Marlins interested in re-signing Dobbs

Featured Replies

I don't understand people crying overpayment.

This seems like a pretty standard price for a seasoned veteran coming off of a good year on the bench.

with Bonifacio starting in CF, what's our bench now?

Dobbs, Hayes, Murphy, Cousins, Coghlan

Cousins over Peterson?

Peterson, Mattison, Some jackass off the street - pretending that Dobbs straightens out our bench is kind of a joke.

Dobbs resigning certainly has to spell the end of Murphy's time on the 40 man roster

No it doesn't. Murphy could be the main right handed bat off the bench. If Murphy was a lefty, I'd maybe agree with you.

Didn't they just re-sign Murphy? I have a hard time believing they'd cast him off now after quickly signing him.

Yep, they sure did. And let's not forget Aaron Rowand has that minor league deal. He could find his way onto the big league bench at some point, depending on injuries and such.

Murphy & Rowand are like the backup bench. which is awesome because we hardly had a bench the past couple of years.

Not exactly happy about this. I wanted hik back but the money...meh;

Your sources didn't tell you that you weren't going to be happy? :(

ok honestly im sick of the whole sources sh*t already. Ok i get it. I got everyones hopes up and then crushed them. Leave me alone already. F it ill out my source so u know i wasnt messing around. Aunt Cleo. Call her for your free reading now!

Oh, no, it's a message board. That's gonna go on for a little bit longer, then die out, then in September it'll be brought back up.

But hey, you won an award! :D

That pretty much makes no sense. He can play 6 positions and has played 5 of them in the majors. He is right handed whereas Dobbs is left handed and it is not like our bench is any good.

I was kidding. I enjoy it :)

I was thinking more along the lines of a roster spot, but it doesn't matter because they DFA'd Villanueva to make room for Dobbs

Just reading through some of this thread, I'm not sure why some of you are under the impression that Dobbs had a really "solid year". He was really valuable for the first two months of the season, when 3B was a gaping hole and he put up an .850 OPS. But he was basically awful the rest of the way when his BABIP regressed (It was .414 for those first two months, compared to a .304 career BABIP). He predictably regressed and his ISO dropped about 30 points compared to his career line as well.

He was bad defensively as well, but this isn't as much of a concern because he won't be expected to start 84 games at 3B again. I don't totally hate the signing, but I think there's a decent possibility he gives us a .650 OPS over 200 PA next year. And he certainly won't be making up for it in defense.

That's because he won't be starting so often. You said it yourself [about making a lot less starts]. He was great off the bench, if I remember correctly.
