2011-2012 Florida Panthers/NHL Thread

that was such a bad goal. a stupid f***ing wrister that gets through.

with the way the marlins are playing i dont know why im not crying.

hard to believe there is no tomorrow. season is over yet i still remember the first game shutout against the islanders.

so f***ing pissed we get beat by that schmuck henrique and deboer.

5-hole sounds dirty.

Don't know too much about hockey, but it seems like they need a play-maker on the wings no?? To me it seems like they rely too much on shots from the point by the defense men...Am I correct?

Where is this team's biggest need, besides depth?

Goal-scoring.

Center is a bigger need than wing because it's simply a more important position.

If we could develop a #1 center one of these years, we'd be pretty awesome. All the role players are in place. Weiss is the perfect #2 center. Goc, perfect checking line center.

Bergenheim is a fantastic secondary scorer to have.

Basically, our current 1st line is a 2nd line.

It was good to see Kopecky and Upshall step up their game in the playoffs too because they're going to be here for awhile. Hopefully Upshall can get back to his 20-goal scoring ways next year, again; that would be a nice boost.

A true number 1 center has been the team's biggest need for years. As much as I love Weiss, he's a true 2nd line center. We have a couple of promising prospects coming up that could possibly fill that need. Huberdeau for instance is our top prospect, but he'll likely play wing to start his career. Bjugstad is probably our best center prospect, but he's still at least another year away.

Thanks for the info...You think Huberdeau will play in the NHL next year? I imagine that Tallon won't try to fulfill this center need through free agency right? since the farm system is supposedly stacked, and it would be a tough cap-hit

Huberdeau will probably make the team next year.

It's difficult to acquire a #1 center via free agency. It's like getting an ace pitcher; they're usually developed within the system or you have to incredibly overpay for them.

Tallon had the opportunity to overpay Brad Richards and he didn't. Kinda turns out that that was the best move he didn't make because it allowed him to put together a more complete team.

Awesome, you guys are truly die-hards and knowledgeable, appreciate it and I applaud for knowledge...It was a fun season...I started paying close attention while the NBA was on lockout, and kept on following the Cats...kinda reminded me of the 2006 marlins, or the 2003-2004 Heat...

yep that looked like me at a sports bar up here too last night... So high after the Justin Blackmon news and I really felt like they'd pull it out after that comeback. Doesn't hurt nearly as bad when you consider how miserable it's been for the cats the past several years though.

Seems like wolski had fallen out of favor the last few games. The guy can score so we should maybe give him a shot next year.

I would also like to see mikael samuelsson back who did a lot of good things for us and had he not been hurt may of had his third straight 50 point season.

Other than that I'm sure a few guys like barch, strum, and madden won't be back and i would love tallon to pick up a big time scorer along with a prepared huberdeau.

One of my friends from HS said he came all the way from Idaho just to watch the Panthers game so they interviewed him on the news & made some kind of big deal about what a diehard fan he is...So freaken hilarious watching this!!!

Wolski's done. Makes way too much money to offer him a contract, unless they release him and sign him as a class VI UFA or whatever it's called.

Versteeg is an RFA, he'll get ~$4.00 million.

I could see Samuelsson coming back, around what he's making now at ~$2.50 million.

Sturm wont be back. He was a good way to get rid of Booth but his spot is a good spot to stick a youngster.

Wolski definitely wont be back at $4.00 million +%10. Not a chance in hell. Could see him being released and re-signed though, but don't bet on it.

Madden is probably done, but who knows.

Barch is probably gone.

Kulikov will probably get $3.00 million over 3 years, I'd imagine.

Ellerby will probably get re-signed, $1.50 million is my guess.

Garrison will be a tough one to sign but I bet we give him something in the range of $4.00 million and that get's settled late.

Clemmensen probably isn't coming back.

Koistinen's buyout comes off the books.

So we're at $39.00 million as it stands right now...

+ everything I just mentioned leaves us at... $54 million.

Not a ton of cap space off of of last season, ~3 million in free money. Expect every single spot filled to go to guys like Huberdeau, Howden, and Markstrom.

I'm excited for what next year's team is going to look like.

I don't think it'll be any better. Probably just as good, maybe a little worse (but perhaps they can figure out a way to win OT games and still make the playoffs).

The year after that, though, should be awesome with a bunch of blossoming youngsters.

You can have a better time in South Beach, Kane!

Nothing would feel better than a sweep.

Panthers are rumored to be one of the finalists in the Roberto Luongo sweepstakes.

Yuck.
