Marlins interested in re-signing Dobbs

So defense aside, I'm assuming that we can both agree that Gaby's been better offensively, right?

Also, while Logan is not a good defender in LF, he at least has a real position that he can be moved to and put up at least average defense. Coghlan doesn't really have that. Yeah, he came up mostly as an infielder, but he's been regarded as a butcher there too. If you are going to play poor defense, you need a pretty awesome bat to make up for it. That's why Jorge Cantu was railed on so heavily by this board when he stopped hitting.

Coghlan faces an uphill battle in being an everyday starter. Even if he puts the injuries aside (who knows if that will happen), he needs to hit his weight to make up for the defense. That's why I'm so down on the guy.

Gaby is by far the better player at this point. Your right on that. I get what your saying with Cogs to. Hopefully he can have a productive year wherever he's at. In my eyes he's as good as gone.

Greg Dobbs..........MVP.

Last time I checked this was a topic about Greg Dobbs, not Chris Coghlan, which is what the thread has turned into. How is trying to get a thread back on-topic troll-esque?

¡Ay calmate chica!

That's Dobbsy from Harry Potter.

Dobby's a little troll...but I see what you did there.

I'd like for the Marlins to re-sign Dobbs to a one-year deal.

Don't worry too much. Most threads on Marlinsbaseball turn into something completely off topic for lengths of time like the thread that turned into a Community love fest for instance. Purplehaze you need to get your Harry Potter on. Dobby is a pimp and technically a House Elf, not a troll. He made an appearance in game threads any time MVP made a good play.

A one year deal would be great for Dobbs.

Yes, I know how it is. I've been here for three and a half years, although sometimes I've taken long hiatuses. Never really got into Harry Potter.

I'd really like for Greg Dobbs to return to his role from last year. I don't want those pesky Nats snagging him.

Glad to see someone still remembers my article :lol

Rereading that article for the first time in months, I just realized how horribly constructed it was haha. I like to think I improved a bit since then.

Right, right.

He was a pleasant surprise last year and made Wes Helms expendable even if Wes' poor play helped it along. We have been doing a good job of cockblocking the Nats, so let's keep it going.

I was right there with you Fly. I was one of the ones pushing him as our MVP, untill Stanton came in a pimp slapped my dreams down. Of course I would prefer an MvP Mike Stanton to Greg Dobbs anyway.

It's entirely anecdotal, but I was at a game in late April against the Dodgers and I saw Coghlan get up from a hard slide kind of gimpy. I immediately thought, 'I hope that isn't serious' - and that was pretty much where his offensive season began to decline.

Small sample sizes make me not want to put too much into it, but the man appears to be an .800+ OPS bat when in good health and I don't think he can stay healthy as a CF. I also happen to think that Morrison will not stay healthy in LF. I would much rather move the future (Logan) over to 1B and move the stopgap (Gabby) for some value. If Coghlan continues to disappoint, next season is a strong OF free agent crop and maybe we can even get an OF prospect for Gabby+.

I wouldnt mind bringing Posada as a bench bat

He'd be only that, a bench bat. I want a guy that can be a bench bat and a defender.

Bench of.....

Greg Dobbs

Brett Hayes

Aaron Rowand

Bryan Petersen

???

Sounds pretty solid.

??? = Donnie Murphy, my friend.

Yeah resign Dobbs and Donnie Bleepin Murphy and we're set.

So yeah...Greg Dobbs....

This was exactly my thinking. Dobbs would not only add that dependable lefty bat off the bench, but he's a good clubhouse guy who has become familiar with the organization. I'd love to see him come back.

The Nationals are now focused on improving their bench, but MLB.com's Bill Ladson says (on Twitter) that it seems as though they are unlikely to sign Greg Dobbs. Washington expressed interest in Dobbs last week.

*Tony Sparano fist pump*

Dobbs would have to be able to kick FG's in order to earn a fist pump.

Dobbs has to be one of the top bench candidates out there and I feel he's worth every penny after last year.

Marlins Focused On Re-Signing Dobbs

By Tim Dierkes [December 27, 2011 at 8:57am CST]

The Marlins' immediate priority is to re-sign utility player Greg Dobbs, reports MLB.com's Joe Frisaro. He says the team hopes to finalize a deal soon. The Nationals had also been in the mix for Dobbs, but Frisaro's colleague Bill Ladson tweeted four days ago they were unlikely to sign him.

Dobbs, 33, hit .275/.311/.389 in a career-high 439 plate appearances for the Marlins this year. He logged 755 innings at third base, also pitching in at first base and the outfield corners. A left-handed hitter, Dobbs has struggled against southpaws in his career. As a pinch-hitter, he has a career line of .259/.316/.430 in 316 plate appearances.

Frisaro also notes that the Marlins are not expected to sign any more big-ticket free agents, but they're exploring the trade market for frontline starters. He says the Marlins aren't seeking competition for the back end of the rotation, though Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald wrote recently that they're casting a wide net.

If not signing another big-ticket FA means that they aren't going to sign even a guy like Oswalt to a 1-year deal, then this team is pretty unlikely to make the playoffs IMO.
