Opening Day Lottery

Featured Replies

There was some good news for the applicants who were not selected for opening night tickets. They will receive up to a $10 per ticket discount on tickets to every game during the team's first official homestand against the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs.

I was very sad to see that I got rejected. I don't to spend $540 on 2 10 games plan. I live in New York! I dont want to have to worry about selling off the extra tickets.

I'm going to this game!!!

I'm liking my chances.

granted I'm going to the game no matter what, would be nice to save a few sheckles though

A total of 87,253 fans registered for the roughly 1,000 available tickets in lottery for opening night at #Marlins Park

A little late but relevant to this thread. That's a crazy amount of "fans" registering. (Probably more than a few people in it for the cash).

I think it's dumb that the Marlins allowed season ticket holders to double dip (and consequently put the tickets on Stub Hub at a huge mark-up) instead of opening them up for more individual sales.

My Marlins' ticket salesperson actually used it as a sales pitch, and that's exactly why they did it. It gave people a bigger incentive to buy even a 10 or 20 game ticket plan, you could pay for half the plan simply by selling extra opening day seats... Pretty smart, actually.

It was more than just Opening Day. It was also the Yankees games. And we were able to get more tickets for any of the other games before they go on sale. A good example because of their draw, the Red Sox tickets. Those that did get some type of package should get some extra benefits thrown in. It's been for a very long time Opening Night was going to be a "Big Ticket" item here. Heck, every Opening Day has been a good draw. The new pond just seriously expanded that draw, partly because of the limited seating. Those that don't live here or have done nothing about it up til now really have no right to complain. A blind person could see something like this coming. Ya snooze, ya lose. Man up, buy them from StubHub. Or sit at home watching the festivities on TV and complain about it not being fair.

It's Hypebeast's like yourself that make it that much more difficult for other fans to enjoy Opening Day and other events. The fact that season ticket salesman were offering it as a perk and pitch to sell on the secondary market is sickening knowing full well there are fans that would have loved to gone, and possibly have enjoyed it alot more.

Members like Admin and CanesCop, who are out of town and would have made a special effort to be there yet can not reasonably shell out for even a 10 game ticket pack they will never be able to use just to attend opening day. Or even members like Rab (I assume) or myself who can attend 4 or 5 of the 10 game pack but can't use all 10.

I would have picked up a 10 game season ticket pack but the price for two seats ($500) was a bit out of my budget and it still didn't guarentee parking (which by the way it's bulls*** if reported correctly, that the garages are only for season ticket holders and VIPS with parking passes). As a college student it's a privledge not a right to go to a baseball game but it still should have been handled differently.

I'll go to Stub Hub, I'll pay the inflated opening day price, and I'll still go to 50 f***ing games this year regardless of season ticket holder shenanigans because the assholes who bought up the season ticket plans just to resell the tickets are going to be stuck getting whatever they can to those Tuesday night games.

I'm sure 8000 of those 87,000 people would have killed to see THEIR team play on April 4th, but Hypebeast's like the rest of the world tend to mess it up for everyone.

And before you go off on a diatribe preaching about how I'm a disrepectful little twerp who isn't a real fan because I don't have season tickets....

I don't give a sh*t what you have to say at this point.

I snoozed, you'll lose. Man up, and realize I'm not gonna listen to you. Or sit at home reading my post over and over on your computer and complain about it not being fair I'm still not listening.

Thanks for the shout out Piazza. I would kill to get a 10 game pack or more but of course being deeply rooted here in NC makes it near impossible to come down as much as I would like especially at my salary. I knew it was damn near impossible to get a ticket to this game and I figured some one else could have a better chance and opportunity to attend but damn I'd love to be there.

Season ticket holders are a select group that can afford to throw down the money on the luxuries. It's another one of those relationships between the rich and the poor. Those that can afford get the perks but the little man gets very little. Season tickets should not be used as a indicator of fanship. A pay-as-you-go fan is no less a fan than any season ticket holder and shouldn't be treated as a Lower class citizen. That's the nature of the business though and nothing will change it, much like the class battle in the US.

The parking situation makes it difficult for out of town fans to make their way to the park. Where I'm from, the idea of parking on some one elses front yard is beyonf strange, even though they dont mind when you pay them. Also, those unfamiliary with the area, may have trouble trying to get a hang of the transportation system.

A metro mover or two to the stadium sounds like a good idea from what I have seen and researched about the area or hopefully more land is purchased for addition parking facilities.

This wouldn't be your season ticket holder elitism shining through again, would it? Of course not...

I think some people will bite at the upper deck seats in the $100-150 range, but I'm guessing that some of those lower bowl seats will have to come down a lot. I don't think there will be enough takers at $300+ per seat.

I'm not biting until it reaches $50 for upper deck

I bet that will happen. When the prices for those lower deck seats start crashing back down to earth, the upper deck prices will follow.

I doubt it will go that low...that's the regular price for upper deck for opening day, at least for the extra tickets I got.

Hypebeast? LOL I got the two extra tickets because a friend wanted to go with his son and I sold them to him at face value. Actually, I'm also doing about the same thing for the BoSox series. Friendships can carry some weight. I also know I'm far from being the only one to do this type thing. Maybe you should know what you are talking about before you just start insulting someone.

In any case, and for those that evidently have few friends, we have known for 2 years that this was going to be a hard ticket to get. And we knew 2 years ago that after the intial surge of full season ticket sales some type of "mini plans" were going to be offered. Someone saying they couldn't save $500 in 2 years time just dosen't seem likely. Maybe they had other "entertainment priorities" or they kept putting it off and now want to blame everyone and everything else for their mistake. Reminds me of a sign I have in my shop. "Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

But hey, whine away.

Not happening. 50 bucks will get you standing room only. Lower Level seats will come down a bit. Cheapest for upper deck IMO will be 80.

Hypebeast?

:lol

WTF is that supposed to be?

And why does the thread title still include the word "raffle" considering that it was never anything other than a straight lottery?

still no sign of a yay or nay email for me.

 @ hypebeast... I have to use that on someone soon

Still no e-mail saying I was rejected :o

nothing yet on my end either :o

I haven't gotten an email yet either.

Weird.
