May 3, 201214 yr I feel bad for the fans who got authentic Heath Bell game jerseys. I hope they can get a refund If they have the receipt, I don't see why not, unless it says "no refund."
May 3, 201214 yr I can finally go back to thinking my Stanton jersey is good luck! For a while there, I thought I had spent $150 on a jersey that caused Stanton to hit like sh*t. Every time I wore it, we lost the game. I was nervous about wearing it tonight, but I watched the game at a bar and wanted to represent. Rubbed his name, called the home run, and he delivered. I CAN FINALLY START WEARING IT AGAIN!! I dusted my orange Stanton jersey off tonite - I stopped wearing it for a while
May 3, 201214 yr Once Petersen misplayed that ball (he should have let the ball drop, hold the hit to a single), I felt like Bell/Marlins lost confidence and once that happened it all went down hill. We are lucky Chisek is pitching lights out and it looks like Stanton may be finally feeling it again. But the Marlins offensively sucked again(what's new), 10 walks in a game should mean at least 4 runs.
May 3, 201214 yr It's okay guys.. we only have to worry about Heath Bell for 2 more years after this.
May 3, 201214 yr If this team gets going swinging the bats, and has the same patience they had tonight, we could expect 6-8 runs a game, perhaps. 10 walks? If we take advantage of just 4 of those, we would have won 6-0. [Yes, 6-0. Bell wouldn't have come in.]
May 3, 201214 yr Nice to win again, but once again, not a win to be too happy about. Marlins really showed they improved their patience at the plate as they were able to draw 10 walks (7 from Zito), but the bats were silent yet again as they got just 5 hits. And more importantly, they failed yet again with RISP going 0 for 8. The team's season BA with RISP is now under .200. If not for a bit of fortune on the bobbled double play ball that led to the first run and the nasty spin on the ground ball to second which led to the second run-the Marlins would have been shutout (game would have ended in the bottom of the 9th, theoretically). This is pretty much where my thought process lies too. Awesome to win the game, but we were lucky.
May 3, 201214 yr Reyes .216 Boni .237 Hanley .209 Kearns .174 Gaby .200 Buck .190 All kinds of bad. and yeah despite 10 walks they were 0-8 with RISP tonight.
May 3, 201214 yr Author Reyes .216 Boni .237 Hanley .209 Kearns .174 Gaby .200 Buck .190 all kinds of bad. Yup, but with the way our starting pitching is going, we just need half of those guys to come around for us to start winning more.
May 3, 201214 yr I was a big Cishek fan last year and he's currently exceeding my expectations as he's now basically dominating lefties, as well. It's amazing how he's able to keep most of his pitches down in the zone. Please...please...let him close. Honestly, anyone but Bell right now. Cishek, closer by committee, I don't care.
May 3, 201214 yr Author Bell said he apologized to Zambrano, Big Z told him no worries. -Cappozi Zambrano seems like a completely different person here. Glad to see his anger issues are (apparently) behind him for now.

You told me before the season that Cishek wouldn't repeat and that $27MM was a wise investment for a "proven closer." I liked Cishek. You can go back to comments from the very beginning last season when he had a small sample size of innings...I was saying the same thing. I didn't expect him to repeat what he did last year because he had a dominant year and I was unsure that he'd be anything other than average against left-handed hitters. His minor league track record didn't indicate signs of dominance so there was cause for concern. And while I had no problem with the Heath Bell deal, I'm certain I never called the deal a "wise investment" as I've always said that closers are incredibly overvalued. I did think Bell would bring more stability to the bullpen, though. I don't think anyone could have predicted exactly this. As of right now, Heath Bell is the absolute worst reliever in baseball this year. I mean, c'mon.

Of course nobody could predict Bell struggling on this scale, but it's a bit ironic to see you bashing the guy so heavily aftered you so vehemently defended the signing (or at least tried to debate those criticizing it).

Back when we signed him, he wasn't THIS bad; he was actually good and rather consistent at being good. Now that he's here, he's been terrible. I'm "bashing" him because he sucks now. I don't even think that's bashing; it's just the truth. It's not as if I'm one of the people on here constantly calling him a fatass or something. Players regress. Sorry that I couldn't predict him becoming Matt Capps 2.0 so quickly.

May 3, 201214 yr At least they're learning. Can you imagine them just leaving Bell out there to rot tonight like they've done earlier because he's "the guy?" A win that doesn't feel good is better than a loss where I feel like throwing the remote against the wall and shattering it.
May 3, 201214 yr If I remember correctly, my argument for the signing wasn't even me calling it good per say. My points were: 1) The Marlins are just spending money that they apparently have to spend so I, as a fan, do not care. 2) The Marlins are just doing what most teams in the big leagues do. It's not as if I came on here and said "yessss, best signing ever! 27 million for 60 innings per year, this is awesome!" I never thought this was a great signing. I thought it was a signing that could potentially help us get a bit better and not make us worse. Now that it seems like we're worse for doing it, I'm just reacting as a fan would. I mean, honestly, I was one of the ones who wasn't even extremely excited about the offseason. I didn't even "like" the Buehrle signing. Edit: I also said that Bell wasn't a product of Petco because stats supported that he wasn't a product of Petco and that was one of the reasons why the signing was questioned.

And those are poor reasons to defend the signing. You said that you had "no problem with paying for an elite reliever." I think that almost categorically that's a bad move because the margin of error for a closer is especially fine given their volatility. There are many cases of relievers (particularly closers) having several "consistent" seasons of being lights out and then suddenly falling off of a cliff. It's just not something that I would ever consider a smart baseball move and that's not just speaking in hindsight.
