Michael
Bring him back! ... To teach Buck how to catch.
Erick
I was thinking about this today, so this doesn't surprise me. I'd be for it. He sucks now, but Brett Hayes and most backup catchers aren't good. That's why they're backup catchers. Pudge is a name that might get the ignorant "fan" excited. Further reasons to come to the ballpark, especially for those who haven't watched a game since 2003.
Rabbethan
I love Pudge and being part of the standing ovation for him was amazing but... I'd rather have Johnny Bake be our backup than Pudge. But I wouldn't be mad it it, love Pudge.
Erick
Can Johnny Bake even catch anymore?
Rabbethan
Can Johnny Bake even catch anymore? I saw him catch during his rehab at Jupiter but maybe you have a point. We had a distinct lack of Bake behind the plate since he came up. Only time I saw him back there was when he was warming pitchers up. Anonymous
I wouldn't do it. He has a great history with the team, but he's a very bad baseball player right now.

This is the guy that left our team after winning a WS because he wanted more money. And if I recall correctly, we offered a pretty generous contract. So I doubt he comes back for anything less than 4MM a year, which is a waste of money. We need it to go after an impact player, not sentimental value. But I do love Pudge :lol
cdy_0513
He would definitely put butts in the seats. He would also help pitchers tremendously. He has always been my favorite player, so im for it. He could be what Wes Helms was supposed to be. There more for his presence.

He is another year older, and coming home to play what would most likely be his last year in his career. I see him being pretty cheap. fanofthefish
Assuming that Baker isn't ready, then IF he can be brought in on the cheap I would love to have him back
MARLIN BURGER
Ok but how much its a nice idea but that money can go to something we realy need like a pitcher because volstad and ricky stink
Jags28
I'd take him for a year at a mil. Better defensively than either of our catchers, no worse offensively than Hayes and not that far away from Buck. Would get a few more people excited and wouldn't really hurt the team any. AeroFishOne
If that happens I wonder If we trade Baker or we move him to another position, or make him a lefty bat off the bench.

hovertical
I could see Baker possibly being traded cross-state to the Rays during the offseason providing he can show he's able to catch. They're desperate for more production out of the catcher spot.
Hammerhead
He would definitely put butts in the seats. He would also help pitchers tremendously. He has always been my favorite player, so im for it. He could be what Wes Helms was supposed to be. There more for his presence. So will a brand new stadium. Seriously, this shouldn't be an issue whatsoever when looking at a player ever in my opinion and going into our first year at the new park, it shouldn't be an issue for anyone else, either, for at least another three years. We definitely do need a new catcher next year, though. I don't care if John Buck is a god in the clubhouse and I don't care if his contract was ten times bigger. His on field contributions this year were just atrocious. It's impossible to defend starting him again this year. The free agent pool for catchers looks pretty damn good this year: Rod Barajas LAD Henry Blanco ARI Ramon Castro CWS Ryan Doumit PIT Ramon Hernandez CIN Jason Kendall KC Gerald Laird STL Jose Molina TOR Yadier Molina STL * Dioner Navarro LAD Jorge Posada NYY Ivan Rodriguez WAS Brian Schneider PHI Kelly Shoppach TB * Chris Snyder PIT * Matt Treanor KC Jason Varitek BOS * - player whose current contract includes 2012 option Personally, I'd take almost any one of them over Buck. I know there are other holes we need to address first but I don't see how he automatically gets the starting job again. It just doesn't make sense. AeroFishOne
Well they will either have to trade him or pay him all those millions to be a backup, and I don't see them doing number 2. You also still have Baker in the mix, but who knows what the plans are for him.
