July 9, 201213 yr With the sigining deadline approaching, does anyone have word on how the Marlins are doing with their negotiations for their top two picks?
July 12, 201213 yr No updates on Heaney? Not that I've seen. Heaney sure put on a hell of a show if he doesn't sign. Looked happy to be picked.
July 12, 201213 yr Jim Callis @jimcallisBA Source tells me #Marlins have informed 1st-rder Andrew Heaney they won't sign him. Have yet to offer close to $2.8 mil pick value. #mlbdraft
July 12, 201213 yr didn't the rules change this year to make it easier to sign? also do we get 2 first rounder snext year or is that rule over with now too, because if that is the case beinfest needs to go.
July 12, 201213 yr Baseball America's Jim Callis reports that the Marlins will not sign first-round pick Andrew Heaney. Heaney, a lefty out of Oklahoma State, was selected ninth overall in last month's Amateur Draft. But the Fish didn't offer anything close to the $2.8 million recommended bonus for that slot, according to Callis. It sounds like bad planning on the part of Marlins management. They've spent big money on other parts of their draft class. Source: Jim Callis on Twitter
July 12, 201213 yr And we now get two first rounders next season, with a guaranteed 9th overall pick again. I liked Heaney though . Extremely surprised the Marlins drafted a guy they weren't sure they could sign. Seems a bit out of their usual comfort zone.
July 12, 201213 yr @Kevin_Goldstein: Marlins are not ripping off Heaney. Slot for that pick last year was under $2m. Baez signed for $2.625. Take that for what its worth.
July 12, 201213 yr Despite failures and a few successes the Marlins have always signed their #1 pick! This is surprising to say the least, any word on their 2nd round pick?
