PurpleHaze
If not signing another big-ticket FA means that they aren't going to sign even a guy like Oswalt to a 1-year deal, then this team is pretty unlikely to make the playoffs IMO. I don't think it necessarily means they won't get Oswalt. I think it means no Cespedes or, for those who still believe, no Fielder. They can explore the SP trade market while still pursuing Oswalt. This is just speculation on my part, though.
Erick
I think it just means no Fielder. Oswalt is not a "big free agent."

They made 3 big signings and now it is time to make the news with trades. But not til after the new year starts. Frisaro pointed out not very long ago that they are still looking for another front line LHP. I think he's probably right and that's high on their list. The only way I see Oswalt coming here is if every other avenue for a leftie fails and he is still on the market.

Too bad they're not going to get one of those. ...unless if Hanley Ramirez demands a trade or something and they give him to SF for Bumgarner. But seriously, it's very unlikely. We needed it for the bench. We overpaid a little but he's a valuable piece so I'll take it.

Admin
Helms was paid 1mil. Dobbs should be getting 5mil Or maybe Helms should have been paid zero. Didn't the Marlins offer him an extension part way through his really sh*tty 2010 season? He seemed more like a spring training invite at the time. floridafly
I don't think Dobbs is getting overpaid at all. I'm actually surprised it wasn't $2MM/yr. He performed great last year.
SilverBullet
I don't think we overpaid but if anyone does... bottom line, Dobbs himself earned the chance to be overpaid. Guy had a strong 2011. The way some contracts are given these days all over baseball, I don't mind Dobbs taking a nice paycheck to the bank.
AeroFishOne
1.5 is a bargain if he can provide what he did last year. MVP is back.

legacyofCangelosi
This signing really means the only thing left for the team to focus on is one more starting pitcher. We're pretty much set everywhere else.
