February 13, 201214 yr Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN Sources: Oakland has agreed to terms with Yoenis Cespedes, 4 years, $36 million.
February 13, 201214 yr At 4 years, I would've considered. I'd rather pay him more to be here for less years. I really think this is one of those situations where 4/$36 > 6/$36.
February 13, 201214 yr http://bleacherrepor...t-move-for-cubs Cubs fans talking themselves into believing that Soler is a better pickup than Cespedes. :lol Its like they're talking themselves into taking home the fat girl. I'd rather have Soler. I also trust Theo's team more than I trust David Samson in scouting talent.

February 13, 201214 yr #marlins offered cespedes $36 million for 6 years -Spencer Well, what's done is done. Didn't see that coming.

I don't see the logic in that. I'm with Penguin on this one. You pay him more over less years and he's a bust, you still cripple the team financially for a couple years. Somewhat.
February 13, 201214 yr It goes against the whole "moneyball" philosophy And the player Billy goes for

They'll be paying like $9 million at least for him to play in the minor leagues before he's ready.

February 13, 201214 yr The A's have been going against their strict Moneyball tendency for years now. This signing makes sense for Beane and the A's. They're moving the San Jose soon. They needed to add some sort of player that could be marketable. In comes Yoennes.
February 13, 201214 yr I do think the per year figure is more than I would've been willing to pay. 6 years $36 million would've been a good number for the FIsh to sign him at, not 4 years. I think the thought process from Cespedes' management team is that being 30 years when he hits the open market next time will allow him for a possible big payday in his prime if he pans out. Might not get that big payday at 32.

February 13, 201214 yr I really don't think that the A's should be regarded anymore as the archetypal example of smart, cost-effective spending. That team should be the Rays. I think they might be the smartest organization in baseball.
