Heath Bell signs 3 year / $27M deal

Featured Replies

We finally have a closer with some gut (pun intended)...I was so sick of Leo Oviedo trying to finesse the corners and afraid of using his fastball

It was so frustrating....The kid has talent but but just doesn't have the ice in his vein or the fire in his belly that Bell brings with him

Heath Bell doesn't throw changeups like a woman!

They just discussed the Marlins getting Heath Bell on Intentional Talk. Chris Rose (this guy, ugh) compared signing a closer first to ordering your tux and making dinner reservations for prom without having a date yet. Seriously, he makes Kevin Millar look (mildly) intelligent.

Don't you love it how Philly did the EXACT same thing, yet it was a praised signing?

Um they have like a starting rotation that is already set, we don't. So they kind of have a point.

The Phillies starting rotation isn't set.

I preferred it when Leo didn't use his fastball because it was likely to end up going over the fence.

The bottom line is that Leo was a decent reliever, but all-around he was nothing special. He was a great return for Jacobs and was a decent asset for the Marlins at the time who were working on a budget.

Now Leo's price has ballooned far above his actual value, so it's time to get rid of him. They didn't necessarily need a $9 million guy to work the ninth inning, but it still sends a positive message I guess.

I'm guessing Rab's picture at the end of games will say "Saved by the Bell" next year.

Whether this is a good signing or not depends on what they do the rest of the offseason. If this is the best offseason addition then this is retarded. If this is the 3rd biggest addition then this is great.

Since I started following the Marlins in 2006, I have had to watch the likes of Joe Borowski, Henry Owens, Kevin Gregg, Matt Lindstrom, Leo Nunez and Clay Henlsey attempt to close out games.

I for one am actually looking forward to finally having a proper, "elite" closer to reduce 9th inning meltdowns.

I wish the fish could have had Henry Owens actually close out games ... did he even have more than 10 chances? or 10 innings for that matter.

Heath Bell's killer instinct is what puts him over the top.

Really? Thought it was his weight...

any thoughts now?

So far they've taken on a lot of risk to build what should be around a mid 80s win team. I hope they'll make more additions because if they don't I don't like the risk / rewards from these two moves.

He's the one checking in, right?

There's a live stream on MLB.com, I'm not sure if that's a live stream of MLB Network or something separate. Can anyone help me out?

My guide says Hot Stove will be on MLB Network at 3, and it will undoubtedly be live from Dallas. I expect to see Heath Bell on there at 3:30.

That's a Marlins executive. He's putting in an offer from Loria to buy the hotel so the Marlins can kick out every team and have exclusive negotioating rights with Pujols, Wilson, Buehrle, and their agents.

Think he was kidding there.

Greg Amsinger just annouced on MLB Network that the Heath Bell press conference is up next. Its 3:34pm
