden could very well be our acquisitions, based on Tallon's interview today.

What interview was that? I didn't see it.

It's on the main site. floridapanthers.com, Tallon conference call from yesterday. Also interviews with Clemmensen and Parros if you want to hear those.

PA Pearenteau and Jiri Hudler were just had for 4 years and 16 million each. Those were two guys i was really hoping we could nab.

tallon has acknowledged today that he has been in contact with the canucks over luongo which i still dont get why.

^Because he's better than what we have...

may be better individually but we have a good tandem that can win. and no thanks in regards to his crippling contract.

would rather have scoring.

We have a tandem that's been inconsistent throughout their careers. They were good last year, but it's possible they could regress this upcoming year. With Luongo, you know what you're getting.

As for the crippling contract, we'd be trading a crippling contract in the process.

If this was always the mindset, we never would've acquired Brian Campbell. Crippling contract, good player. Same applies to Luongo.

campbell does come to mind but getting luongo also wouldnt make sense for markstrom either.

It worked with Schneider in Vancouver.

I think it becomes a good problem to have.

1. Markstrom has had issues with his knees, which is worrisome, in the first place.

2. If all pans out according to plan, you have the option of Markstrom learning from Luongo or trading Markstrom for assets.

Luongo isn't playing out the rest of his contract; he'll probably retire beforehand.

i wonder who they would give up though. i would hate to lose offense in this trade with guys like matthias and upshall rumored.

i know upshall didnt show up until the playoffs but id like to give him a chance to see what he can do.

If he plays well. If he stays healthy. If he's not slumping.

You realize we've been making ifs for the past decade? We've seen players that can produce. Both of those guys aren't necessarily in need of any 'time'.

Hey if Luongo makes us better fine but right now I'm not comfortable with the firepower we have. I hope huberdeau goes off for 35 goals but that's no guarantee. Tallon needs to make some moves.

Still plenty of time but it feels like the 2010 marlins after they almost made the playoffs in 09. Minimal change and just bring the same team back with some youngsters. Didn't work so let's hope more good action is coming,

That sucks.

If you're going to have trouble scoring, it's probably best to acquire a goalie who will prevent goals as best as possible. I would think that's the thought process.

I would've liked Jokinen back as well.

Once again though, Matthias and Upshall are not offensive players. Their offensive output can be replaced quite easily. I'd be more inclined to keep Matthias of course, but if it's just those two for Luongo? Are you kidding? Done in a heartbeat.

Likewise. I'd be thrilled with just about any trade taking on Upshall's contract, at this point.

Upshall actually has a no movement clause according to cap geek.

And does anyone know what the team is looking to spend. I think they have about 9 million before the floor.

He does. Upshall does. Theodore does. Jovo does. Lots of em have em.

That doesn't mean they wouldn't be willing to waive them for a chance to go to the 1st place Vancouver Canucks. I think what most players get those NMCs for are so that they don't get traded mid-season and have to pack up their homes mid-season/live on the road while 'at home', or so that they don't end up on a bad team with a long contract. Most players want to have a say in where and when they're going, if they're going, I'd think. I wouldn't be so worried about players not willing to lift an NMC.
