Jonathan Broxton

He kind of peaked in 2009, but even then he choked in Game 4 of the NLCS. And he's coming off a surgery from that elbow injury that derailed his 2011 season, so he's kind of a risk. But taking his youth and past success into account, I'd take him over Juan Carlos Oviedo.

His 300 lbs. are a deal killer for me. Forget it.

300 pounds? F*ckin' A, man. Even Jose Ceda is listed at 275.

Don't be so worried about single-game playoff performances. The surgery is the much bigger concern.

And Broxton's tall, he's about what, 6'7, 6'8? C.C. Sabathia is 6'7 290. Height plays a factor in weight at times.

His incredible nosedive stats-wise either says re-invention or 'stay away'.

I'm guessing he was pitching hurt during at least part of 2010, and 2011 was just after returning. So, it may not be that he forgot how to pitch, but that he was hurt (or some combination thereof).

With a positive outlook, yes.

I wouldn't sign the guy as a closer though. Perhaps bring in competition for the role, but don't damn yourself. You've gotta imagine that he might not ever be the same.

Giving Broxton a one year deal makes more sense to me than giving Leo Oviedo what he'll make in arbitration.

maybe, but oviedo stays healthy and broxton's fastball is as straight as they come.
