Youkilis checked in on

Featured Replies

In one respect, Kevin Youkilis hit free agency at the wrong time: He had a .745 OPS during the 2012 season, the lowest mark of his career.

Then again, he’s entering the market at a time when a number of general managers are unsatisfied with their production at one corner infield position or another. And Youkilis’ improved play following the trade from Boston to Chicago — a respectable .771 OPS in 80 games with the White Sox — supports the notion that he mostly needed a change of scenery, away from Bobby Valentine.

The Indians, Phillies and Dodgers are looking to upgrade their production at third base and have shown preliminary interest in Youkilis, according to major-league sources. The Mariners and Marlins — the majors’ two worst teams this year in first-base production — have checked in on Youkilis, as well.

Youkilis, 33, was an everyday first baseman for the Red Sox from 2006 through 2010, until moving to third when Adrian Gonzalez arrived before the 2011 season. His ability to play either position is valuable in the marketplace, especially considering there is little free-agent depth at first base after Adam LaRoche.

A healthy LoMo should be able to provide at least that kind of production at 1st.

3rd base on the other hand... well, we need help one way or another. I think right now it's between Cox, Kouzmanoff (I'd love to see him finally realize his offensive potential, his D is already solid), and Boni if we find a suitable replacement at 2nd base.

I actually favor that last one.. we could find a stopgag at 2nd such as Orlando Hudson who could possibly be had for just a spring training invite at this point in his career. Or Freddy Sanchez who is coming off of back surgery. Bat them 8th and take solace in their defense and veteran presence outweighing offense.

please sign him for 3rd base. he would be the perfect 2 year stop gap. i wanted him last year when he was on the block.

He has no offensive potential.

He also doesn't have solid D. His range factor and fielding percentage are both usually at or below league average. One year, yeah, he has a fielding percentage of .990, but his range factor was terrible. Easier to have a higher fielding percentage if you get to less balls.

Well, the power has always been there. It's just a matter of getting on base at a clip higher than .300. And I maintain that his D is solid. Certainly better than what we've had at 3rd base for a while. The other Kevin offers a bit more upside, but his primary value is going to lie with an American league team needing a 1st baseman (Gold Glover I might add) who can also DH when necessary. I'm predicting Billy Beane gets his Greek God of Walks this offseason. Why? Because he gets on base.

All of this makes you think though... what if we didn't trade Matty D for the "season saver" Carlos Lee?

Well, in that case, then yes, he does have solid D relative to what we've been putting there since ... what, 2007 with Miggy? Since then it's been Cantu, Helms, Bonifacio, Murphy, etc ...

Kouzmanoff does not hit, he "makes up" for it by not fielding. On the plus side, he has a charming ethnic name that Tommy can mangle.

There's so little news on the Marlins nowadays. I wonder if they're just keeping things hush or if they're really not doing sh*t..

Youk probably can't wait to come to Miami now, won't have to worry about a September slump to miss the post season for a third year in a row

Eerie.

I told you guys. I wouldn't put it past Loria to sell Stanton too. That douchebag has destroyed this team. This is the mother of all fire sales. I doubt we will recognize anyone on the field for opening day 2013. We now have the best ballpark in AAA baseball.

Loria is a fat f***. He has now segmented himself as the worst owner in ALL of baseball history. If he could find a way to sell the fans, or sell oxygen to the crowd, he would. This guy will do anything for a nickle.

Don't you have a pitbull to run from?

Bob Nightengale tweeted that the marlins have made clear that virtually everyone is available on trade market.

Welp

So Loria, who do you feel like trading this season...
