December 17, 201114 yr The Reds have acquired Mat Latos from the Padres, tweets Ken Rosenthal, and Yonder Alonso is among the players headed to the Padres in exchange.
December 17, 201114 yr Players going to SD: Yonder Alonso, Brad Boxberger, Yasmani Grandal and Edinson Volquez.
December 17, 201114 yr Hell of a deal for San Diego. That's pretty much highway robbery taking Volquez (who I think will bounce back), Grandal, and Alonso.
December 17, 201114 yr Reds needed a top SP but Pads get their 1B and catcher for several years and even a decent pen prospect. If Volquez bounces back, even better. on the plus side for the Marlins, that's one less team in the running for Gio now.
December 17, 201114 yr That's a great deal for San Diego. I agree. And I don't even think Volquez is that good. The other peices are really, really good, though. I also think it was a good trade for the Reds, too. Matt Latos is a great pitcher.
December 17, 201114 yr Good deal. I told you guys latos could be traded. Anyone had the ability to say he COULD be traded. Shoot, if they wanted, the Marlins COULD trade Stanton. WOULD it happen? It better not. Anyways, San Diego wins this one, big time. Latos will decline a little bit in the Central, and I see Volquez doing a lot better in San Diego. Padres get some more offense, as well. Don't expect them to contend just yet.
December 17, 201114 yr Wow...what a steal for San Diego...in my opinion, the Reds gave up too much...i wouldve kept Grandal and tried to throw two other B level prospects there
December 17, 201114 yr Where is Alonso gonna play? SD also has Rizzo who is 3 years younger? Quite a few Miami/South FL guys moving. Latos, Alonso, Grandal.
December 18, 201114 yr Teams are already asking about Anthony Rizzo. Thoughts? Maybe the Marlins go for it?
December 18, 201114 yr Excellent trade for SD. Guess I have a new team to follow now with Mat going to CIN.
December 18, 201114 yr i laugh at how keith law almost ALWAYS has a different take on every trade or FA signing...he'd make the absolute worst GM on the planet if he had that spot as he'd never sign a single recognizable name. Every contract signed is "overpriced". Well that's what FA is, you go to the highest bidder usually! Meaning you're going to overpay to get what you want! On top of that the guy usually disagrees with what everyone else says in regards to trades...for instance most people from what I've seen have said the Padres got a steal of a deal here...Law says it was a sensible quality for quantity deal. lulz Is it sad that I get my chuckles from reading "Klaw's" blogs about the baseball offseason? Methinks it is...
